I tried the upside down movie patch, nividia patch, and the patch from this site. The FMVs play fine but the menus and in gmae graphics don't show up at all, just a black screen.

Use the FF7config from the patch....don't select any of the Riva options, and don't copy the FF7.exe from the patch.

What drivers are you using?  You might try upgrading to newer display drivers from nVidia's web site.

And, have you tried the game in software rendering?  See if it works there... and if worst comes to worst, you can always play the game in software rendering (should be perfectly playable on today's fast systems).

It does run but it looks lame and the menus lag. I have the newest drivers too.

Having the newest drivers isn't neccesarily the best thing, at least for ff7pc in winxp. Try out the 29.42, 44.03, or the 43.45 detonator drivers with ff7pc in direct3d mode. You can get them all from guru3d.com. You may have to do some searching, however.

If you never are able to get direct3d to work at all, try running it in software mode in 320x240. It'll definately give you a decent speed. AKA no menu lag.

NooOooOoo it wouldn't. It really won't matter at all. Since you have a geforce4 you're getting decent speeds on other programs/games anyways. Installing older drivers will in fact do the opposite of "screw up". Why? Because I've used those drivers, and they whoop ass!!!

is there any way to fix the problem without resorting to downgrading the drivers?

NooOoooOooo there isn't. Come on, be bold! Do something you haven't done before!! Plus, "downgrading" video card drivers really isn't downgrading at all. Think of it as experimentation. Non-risk experimentation.

Did you load the patch correctly? The patch was designed for the TNT card, not the Geforce card. You have to manipulate the patch to get Direct3d to work..... And I already stated what to do.

I'm using the 44.03. but with a G2.....they could be right. Could be that the G4 isn't fully compatible with the 44.03 drivers. Either that, or you didn't install the patch correctly. The only other thing that may be causing it...is DirectX, itself.

I'm using DirectX8.1a. If your using DX9.0a....well, that could be the cause.

I don't know what the others, here, are using....

It'll come soon. I ended getting the wrong one when I first ordered it. Damn anti-tv-out bastards.
