Well that is pretty sucky to say the least. I do not post often but visit often. I must have not been paying attention as I have not noticed it going *that far* downhill. With that said I only visit a select few of the boards so maybe I missed some things.

Sorry to see you go, and for any problems I may have caused or participated in.

Good luck!

Wow. Didn't see this coming... at all. Out of curiosity, any specific events that triggered this?

Hey hey now, don't let a few people give you a sour taste after that thread.  You don't have to resign, or if you want to resign at least keep being a member.  I'm not here most all the time, and sometimes there are months when I don't come.  Take some time off, get your real life taken care off and hopefully some of the people here will grow up.

Yeah, it was the sex offender avatars thing that sparked this whole mess. I was fine with the punishment thing because I deserved it. I wouldnt have said anything if jari didnt bring be back in, but I guess im one of the stupid ones for speaking my mind. Jari, I wish you would forget about this, rubicant and myself were completely banned from using avatars at all and we are both sorry for using the avatars in the first place.

This wasn't really something you could see coming. The reason why we were punished because of this avatar shit is because Jari threatened to leave if we weren't punished. And he ended up leaving anyways. Why? Because the receivers of the punishment (which was permanent, or at least until qhimm revamped the boards) felt it was not fair. And if you ask me, I would say it's not a fair punishment. As do nameless others. There are many things I can say about all this, but I won't. However, I'll remember his going-away present as my privilege to use avatars being removed.

Jari, you shall be missed.

I *could* see this coming (you've been uncomfortably predictable about this Jari...) =/ I don't have time for a proper reply, (I'll make a "better" one tomorrow), but one thing jumped out at me.

I also wish my profile to be deleted.

Whatever happens, I'd rather his account not be deleted. Instantly removing 1000+ posts from the board is bound to be disruptive, and make many old threads somewhat useless in spots where Jari contributed.

Resign!? Come on Jari,
You are an awesome moderator as well as Aaron, Alhexx, eerrrr,
ficedula, Qhimm, Sephiroth 3D & The SaiNt.

I have read your old posts before I think you did wonderful job as member,
and even as moderator!
You can't expect every member to be perfect & meet moderators' expatiations!
(I wish we could...)

I came to this forums for FFVII (PC)
Well, I had few opportunities to help few people with their FFVII (PC) and so on~
I did gain some great values from members, moderators, administrators & friends!
My point is... I think many us are forgetting purpose of this forums!
A community dedicated to FF-related engineering...
I didn't come here to brag about who is better, and who isn't;
Who is correct, and who isn't...

We are different, and that makes world very colorful...
Please don’t walk away Jari!!!

Aww no don't leave. Your one of the smartest people here!

Are you leaving out of sheer disgust of what the forum's become, or because you've lost interest? If your still interested in what happens here then that's no reason to leave! Sure, I can understand resigning from being a mod because it's become tedious, but to leave altogether seems like a bit of a waste.

I think vvalentine's right, take a little break and see how you feel.

(He'll come crawling back)

I personally wouldn't want to see you resign or worse still, to leave the boardroom.

You've been  a great benefit to the forum community both as a moderator and a member of the board.

I've learnt a lot about forum etiquette from the moderators and admins of the forum over the years... I remember being told off a few times in the past for posting silly stuff.... and it's because of people like you who are actually keeping things the right way.

If you insist on leaving however, then I wish you all the best and thanks for helping me out in a few issues (Mainly on computer problems) in the past.

Well I didn't really see this coming...  I think its a shame for Jari to leave, and I'm honored that he thinks I'd make a good moderator - but are you sure you want to leave just because of a couple things?  I kind of think that you are making things seem like bigger problems than they actually are.  There's been a lot of discussion about avatars being too big recently that may have contributed to this, but I really don't see why we should make such a big deal out of the avatars - the discussion is much more important, anyway.  These boards are a great place to be, and all this arguing about avatars and rules is taking away one of the best things about it... we shouldn't have to do that.  And now we're losing one of our good members.  I don't have much more to say that hasn't already been said.

I don't think Jari's account or posts should be removed.  If he'd like to remove all information from his profile, he can do that.

Anyway, I'm curious to see what Qhimm thinks about this...

Point #1: I'm sorry to read that Jari's going to leave. He was one of our first members, and did a very good job as a moderator here. It's sad to see him leaving since he has been very helpful for us all.

Point #2: We're a fast growing messageboard with 650+ members. Take a look at other boards and see the crap that is made there. I think as a moderator it is our job to enforce that the forum rules are respected, but on the other hand we also should keep cool in critical situations.
I don't know what happened between Rubicant, Mofokubik and Jari before, so please excuse me if I have a wrong image of the situation, but I think that Jari overreacted this time...

Quote
Some might even be sad. Don't be, because it is not the end, but a beginning of something new.

I hope it's the right choice for you, so you won't regret it.

Goodbye, and we'll hopefully meet again.

::watches average IQ drop several points as Jari leaves::

Okay, first of all I'm sorry to see you leave, Jari. It has been a privilege to have a moderator of such wit and sound opinion on these forums. I don't know whether or not the events of lately triggered this, but I'll respect your choice none-the-less.

