Troubleshooting / Internal Editor
« on: 2002-07-30 11:11:56 »
How cute... *chuckles at the 'Ive tried' section*

Ahem *coughz* anyway... I'll try to find this Internal Editor, and use it.

( I'm usually pretty fast at getting to know, and understand how Editors work )

Once I've got my grubby lil' hands on it, and used it, I'll tell ya if you can rename weapons an' such.

The link works now, so no point in uploading the patch, unless you'd like to make a mirror of the file?

Well, thank you for wanting to help, and hey, you can use the Brinkster site I gave you; to put up your avatar or whatever you want to do with it.(This site doesn't have scripts which block direct links, so it's perfect for avatars)

General Discussion / Upload? Why not CD-ROM?
« on: 2002-07-28 10:27:46 »
OR! Even better than downloading one hell of a BIG file, try actually following what I said on my previous post, it'll save you ALOT of time.

I very much doubt that all of your FF7 discs have a corrupt flevel.lgp file, unless you're like, the most unlucky person alive.

General Discussion / Gren Darkwolf?

Who's that Gren Darkwolf guy? He looks like Rufus; his hair looks the same, and so does the shape of his body.

General Discussion / flevel.lgp
« on: 2002-07-27 15:27:49 »
flevel.lgp is the biggest file on FF7, something like 120MB, so I can't send it to you, the only thing I can think of, is to copy it clean from any of the 4 CDs *They all contain that file* Just copy:

CDROM:\ff7\field\flevel.lgp

to

HARDDRIVE:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\data\field

And see if it works, if not, just put in the next CD till it does.

IF THAT doesn't work, try re-installing FF7 with the minimum option.

Hope it works. :)

General Discussion / Animations
« on: 2002-07-27 14:27:04 »
I think the pouncing style animation shows up when you get the Choco/Mog Summon Materia. (The Chocobo's on the ranch dance, and also pounce)

And, I think the Seph's hair does stand on end like that, when he's entering the battle. (He flys down, and his hair glides down also)

So the animations are in the game, it's just that you're not observant enough to spot them. :P

Anyway, I want to ask something that's un-related to this topic, do you know where the Independant Materia (I can't remember the name of it) on the side of the crater is? (When you're climbing up it)

If you do, could you please tell me, it's the only Materia in the game that I have never picked up, in all of the times I have completed it.

Archive / Forum's Time
« on: 2002-07-27 14:14:53 »
I think Qhimm's Forum is cool, I've found out many things that I didn't know before. (Like the Windows XP patch for FF7 and so on)

I haven't found anything wrong with it just yet, except for the times that the forum sets, it's one hour behind the actual time, and what I was thinking, is that maybe Qhimm didn't include UK's daylight saving?

Standard time to Daylight Saving   LAST SUNDAY OF MARCH

Daylight Saving to Standard time   LAST SUNDAY OF OCTOBER

For example:

00:00 to 01:00 LAST SUNDAY OF MARCH

01:00 to 00:00 LAST SUNDAY OF OCTOBER

But other than that, this is great! :)

« on: 2002-07-27 13:50:16 »
Hey Agent0042, I've got an OLD Angelfire site that you could upload the file too, I'll send you a PM with the username and password.

(Note: You can't make a direct link to any downloadable file on Angelfire, so if you could please tell me where you've uploaded the file, I'll quickly make a HTML file along with it)

- PS: We could post the URL of the 1.3a patch, here afterwards.

-Thanx-

Troubleshooting / FF7 MP3's
« on: 2002-07-27 13:18:08 »
Wouldn't we all rather that they used MP3s instead of Midis? The only problem with that is, is that it would be too big to put on 4 discs, and they didn't have MP3s in 1996 so they couldn't of anyway. :P

Archive / Windows XP and FF7 (Deja vu, non?)
« on: 2002-07-27 13:11:11 »
It doesn't matter if you have got the patch or not, the Chocobo race WON'T work on Windows XP, but I have found a solution to this problem: look at my post on 'Frequently Asked Questions' then 'Chocobo races working under Windows XP'.

It explains how to get FF7 working with Windows 2000/XP, but if that doesn't work, try downloading this patch:

http://www.qhimm.com/ff7_chocobo_patch.zip

All you have to do is unzip this to your FF7 folder, and double-click the patch's exe.

I hope you can understand my English, since you said that you don't seem to be too great at it. :)

- PS: The French version of the 1.02 NVidia patch, is located here:

http://www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/gss/legacy/ff7/ff7_tnt.zip

It's pretty big, since it does have the French version of the patch, along with a few more diffrent languages.

I have just downloaded this old 'Whistler Application Compatibility Pack' because someone said it'd make FF7 work on Windows 2000, and so it should on Windows XP *Which I have* and it DID! I can now play ALL of the mini-games without any glitches, or crashes, and I've played if for a while now, so I think it's pretty reliable.

Here's the step-by-step solution (Taken from http://www.ntcompatible.com/f.shtml ):

Quote
1) It works with the "Secret" compatibility update from Microsoft! Here's how you can make it work:

1) Download and install this file:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/compatibility/act.exe

2) Run AppFix.exe, located in the applications subdirectory in the ACT install folder.

