FFVII PSP
« on: 2009-08-20 17:06:04 »
Well this will likely be locked in a New York minute but I thought I'd ask about it anyway.

Let's say you just happen to have a hard modded PSP, if you could run old school DX emulators, would aali's driver work?
Note:  I've bought the game twice for PSX and recently spent $40US on a PC version.

I just think it'd be neat to attempt to get mods working on a PSP.  I'm fairly certain though, you'd need an ultima edition (PSX) and the mods have only gone so far with that..

Yeah, I don't think this topic will last very long. Your vowels may also go missing. :-P

Also...

No, the Ultima Edition is some kind of modification of the PC version for naughty naughty pirates.

Aali's driver only works for the PC version.  So in essence, you would have to download a windows 98 emulator for the psp, then install ff7pc on that emulator, then run the game.

By that time though, you won't have enough ram left to even run the game.

Already looked into it.  :-P
There is a way to stream games from your PS3 to the PSP I think, but you'd have to install linux and the screen would look awkward.
Basically, it's not worth it.  Stick with the PSX version on PSP

The PSX version can be modified anyway... although obviously models and stuff will remain standard detail.

Difficulty mods n stuff are all fine, though!

And they're the best kind of mod!

Also, about playing FF7 PC on the PS3...

Is that possible? I've heard that, whilst the PS3 can handle Linux, it can't handle playing Windows games with WINE. Would there be some other way to do it?

What would be the point in that anyway, can't you just use a PC?

In suppose there's a certain appeal to playing a heavily modded PC version of FF7 on a PlayStation with a Dual Shock controller and with a nice, big TV screen. Just don't go showing off with it, 'cos Square will have deformed mutant kittens

I don't see why not.  It may depend on whether you use YellowDog or Ubuntu or...etc etc, but since the driver now supports WINE, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible

A google search for "ps3" and "wine" gives a lot of results for people asking about this and forums and being told it's impossible.

The issue isn't that FF7PC can't run in Wine. The problem is, Wine can't run adequately on the PS3.

It seems that some people have managed to get Windows XP on a PS3 , but I'm not sure whether it would be possible to play FF7. Also, there was something I didn't understand about the PS3 not letting other operating systems use the GPU that might stop people playing FF7 PC on the PS3.

Hmm.

Well I wonder if a psx version could actually use the emulators built into the psp.

After all it IS available for PSP on PSN.

You can play any psx game on a modded psp if you know what you are doing

The only thing realistically moddable on the PSX version of the game is scene.bin, and only if it's smaller than the original.

That and....
Ka-clunk!
Oops, I slipped and hit the lock button.... Sorry!

There is no such thing as a "hard modded PSP", and don't be an idiot. The PSP uses a Sony emulator bought from Connectix to play PSN games. The PSN files are digitally signed and can not be modded.
