No, for a new model complete it and save in .3ds format, then import that into Reunion's PCreator and save as .p file.  For .p file load it up in biturn and save as .3ds, edit .3ds file in max or other editor, then place in PCreator and save as .p.

Nope going through 3DS format is a wrong way to go. 3DS looses vertex colours and makes model look 'blocky. You have to convert model into .ASE format in Biturn, and get a plugin for 3DS MAX to load ASE format. Here is more on this topic: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=2819

Just so you know, when I was in the phase on FF7 model editing like a year ago, there was no .ase importer for 3ds Max 8. I had to get version 5 and use that instead (or was it 6?).
