They seem okay.  There are far worse things to do to your children, than let them decide what gender they want to be

Oh, but they're doing far more than that. They're depriving the child of a normal upbringing and therefore making it disabled. If their children have to be shut away from evil society, however are they going to integrate into that society in the future? When (if?) they ever fly the nest, they'll have a massive culture shock and they won't know how they're expected to behave; this will result in an increased risk of being the victim of violent attacks and bullying and a deceased chance of finding a partner or doing well in their career. They'll be like homeschooled children, but 10 times worse.

Their only chance is if someone sets up a commune for people like them and they don't have to deal with the general population.

I don't see the correlation with my bad joke but ok. On that same note, I will take your bet. Alabama has always ranked slightly higher then NY in the SAT department. But the particapation in those exams by Alabama is only 9% as N.Y is 89%.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2007-08-28-sat-table_N.htm

Also there standards I'm sure. Like for instance nursing, if I got my license in say Alabama (for the most part anyway) would not be recognized in N.Y at all.  But a licence in N.Y is recognized around the US! Why? Cause the testing standards in Alabama are considered way to low. :( There are exceptions to this rule. But it is on a per case basis. As NY is one of the the Highest in the country we are recognized everywhere.

I'd imagine is it very similar to the SAT's, some states have higher testing standards, while others do not.... For the record the exams might be the same. But that doesn't mean the teacher leaves the room for the duration of the exam. Or forgets to check to see if you are carrying a smartphone...

But it was just a joke... a bad one at that... and I did say I was sorry.

That might be fruitless. I once had a beef with Jeff about his boasting and challenged him to show his glorious SAT certificate; instead, he asked obesebear to lock the thread.

And if you want a laugh, look at the stats for Jackson's gap in Alabama:

http://www.city-data.com/city/Jacksons-Gap-Alabama.html

Population in July 2009: 767 (this town is barely bigger than my primary school)

For population 25 years and over in Jacksons' Gap:
High school or higher: 49.5%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 4.8%
Graduate or professional degree: 1.9%

(that's right; half of adults haven't graduated from high school)

And another thing.

Jeff claims to have been in prison on drug charges, and it seems that he was buying drugs in this anecdote, but he is judging Californians and talking about the virtues of a Southern Baptist Christian upbringing. lol

129
Not bagging on CALI, my wife is from there and I loved it, but people are CRAZY there, they werent raised in Southern Baptist Christian households and raised to be good people.

the payoff is much better, morally, AND we end up with a few billion people who owe us.

Completely Unrelated / Yet more Korea fail
« on: 2011-06-27 18:52:00 »
One wonders how a country with such excellent educational rankings manages to be so stupid.

It would seem that almost half of South Worst Korean high- and middle-school students think that their country's biggest threat is Japan. Best North Korea gets half as many votes and staunch ally the United States gets almost as many as NK. China was regarded as the biggest threat by only  13% of students and less than 1% thought that Russia was the biggest danger.

Quite how Worst Koreans come to the conclusion that the most pacifist country in the developed world is more of a threat to them than the nuclear-armed country that they are still at war with, and that still attacks them, is a mystery. Also a mystery is how they come the to conclusion that the country that is responsible for their continued survival is almost as much of a threat as Best NK.

Are they still stuck in WWII mode? Do they follow the doctrine common amongst third-world fail countries that America is mindlessly evil, tries to trick people at every opportunity and wants to take over the whole world? Are they massively indoctrinated by complete retards? Do some of them sympathise with Kim-Jong?

I personally think that the USA, since it is obviously such a huge threat, should remove all of its troops from Worst Korea and stop all military support for the South (obviously, this military support must be some kind of trick to make them weaker). Perhaps South Worst Koreans would be happier without interference from those evil Americans; they can deal with Kim-Jong's best nukes on their own.

Well, look at it this way. When you were a child what did you do (or rather, your parents let you do)? Also, did your parents leave you in front of the televizion when you were in your diapers? That's probably why you think that way. Most of us cannot avoid it, unless that is, you are sightless.

I'm not sure how this relates to what I said. Clarify.

133
i find it extremely sad that instead of thinking about better ways to conserve resources, so many just wanna kill off half the planet.

Conserving resources is far harder and far more likely to negatively effect our lives than killing a few billion third-world people.

Interestingly, every time you made a post showcasing the efforts of TA and similar mods, it was almost completely overlooked - yet people were still eager to discuss a true SE remake or a rerelease on steam.
It seems to me that people (in fact, a lot of the people who come here if I'm honest) aren't all that interested in a fan-made graphical remake, which perplexes me. Maybe we're a rare breed xD

Most of those posts showed things that were very "work in progress". Perhaps they weren't enough for people to appreciate the progress that had been made. A picture of a remodelled background with no texture isn't very exciting to most people.

Also, Jeff came on a little strong; they might have thought he was trying to show off and ignored him.