3) Play FF7!

And just to make sure, go on your Start-bar, Programs, Application Compatibility Toolkit, then AppCompat, this should come up with a Window with the title 'Application Compatibility'

All you have to do from here on, is select your 'FF7.exe' and select 'Windows 98' check the box 'Use pre-Windows 2000 Temp path' then check the box 'Make the above check box settings permanent' and click 'OK'

This should now start FF7, so be sure you have one of the discs in the CD-ROM drive before you perform all of this.

Please let me know if this works for anyone else other than me.

-Good Luck-  :)

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Oops!
« on: 2002-07-27 12:16:49 »
Ohh, sorry, there I go, blabbing off about WinRAR being able to compress/decompress .LZS files *Next time I'll not drink as much Vodka & Coke before typing up a post to help someone, lol* No, it can't handle the LZS format, I tried looking for one too, but nothing at all.

There maybe a way that LZS files can be decompressed with WinRAR, by copying the files to your HD, and changing the file-type to a known compressed file format (Like LZH, which I did get mixed up with LZS for some reason) but I highly doubt that it'd work, you can give it a shot, you never know till you try, but I agree with Seph: I do think you're better off using one of Qhimm's programs.

Anyway, sorry again about the 'Trés faux' information I gave you *I just realised my mistake after the internet was turned off last night*

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Playstation LZS files?
« on: 2002-07-26 21:06:58 »
Yeah, WinRAR decompresses LZS files (At least mine does), it does alot of file formats, but I don't know about Playstation files, and what's this about using command-line? All you have to do once you've installed WinRAR is just double-click the compressed file, and it'll open it just like a folder, then you do what you want from there onwards.

You can try decompressing Playstation .LZS files, but it maynot be a compressed file, it might be just a pure data file that the game uses, hence, not all file types from a Playstation game complies with the standard Personal Computer version.

14
Hey, I've used LZS before, from unzipping FKiss Doll files, hence, I know a program which does compress, and decompress those files, yup, that's right, it does exist! Dun dun dern! *coughs* well anyway, here's the link:

http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar300.exe

After installing that, you'll need a crack for it to work longer than it's evaluation duration, which is easy to find at:

http://www.cracks.am

(Watch out for the annoying porn pop-ups)

All you have to do is search for winrar v3.00, or whatever version you have downloaded. (Should be v3.00, as I saw it there just not)

Mmm, I smell FOOWD downstairs, dinner time!

Your comp' obviously doesn't like playing movies, there's only a few things that I can think of that MAY solve the problem, or at least prevent the problem from happening.

Try putting in the FF7 install disc, and wait for the setup to appear, when it has, click on 'Install Movie Player' or go directly to the file:

CDROM:\dxmedia\redist\dxmedia.exe

If that doesn't work, or you have already installed the DirectShow drivers, try downloading this patch:

http://ftp.eidos.com/pub/patches/final_fantasy7/ff7betap1.exe

Try using just plain ol' software mode instead of hardware, for the video.

If no luck what-so-ever with any of the above^ (Use this as a LAST RESORT)

(This was taken from http://www.eidosinteractive.com/support/faqinfo.html?fqid=62&gmid=44 )

Another solution is copy all the movies from the CD onto the hard drive. the movies for the game are located on each game disk 1, 2, and 3 in the \ff7\movies directory. This will not put more than the 500M or so of movie data on your HD.

Once you have copied the movies to the hard disk run regedit and find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII

You will find the line that says:

"MoviePath"="d:\FF7\Movies\"

Click on the key "MoviePath" and click on Edit on the Menu bar at the top of the Window. Click on Modify. Enter the new path:

"MoviePath"="c:\windows\desktop\Movies\"(or which ever path to which you saved the movies.)

When you change disks, will will need to copy the movies on the new disk to the hard drive in the same directory. It is safe to delete the movies as you will not return to the previous disk

I hope at least one of these helps you out.

Troubleshooting / Windows XP Midi
« on: 2002-07-26 18:01:54 »
I've got the midi working on XP just fine, it maybe they you haven't got the latest drivers for your sound-card, or you're using the wrong settings on FF7 config.

Try using, if you have got them:

-Midi Driver-
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth

-Midi Data-
General Midi

If that doesn't work, try using 'Windows Update' (located usually on the Start-bar) And scan for any driver updates, or any compatibility updates.

Sorry I can't help you that much, but I don't really know what Sound-card you've got, or anything really.

-Good Luck-

Archive / FF7 Win XP Patch 1.3a
« on: 2002-07-26 16:07:54 »
It's all so very enticing this XP patch, but I can't seem to find the link to it; I've tried the one that was given on the site by 'nayoung' but the link's dead, all I could get was an older version of the patch (1.0). Could someone PLEASE post a working link of the 1.3a patch or later?

*Begs all pathetic like*

- PS: The 1.0 patch for XP doesn't fix the error when you're playing the Snowboarding mini-game (I don't know about the Chocobo Race mini-game yet).

- PS #2: I've tried to find the latest XP patch on KaZaA and WinMX; no luck...