Secondly, since there's been an awful lot of bitching about this avatar thing, I might as well make a few things clear:

1. While Jari did state an ultimatum about the avatar issue with Rubicant and Mofokubik, I was not forced to ban avatar use for you two. It just so happens that I fully support Jari's opinion, and you happen to be lucky that I chose a mild punishment for this little show of blatant disregard for rules/common sense.

2. Rubicant, shut up. Your whining on this issue has been constant, and we all already know you think it's horribly unfair you can no longer display a little blob of pixels next to your name, and I'm sure your nameless friends agree with you. But fact is, there has been several people showing a splendid lack of judgment regarding avatar sizes, and the moderators have had a very relaxed attitude towards it, despite the fact that it's annoying to everyone else. But rules without enforcement are not rules, and even while we now punish, it's STILL a very relaxed attitude here compared to other forums who would instantly ban your ass from the board. Shape up, or you'll start getting on my nerves with that attitude. And have you ever wondered why there are so few people on these forums that get on my nerves...?

3. For anyone else with questions about avatars, let's just re-state my views on them. First, avatars should not be too large, 10 kB is a reasonable limit. Many people are on dial-up, you know. Second, avatars should be reasonably sized. That is, they should not be annoying or disturbing when you're trying to read a post. Examples of such are overly wide avatars (moving post content far off right), overly high avatars (making a page of short posts consist of mostly space), or plain ugly avatars (offensive to the eye). Violation of avatar rules will result in loss of avatar rights. If anyone feels that this form of punishment is not apt, you are welcome to use no avatar at all, and instead use your avatar on some other forum that allow it.

Keeping forums like these clean and pleasant is no easy job, and it does involve weeding out the disruptive elements. Every member should strive to contribute as much to the forums as the forums helps them.

Now, this is what will happen next:
1. Jari's moderator status will be revoked, according to his wish.
2. Jari's account will, however, be left intact. His posts would have remained in any case, but this is still a preferable choice. Jari, think of it as an open door, should you choose to revisit us any time in the future.
3. Work will begin on selecting new moderators for all forums, and although it'll be hard to find someone I trust like Jari, a solution will eventually be found. The forums will not go unmoderated.

That is all for now. Any questions you have, I will answer here.

I shall deal with this on a case by case basis.

On the avatar case:

To be honest Jari threatening to leave makes no difference.
A moderator's duty is to keep the forum under control according to what he / she thinks is reasonable.
For things not under his / her jurisdiction, the moderator will bring it to the attention of an admin so that something can be done.
Simply said, the admins aren't omnipotent and that's why the moderators are there.
The admins can easily ignore unreasonable requests that moderators might make and as you can see from Qhimm's post, he was not forced into making this decision.

There will always be rules / guidelines to govern this forum and if you're not happy with them, there is always an option to leave.
No one is exempted, including myself.
(The only exception is Qhimm cause he owns the forums -_-;)

On Jari's case:

Your resignation is our loss and I'm sorry to see you leave.
However, it is your choice to resign and all I can do is respect your decision.
I do hope that you will return every once in a while to help us out when we need you ;)

Does this mean that the (whole) moderators staff will be "changed" or only that there have to be new moderators found for Jari's place?

Fine. It's your boards, Qhimm; It's your decision as to how people are punished for breaking rules. I have no place protesting against punishment and I did anyways. My posts won't be the same without emperor cain, but a silly picture can't add that much.

I feel so responsible for Jari leaving.

Well, this is certainly surprising.  I haven't read those threads that led up to this, and because of that, I did NOT see this coming.

Anyone who remembers some of the more recent threads about the NV31/35, knows that you and I have had some....disagreeing points of view over the time I've been here (mainly in regards to 3Dfx and nVidia, and usually written in ways that look like a flame war would start if we weren't careful...now there's a bad idea...getting into a flame war with a mod :P), but regardless of all that, I am sorry to see you leave, Jari.  And yes, you DO have my respect.....and I agree with the others in that you will be missed.

Quote from: Jari Huttunen
I would like to suggest Aaron as a moderator for General. Or Shretron, if he's feeling up to it. Goku7 could help Aaron with Tweaking. But that's for you to decide, not me.

I feel honored that you'd recommend me for that type of capacity in the forums.  No, that's not the reason you have my respect.....Honest. :P

On the other hand, I'm surprised that you DID suggest me to do that, though, especially sinse I haven't been as active here as I used to.....but you're right, it would be their decision to make.....*stands there partially confused*

Sorry Jari but i have to disagree with you leaving completley
Ive seen this before where a person in power has been over ridden by the childishness and selfishness of a few dumb minded individuals and repeated fealons.
But if u step down as moderator, isnt that enought?
Your contribution to the world Of final fantasy on the PC has been tremendous, and your work throughout has been excellent with little or no pay-off.
It would be a major blow to the community and the scene as a whole if you were to just leave.
step down yes, leave us no.
step down and think about it mate.

1. you guys take this forum stuff too seriously; people die everyday for no reason and you're rambling about a picture.

