3) char.lgp contains 3d models for the game when you walk over the maps or world.

File extensions should go like this:
TEX - textures, pictures
P - 3d models, parts of the bodies
RSD - 3d body part description, points to P files and TEX files
HRC - model skeleton description, points to the RSD
A - animation files

There was no list for char.lgp ... but I found on my disc some archive with models splitted by names (ff7_models_1122810965.zip) ... i'll make a listing of it, here:

I have looked at fice's site (http://www.sylphds.net/f2k3, fice: ficedula.co.uk shows dir listing only! ), yes he mentioned that there is some plugin for Zangan, but I don't see any.

You can use Biturn for this purpose. It can export 1) complete battle locations 2) complete battle/field character models.

Battle locations are extracted same way as battle models, and they are also in the same file battle.lgp I think, their prefix is OG - RR

Have you looked into the registry ?
I'd say that in the registry is a path to the game directory, and FF7 is putting the savegames to the "game-directory/SAVE" ... so I'd say that you have to set this somewhere to writable disc, what means that you have to copy the files there too... so in my opinion it won't go without installation.

Biturn is both, it can view FF8 files and also the Warcraft 3 files as jamesyfx said.

yoghurt: tell me when does it crash. Is it on the start of program, or when you try to convert something ? Also try to download other version, for example Biturn 0.86a1, if the result is the same.

Don't know any free disassemblers for current programs, because when I was disassembling last time it was 6 years ago and I used Turob debugger which comes with turbo pascal I think :) Its good, but only on Dos programs ... but maybe google will help

apz freak: I can answer your Biturn question. Reason why everything is mixed up is, as I mentioned in older post, that there are no animation files in the archive, so program does not know how to setup the skeleton.

Looking good, but you are missing animation files ! Each of model has one or more animations, i think it were files with .a extension. When you sort all files by filename (not by extension/type) you can clearly see which one belongs to which model, because they are just after the model files (i think).
Also if you could not see some models through ifalna <advertisment mode> you can try to look at it through biturn, dl on this webpage </advertisment mode>.

Info I can provide is my description for TEX format: http://mirex.mypage.sk/FILES/ff7_tex.txt but there is not much of info really.
And I think that Ficedula has a tool which can convert BMP to TEX correctly ... try here: http://ficedula.cjb.net/  ... maybe it was TexTool  ? By that you could probably change the fonts and then compile them back into the game by some LGP packer.

Smooth idea Qhimm. I opened it and it shows that these dll's are needed:

windows-like: comctl32.dll  advapi32.dll  user32.dll  gdi32.dll  kernel32.dll

3ds max-like:  core.dll  geom.dll  maxutil.dll  mesh.dll

visual studio-like:  msvcp71d.dll  msvcr71.dll

I think that you have the windows dll's, but you are missing either visual studio ones, or 3ds max ones.
