You know that stupid mini game where you duel Blank in the beginning of FF9?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUCil9SYAiE

Yeah, that one. It is virtually impossible to get 100. Getting 100/100 gets you 10 000 gil and a moonstone (which can teach you shell early on in the game), whereas getting 99/100 gets you something like... 1000 gil and a silk shirt. So it's pretty freaking worth it, especially if you want a "perfect" game.

Well, Timu Sumisu and I just spent over an hour, maybe two hours trying to get 100 on this bloody game. About half of our results were above 96, which was really annoying. And we finally got it, and thought we'd celebrate over a couple beers. XD

Our reaction every time we screwed up a button early on in the mini game:

Our reaction once we won:

Aaaaanyway, what's up with FF9 and their annoying as hell mini games right at the beginning of the game? Every time I want to do a "perfect" run through of this bloody game, I get turned off by these difficult mini games in the beginning. They're not hard per se but getting 100% on both jumping rope and sword fight mini games is a b*tch. I'm pretty good at the jump rope game, I've gotten all the items from it (300+ jumps) except the King of Jump Rope key item. u_u" I know you can go and do this later on in the game when you come back but still.... MRAWRR. =/

General Discussion / The Squall's Dead Theory
« on: 2010-06-19 16:53:57 »
http://squallsdead.com/

Squall dies at the end of disc 1 when he gets skewered by Edea's magic icicle thing.

At first I lol'd. Then I realized it all made sense in the end. After reading the whole thing it just all added up. Some of the arguments are that the story past disc one is too far-fetched and that everything seems coincidental for the convenience of the plot. If you ask me most FF storylines are indeed far-fetched and sometimes too convenient, and ff8 is no exception to the rule.

Anyway, although the arguments do really add up and make sense, I don't think this theory is akshully true, because I don't know why square would be so subtle about something as important as well... the main character being dead for the whole game past disc 1. :P

EDIT: Oh and BTW, reading 'bout this theory reminded me how messed up the end of the game was... Some of the shots really freak me out, like the distorted Rinoas over and over again. But the thing that freaked me out the most was that one shot of Squall's head with this black void for a face. When I go to bed now I get scared of faceless Squalls in my closet and under my bed. T____T

HAY! You can change the color of your character's underwear! :D :D Now *that* is useful!

Well, I don't have much to say, side from it sure looks pretty. :P Beats the World of Warcraft graphics at least... (although WoW is bout to get a supah graphix upgrade).

Completely Unrelated / Battle with the Four Fiends

So I've just figured out how to save songs made in Logic Pro 8 into mp3 files (took me a while) and I finally decided to experiment moar with Logic n stuff. I just made a quick remix of Battle with the Four Fiends, one of the best sawngs by Nobuo if you ask me. :) Just thought I'd share it with y'all.

I might get into remaking the FF7 OST some time sooner or later, depending if I'm gonna decide to stop being lazy for once. :D

Completely Unrelated / Don Corneo Dating Sim
« on: 2009-09-28 05:31:27 »
Hello all. I've been contemplating the thought of creating an FF dating sim in Flash revolving around Don Corneo and the girls from FF7. This thought came to mind because there is already an existing FF dating sim made with flash, and if you ask me, it was extremely poorly done. If I remember well, you could just spam "talk" as much as you like to a girl without exiting the screen which granted you more and more points, so you can technically build as many points as you want with a girl with just one encounter. That and I don't remember there being any ending, I believe it just went on and on which is kind of lame if you ask me.

Anyway, in my Don Corneo dating sim, I'm aiming for your tradition raise stats (str, int, charm), work for cash, speak to the girls and Cloud (yes, Cloud will be a datable character :-D), build your relationship with them, buy them gifts, take them out on dates and finally win their hearts! "Yay for originality!" you must be thinking in a sarcastic manner. Yes the concept is quite unoriginal, except there will be a slight twist at the end of it.  :-D Instead of being able to get some action, everything messes up at the very end. Here are the endings I came up with for each char:

Yuffie - You find out she's underage and you get arrested.
Aeris - As they are about to engage in intercourse, Sephiroth makes an appearance and stabs both Aeris and the Don.
Tifa - Well, unfortunately I haven't really been able to come up with a good ending for her. You... suffocate in her very large chest?
Cloud - The Don finds out he is a guy (wadaya know  :-P)

Anyhow, here's what I came up with so far, with Timu's help.

Characters

Don Corneo - Since his defeat in FF7, the Don has lost his status in Walmarket and floundered his inheritance. Now broke, and still craving intimate company, he roams Walmarket searching for ass. Under the guise of "turning over a new leaf" he attempts to seduce the characters of FF7.

Scotch - After discovering Cloud's transvestite habits, he suffered 3 major concussions at the receiving end of the buster sword. He still holds allegiance to the Don as Corneo provides him with food, and given Scotch is now paralyzed from the neck down, he accepts nourishment in return for dating advice.

Tifa - A well-endowed lady, she is strong in body and in will. She enjoys strong men, and has a competitive attitude. She works at a bar.

Aeris - The last remaining ancient, she spends her time strolling around Midgar selling her "flowers". She is humble and naive, and very honest.

Yuffie - Is an underaged, spunky material thief. Incredibly energetic, only materia will hold her attention for long.

Cloud - An ex-SOLDIER, this man has a tendency to cross-dress. He wields a very large "blade". Despite his fashion, he is difficult to please as he is "not interested".

Locations

Walmarket - The main area of the sim, containing numerous subzones for various functions:

Honeybee Inn
Pharmacy (sells intimate gifts)
Item Shop (sells normal gifts)
Bar
Gym
Weapon Shop
Dress Shop
Corneo's Mansion (your home, rest here between days)

Date Locations (in order of price):
Sector 5 park
Restaurant in Walmarket
Costa del Sol
Wutai/Turtle Paradise
Gold Saucer

Jobs

Bouncer at the Honeybee Inn
Bartender at the Bar
Item repairer at the Weapon Shop (working for the guy who gives you batteries in Wallmarket)

Stats

STR
Can be trained at the gym
The more STR you have, the higher your salary as a bouncer is
Tifa's favorite stat

INT
I haven't figured out how to train INT yet @_@
The more INT, the higher your salary for the item repairing job
Aeris' favorite stat

CHARM
Can be raised at the bar or at the Honeybee Inn
The more CHARM, the higher your salary working as a bartender
Yuffie's favorite stat

Note: Cloud does not have a favorite stat, he will be the most "hard to get" in this game.  :-P

The system would most likely be a day by day sim, where you have a certain amount of HP to spend and at the end of the day when you run out, you go rest at your mansion to replenish your HP for the next day. There will probably be a day limit but I haven't thought about how to give him a limited amount of days yet.

Also, I haven't developed the datable characters yet in terms of all the questions they'll be asking you about on dates. It'd be cool if anyone could provide any ideas for this, or for anything else for that matter.  :-D
