[FF7PC-98/Steam] Lv.1 Challenge Mod (2014-04-18)

FF7 Lv.1 Challenge

FF7 Lv.1 Challenge 7th Heaven IRO
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IXYoK1B75dezh-f9djdr9Zk3Fiw2ESZA/view?usp=sharing

Restricts the player to using Lv.1 characters with their Lv.1 stats; affects the scene.bin and kernel.bin files so it's very lightweight. To install, simply unzip the download and place the scene.bin and kernel.bin into the following locations:

1998 Version
Final Fantasy VII/Data/Battle (scene.bin)
Final Fantasy VII/Data/Kernel (kernel.bin)

Steam Version
Final Fantasy VII/Data/lang-en/Battle (scene.bin)
Final Fantasy VII/Data/lang-en/Kernel (kernel.bin)

If using the IRO, then import to 7th Heaven and activate it (also available through the Sega catalog).

Hi, I was looking to use this mod, but the file is no longer hosted. Does Sega Chief still post here or does anyone have it and would be gracious enough to rehost?

Here it is:

https://mega.nz/file/u00lxb6B#JYDK7iJQOupoAFmLeaID6iyoq05c28zHHAr1B-F3-TM

That contains the scene.bin + kernel.bin; place them in the data/battle and data/kernel folders (1998 version) or data/lang-en/battle + data/lang-en/kernel folders (Steam).

If an IRO is needed let me know, but I think the Qhimm Catalog had it.

I think they can be put into the PSX version as well.

I'm just before Reno & the plate, really loving how the battles are more involved versus "mash circle to win lololol".

I am curious to one thing though.... Since we are capped at level 1, doesn't that make our steal rates effectively zero percent? Is there a way to patch this to a flat percentage (ex/ 30% or 50%)?

Thanks for this mod!

Edit: tried some google-fu earlier and couldn't seem to come up with anything that worked. Tried to do it with the Godo setting of "Max Drop/Steal" to no avail. I think I understand how to do it through Bahamut with patch-all, I am just confused as to the actual values to be entered. Am I on the right track?

Yeah, but I'd say that's a part of it. The goal is to beat the game with a Lv.1 party so things like steal/manip success, magic accuracy, party damage, etc. all factor. Setting the steal-rates to the highest possible rate with an editor will only help for a little while as the level-difference between the party and enemies slowly ramps up over the course of the game until it becomes impossible again.

Sneak Glove and Hypnocrown can get around this but the former isn't available until the late stages of Disc 2.

Ah makes sense. Thanks for the quick response, I'll just forego stealing this time around. TBH I tried New Threat today and it piqued my interest to say the least.

Hi Sega Chief,

First of all thanks for this mod, been using it recently and I love how challenging yet rewarding it's been.

I just had a few questions that I've been unable to find answers for, is it a feature of this mod than we can't use more than 100% HP Plus or MP Plus? It isn't that big of a deal if we can't, I'm just curious because I can't get my HP or MP values higher than +100%, also Yuffie is not able to obtain more MP at all so she's stuck at 10MP regardless of what I give her, this one is kind of annoying because I'd like to be able to use her more but with such low hp/mp it was a struggle to get her through the pagoda, I can only imagine that I'd be constantly throwing her phoenix downs anywhere else and she's my favourite char :/

I think this limit is also in vanilla; it doesn't allow for stacking past the 100% mark (same with the other stat plus materia). As far as Yuffie goes, she's a bit of a unique case where all her starting stats are 0 and her HP/MP are at the lowest possible (100 and 10 respectively); I wanted the mod to just be as close to vanilla as possible albeit with accurate Lv.1 stats across the board, but I could change Yuffie's 0'd stats to be a bit closer to what the other characters have.

I checked, and it looks like they're still available to use and can still be obtained from enemies.

Is there any way to make this compatible with New Threat?
Really wanted to try running NT2.0 with the added level 1 challenge
