I uploaded the files to a few filehostingsites.
Once finished, I will upload it to MediaFire to there won't be any need to download a torrent with potentials viruses :)
Downloading and seeding indefinitely at 100Mbit/s.

Uhhh no offence, but why are people still using the torrent, and mirroring the uncompressed version?

To reiterate, here is a single link, with PNGs that are of superior size, and same quality: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NBKYFPYQ

yarLson requested these, not sure why he hasn't edited the first post yet, he replied to my PM.

Euh Timber ... I wasn't interrested by your compression ... because I have big HDDs ... but euh I wasn't now I am XD
Really the result is the same ! If we can gain place without lose quality so why not ?! Thanks for your helps !

Thanks :) It took me like 15 hours to compress these, even with a Core i7 cpu running near max.
And even if you have a big hdd, having smaller files should reduce hdd load time too!

I would also love an improved search, the current one is horrid.

Also other problems:
When I send a PM now, it doesn't show up in 'sent messages'.
At the bottom of the main index it says "Most Online Today: 2. Most Online Ever: 2 (May 08, 2006, 08:00:28 PM)" lol

Hi Kranmer,

Thanks for your input, I did not realise some of the images were 24bit, because in my testing they were 32bit! But:

- It IS lossless, the tools only use 24bit on images that benefit from it, and 32bit for those that don't.
- There are no 24bit png error from Aalis driver when using these, and no performance hit that I can see, so that problem must be a thing of the past.

To further ease concerns, here is your example pic, in-game, both uncompressed and compressed (they are exactly the same):

And here is the finished package, total at 991mb: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NBKYFPYQ :)

Hi moothead, I suggest you don't worry about it, as I'm currently compressing the PNGs for yarLson, and should have them uploaded within 24h.

Compression is still going, but it's already more than 250mb lighter :)

So... can I have the torrent then? :)
You don't need a paid megaupload account, like kranmer said you can just split it into 2 files.

Just use MegaUpload.com, I use it to host all the time, files can be up to 1GB

I agree that having idle animation would be nice, but probably a bit too hard / time consuming.

Also, if you guys can't get his blinking working, I for one wouldn't really care :P
I mean, I didn't even know Cloud could blink until that bridge in Corel, it's barely noticeable.

Hell, breathing in video games, unless it's done very well, usually looks creepy.

It looks fine in FFIX.
I think being completely motionless is FAR more creepy!

Is this for PC and if it is, where do you put the files?

Yes it is, and it is an installer.

Note: Some of the scenes cause glitch errors due to palette changes. I have included the files anyways for those that wish to use them. If you want to get rid of the errors just delete the PNG that has the 15 in it. IE tin_1_15_00.png

I'm not really sure what this means. Do some scenes not display correctly?
Or is it just an annoying error message?

what's in v0.1 and the current file size is 388mb so by the time I finish the other 3 new parts it will probably be over 500mb. Just a heads up.

Been doing some research into lossless PNG compression, and I get the best results from PNG Monster: http://www.vbgore.com/PNG_Monster
Not only will it reduce the files sizes, but this should result in making them load slightly faster in-game too.

But do note that it takes a LONG time to compress, but at least you only have to do it once :)

Looks great NCS :D
Question: Does this update the world map Cloud model too? That would be sweet!

87
I'm totally guessing here but:

Couldn't you just put the textures in modpath? Since it doesn't use the lgp?

88
This has every savegame location you could possibly want.

I use this also, and it's great, although.... the saves are in spanish.
I find myself restarting several times from picking the wrong ones lol. :(

89
Maybe it's a problem with Aali's 0.7.8b driver ?

I'm pretty sure that is exactly the problem, modpath didn't work correctly with battle textures in older versions if I remember correctly.
Looks like you may just have to wait it out for Aali's next version.

The best PS3 controller driver is motioninjoy: http://www.motioninjoy.com/
And I assure you it won't 'brake' your controller LOL

Just tried some of these out - very nice work, looks incredible.

Are you planning to texture the world map too, to go with your battle scenes?
I can only imagine how good it would look...  :-o

93
Haha just read you reply, I guess it's not an issue then!
Your description just says 'external textures' so naturally I assumed it meant all of them. :P

True, but I would still want it disabled, just to avoid any compression artifacts being added to your beautiful scenes :P

Did you try the pngcrush I showed? It really lowers the size by an impressive % I think.

95
Hi Aali,

Would you be able to possibly add a feature to disable the texture compression cache for field scenes?
Reasons for this being:

- Caching all of the field scenes would take up a whole heap of HDD space.
- Most field scenes are only viewed once in a playthrough, and the game would still delay because the cache hasn't been created yet.
- Any delay isn't really noticeable, unlike the battle/menu stuttering.
- To avoid any quality loss as a result of the compression.

Thanks for listening :)

Well FFXI, FFXIII, and FFXIV are all over 8GB, to give you some obvious examples, as well as almost all of my PS3 games that I run from HDD.

You are right about the cache though :P That would really bump up the size.
Then again maybe cache isn't really needed for the field scenes, and aali could disable it for those?

Also like sl said, wouldn't the lack of transparency make jpegs pretty limited?

I don't think comparing it to lossless videos is really fair, since I imagine the file sizes would be even bigger, and for such brief sequences in the game.
But the field scenes are the primary visual in the game, totally worth it. :D

I for one, prefer having the highest quality.
Sure it's big, but so are modern video games.

Here is a solution that I have tested: http://www.freemancontingent.ie/archives/623

It took your 'md1stin' from 9.16mb to 7.86mb using the brute method, with no quality loss.
To do a batch you just have to select multiple files.

I recommend you use it on the Team Avalanche stuff too. :)

98
That is aalis domain.  He has already fixed the white flashes etc.

YESSS! :D
Those flashes were the worst part of the new battle interface.

99
I like what I see.  Maybe simple isn't always better... choice is :P

Right you are  :D

Felix does seem to be very gifted with with texture and graphic design, you guys teaming up can only be a good thing I think.

This new battle interface will show off all of his new battle scene textures too :D

Great work felix :D Looks sooo good.

For the rooftop, my only criticism is that the windows could look more... window-y.

For the elevator skybox, maybe a picture of Midgar could help?