136
Wait, am I seeing things?

When I looked at that thread, it seemed as if there were people having a mature discussion about their favourite FF game without resorting to childish name-calling or ridiculous criticisms based on horrific misunderstandings of the games' storylines. This is highly irregular!

Most threads in which FF7 is mentioned end up with idiots shouting "emo" and "mama's boy" and talking about the game in such a way that one wonders whether they never actually played it and got all their information from watching AMV's of Advent Children on YouTube.

Jeff, commend these people for being able to talk about the relative merits of FF games in a sensible manner and not being fanboy retards!

137
If anyone had been bothered to look at his profile, they'd see that he claims to be 18

To achieve your dream, you'll need to do one of three things:

1. Win the lottery. 9001 times.

2. Found several successful multinational corporations.

3. Become president of the United States and find some way to give all power to the executive branch.

This is the amount of money or power you'll need if you want to unite a huge continent filled with hundreds of different languages and hundreds of ethnic groups that have nothing in common.

The first one of these three things is the most likely.

Longer the Better. Rushing Through Anything Only Leads To Bad Results

Can we make posting in Comic Sans a bannable offence?

140
I wonder whether this is turning into the religion thread? It seems as if the idea of religion causing anything bad is uncomfortable for some people. Some other reason for this ghastly behaviour must be found!

Anyway, it's a false distinction. Religion is a way of life for some people. Especially fundamentalists. Especially Islamic fundamentalists, since Islam is extremely political. To these people, Islam is their life and their life is Islam. There is no difference.

141
Geert Wilders, the popular Dutch politician, was at risk of becoming a political prisoner for daring to insult someone's imaginary friend. Despite the wishes of those who think that freedom comes second to "not giving offence", Wilders was acquitted of the ridiculous charges against him.

Hopefully, this will set a precedent that will make it harder in future to abuse hate-speech laws (designed to protect people) in order to silence debate about ideologies.

However, we must not forget that it was an abomination that this trial even happened. Perhaps we can say that this is the first step on the road to recovery from the hysteria and race-card-playing that has plagued Europe for the last decade.

142
I actually found Blitzball to be INCRDIBLY easy

I was talking about the first game, when your team is absolute shit. When you get to buy players and pick your team; it becomes ridiculously easy to win every match by huge margins.

143
No I disagree.  There is a distinction between all tests and every test is difficult in its own way.  Dodging lighting bolts is difficult because it requires endurance of concentration.  I don;t see that as a negative just as a different.

Then an awful lot of people disagree with you.

In any case, the "endurance" (as in, "try do keep doing this for an hour without losing the will to live and trying to hang yourself with the cord on your controller") kind of tests are far less enjoyable than tests that require real thought or talent and therefore have no place in entertainment products; they're better suited to Guantanamo Bay. They also require less thought on the part of the developers and are therefore regarded as an example of laziness or lack of creativity.

144
That is why it is hard.  It tests you in endurance and concentration.  Think of it that way.

There's an important distinction between things that are hard because they require brains or skill and things that are hard because they're boring and no sane person would bother to waste the time doing them. The former are good and the latter bad. Unfortunately, the tedious minigames of the later FFs and the endless grinding of the earlier ones fall into the second category.

FF10 and FF9 definitely had the MOST FRUSTRATING minigames EVER CREATED.
FF9 street racing? Holy shit I got SCARRS FROM THE BLISTERS RUBBING THE BUTTONS ON THE PAD
FF9 springrope jumping? This makes FF10's lightning evading look like silly bullshit
FF10 Butterfly race? jesus christ the randomness -_-
FF10 Lightning evasion? Not anywhere as bad as the springrope jumping in FF9 but HORRIBAD still
FF10 Chocobo Race? SEAGULL IN YOUR FACE MAN. I actually ate-destroyed a pad in rage because I finished at exact 0.0 and I needed -0.1

I can't believe you just bitched about FF9 and 10's minigames without mentioning either the swordfight at the beginning of 9 or the first Blitzball game in 10.

Or 9's card game. What the fuck was up with that? 8 had a brilliant card game, but 9's was  just ridiculous.

It would seem that someone has been playing Persona.

Pfft. I came across this ages ago.  ;D I'm sure it's pretty well known.

It should go on the wiki, if it isn't there already.

148
haha actually its the "federal" tax laws that are completely illegal.

I have some bad news for you:

If you wish to avoid being subject to any ad "himinem" (against the hymen?) attacks, you may wish to try showing better knowledge of your own constitution when discussing the law.

EDIT:

I've just noticed that the amendment said "fifteenth day of March". mfw Americans used to use the superior British date system: day first, month second, year last.

dont think ff9 was changed

I wasn't being serious.

Question:

Why is this thread in General? Surely this is a Reverse Engineering topic?

And I'm now absolutely terrified. Terence Fergusson's Game Mechanics dox are like Holy Scripture 'round these parts. All of our work is based on his teachings. If they're wrong, we're all in trouble.
