FF8 Music slows down with hardware audio ... ?

I'm using Samuel Slight's DLS v1.36, I must admit it is quite good, nearly the same as PSX's.......   :)

Problem is, I tried using SBLive MIDI as my Music Device... and the music slows down horribly..... .....   :-?
I'm using the latest SBLive! drivers... for WinXP.
It works fine for Microsoft Synthesizer though....... weird.....
My Sound card is quite an old one.... SBLive! Value 1024.

Sir Canealot:
What do you mean?

Hmm. Your meant to use Microsoft Syn for Sam's DLS arent you? So use that?

I might install FFVIII tomorow and get Sam's DLS. I have XP now a days so I will tell you if I notice any thing like your problems.

By the way post your specs if you cant fix this prob.

I didn't think FF8 loaded in XP at all. Well, my copy of WinXP was... bad.

I want to use hardware, I think the performance will be slightly better than the MS' Synthesizer...

but anyway.. no chance.. still the same ol' slow music... heh so I guess I'll stick with MS Synthesizer....no diff anyway... I think.

Well, I used to play FF8 a lot back when I was using Win98, and it worked fine on a Soundblaster Live! card. (NB I wasn't using any MIDI Selecting software.)

That was quite a while ago. Now I have Windows XP. I picked up FF8 to play again, and the music was incredibly slow. I don't know whether it's a DirectX issue, or a Windows compatability issue, or whether I've just got different drivers now...

But I will recommend that everybody installs both Win98 and WinXP on the same PC to avoid situations like this coming up.