2. since i doubt anyone on this forum memorizes the entire sex offender database rubicant and mofokubik must have put up some kind of flag to announce that this is a picture of a sex offender.

therefore they invited punishment.

like yelling " i have a warrant " in the middle of fbi headquarters.

3. finally, permanent banning is too extreme unless you do something really crazy and this doesn't qualify in my opinion.

Jari Huttunen was a giant amongst us--that probably sounds trite, but I think it fairly/honestly applies. I guess all I can add is that I hope at some future date a certain respected member of these forums takes advantage of the open door. Hopefully Terence Ferguson still lurks, and maybe dagsverre will poke his head back in once in awhile. ...but it still won't be the same.

I've a feeling this would not have been anywhere near the big deal it was if avatars had been banned on Rubicant and Mofokubik for a month, or some other reasonable amount of time. The entire ordeal seems a bit childish to me. Compounded by the fact that all involved are apparently reasonable people, it seems even more juvenile.

In a nutshell, someone needs to swallow their pride. Either Rubicant and Mofokubik accept the punishment as reasonable, or Jari needs to admit to being immature in using his departure as an ultimatum (especially since he left anyway). It's no fun to watch intelligent people act like elementary schoolers.

We are losing many of our giant members ... however, Jari is the first who left that officially. I remember some names of members who are beeing missed here at the moment: ficedula, seph 3d, phaeron and some of others...

However, as Qhimm said, we have to respect Jari's desision and hope that it at least is the right decision for him, since it the wrong decision for us...

But I've got to agree with Skillster, simply leaving us here is a kind of capitulation...

Damn Jari.. I will totally miss you.. The way you tore through every argument with eloquence, and the way you always had a very valid point.. You are really one of the most intellectual members of the board.. In fact, you remind me much of Qhimm.. I think I have said this before that I really love the way you 2 handle things around here.. about the avatar thing.. Qhimm its your board.. No one has to come here if they don’t desire to.. Anyway.. I gotta run.. School starts tomorrow and I have to go see my semi-girlfriend.. In short, Jari I wish there was a way you would change your mind.. But if you don’t just know that I think you were a totally kick ass moderator, and I will miss you and your insight greatly.

:(
Sorry to see you go Jari. Another old schooler off the board...

When things like these happanes it makes me remember the good old days of forum-going...
Like when I was at school one day someone posted some 20 topics in Eidos's FFVII forum and I replied to them all.. took all lunch since the net was so slow.
And when topics would stay on topic till the original topic was all said and done, then desentergrate into flame wars and weird discussions... and best of all the moderators would either sit back and have a cigar or join in....
Its sad, there was a hell of a lot less n00bs and idiots on the net then, so things could run like that. Try that now and all you get is a 60 page flame thread with maybe 1/2 people tops amusing the heads.. where as back in the day some of those topics were topped with gold....
Some of the ones here were to good... not really for flames, but for random discussions. I really liked the way Qhimm (allthough the REALLY early ones, ones discussing the original FFVII Soundfonts enhancements, if I remember rightly, Soundfonts are what bought me here from Eidos, arent here since I think Qhimm lost all those topics when he changed the board system once... or something) has kept loads of the old topics about, even at the risk of them being bumped by idiot n00b #4543293.. its so nostalgic going though the old topics from back then and seeing how many words I didnt know how to spell then and how many I still cant smell now.

Oh well safe wherever ya are Jari. Hope to see you back one of these days when the forum dies completely and theres just like 2 or 3 people posting... heh. Like the Not Eidos Forums... that was brilliant.

Public: However dont worry. SirCanealot will not disapear off these boards for quite some time! No point in dissapearing for me really heh. Theres still a little discussion to be had here every now and again :)

Oh well there ends random rant #4828...

Alright i wasnt going to say anything else.. i was going to leave it at that and let it die.. but.. since mark decided to comment i will as well..

If you had come to these boards as often as you said you have you would know that statement you made is false.. there are many intelligent minds present here.. I'm not going to bother naming them.. but they know who they are and were..

Hello Nori,

As you can see, we seek to completely decipher the files compressed in the file scene.bin
(Final Fantasy 7).

It will be useful if we could allow to change the levels, the points of Helse, the points of Magic or even the others stats.
That could give a new youth to this still appreciated play.

You will find further info's at this forum, see "Tech-related",
Topic "FF7's .BIN Format Spec", and specially you could take a look at the message from:

I think that the Japanese developers had to work on this subject before us.
I am persuaded that they have better information and that they published them.

The reason for which I call upon you is that we would like to contact the Japanese communities based in the USA.

Do you know such communities? Or can you give us specified information on this subject?

Thank you and greetings

Excuse me for my horrible mistake.
More especially while it was my first message.
I noticed too late that I had posted on the bad topic.
I believed to find me with the Tech-related forum.

It is always sad to see a member of the community leaving. Particularly if it's the moderator. I do not know all the last events. I do not know the reasons which oblige him to leave. But while reading what says Jari that makes me unhappy. Seeing somebody leaving is always a tearing.

I share the opinion of Alhexx:
