Need a small bit of help.
« on: 2024-05-16 00:58:30 »
I'm a hobbyist Unreal Engine engineer. Mostly the work I have done is in games like MechWarrior 5 and I had a hand with development with Yooka-Laylee" "which was a Unity game" Also had reverse engineer experience with a game called UCGO "Universal Century Gundam Online which I reverse engineered the 3d file format, and data files. So I'm no stranger to videogame engineering. That being said, lately I expressed interest in Final Fantasy 7 which is one of my original all time fav games. To be blunt I am thinking about re-engineering FF7 in UE5. Yes I know this sounds redundant but its mostly for my enjoyment and I figure ill learn a few more things along the way.

Specifically what I need help with "and I am sure I can procure this information myself but I'm being lazy" is that I just need to know what tools can extract data from FF7 such as 3d models, animations, camera angles, music, sounds, maybe battle damage/time algorithms, and textures. "I just found out where to find all this data which I'm surprised it's so detailed. I technically have everything I need to remake the game. I guess now it's a put up or shut up type of ordeal. I'll start working on the game and make and post up my progress every now and then. If I can get momentum going I may even take a crack at ff8 but no promises".

That's an ambitious and exciting project! As someone experienced with Unreal Engine and reverse engineering, tackling FF7 sounds like a great way to deepen your skills.

Steps Moving Forward:
Extract the Data: Use the above tools to get the assets and data you need from FF7.
Import to UE5: Start importing the extracted assets into Unreal Engine 5. This will involve converting formats as necessary and setting up the game environment.
Re-create Systems: Re-engineer the battle system, animations, and camera angles using Unreal Engine’s scripting and blueprinting tools.
If you run into any specific challenges or need further advice on the technical aspects, feel free to ask! It sounds like you're about to embark on a really rewarding journey with this project.
