I got GF6800GT and latest drivers. I got the Geforce Patch installed, but I get that 8-bit pallete fails in the FF8 config menu. I searched around this board for help, but it seems there is nothing you can do?

I haven't tried the game yet though.

You need to download riva tunner and activate that option, because the default driver disable that option.

yeah I downloaded the program. Where is the option I should check?

I went into forceware direct3d settings and there was something called 8-bit pallettesized surfaces checked already, so I pressed ok, and it still fails the ff8 config.

So help me out with the options here

Umm, you should be able to play FF8 with 8-bit palette failing and it should be fine.  You only have to do any funny fixes with FF7.

It's not fine. I started up the game, and there are blackboxes everywhere. Lots of textures are missing.

LOL sectionX i have the exact same card and the same problem.  I tried the riva tuner but there were only 8 bit surfaces, no 8 bit textures.  Anyways it was already enabled, but I still get graphics curruption.

lol what a coincidence  :)

Well it would be nice if anyone could help us solve the problem. Rivtuner didn't do it.

Do you have icq, aim or msn?

This is a known issue with the graphics card drivers for the GeForce 6xxx series, not necessarily with 8-bit palleted textures not being supported.  (There are lots of cards that fail 8-bit palleted textures but still run the game fine, like both my GeForce4 Ti and Radeon 9800.)

I believe the only workaround at this time is to play the game in software rendering mode.

Rivatuner most likely is not compatible with your driver. I haven't been keeping up with Rivatuner, but Nvidia usually changes their stuff so radically that the creater of Rivatuner needs to create a new database so it will work with the driver.

You're only real solution is to go back to previous drivers, and see if they solve it.

I managed to see FF8 run fine with a certain driver, and with the paste and cut fix of the Anti-alasing settings. the post should be in the FF7 FAQ thread...somewhere. But I don't know if those drivers are compatible with the GT cards.

Savage xp...i really have to thank you...i installed your update on my Geforce 6800 Gt and now Final Fantasy 7 works great in Hardware mode too...but i still have problems in FF8 about the blackboxes everywhere...isn't it strange that FF7 now works well with no black textures anymore and FF8 not yet? :weep: Please how can I do to fix this other problem?

The problem is not a 8bit palleted textures but a way that geforce 6 blends textures.
Black boxes problem is also present in older games like warzone 2100.

I hope i am wrong but the only solution would be to heavily modify drivers
(little tweaks would not work) or another solution is to beg The Saint to create patch for ff8  (like his ff7 patch). Since The Saint has no time for ff8 and ff8 is different then ff7 , and full ff7 patch is not ready yet it wil not happen in the near future.
