General Discussion / Re: Real Life believes

I'm a pantheist, not an atheist. (there is a difference)

That's very true.  Atheism is the void of any god, while pantheism encompasses the universe/nature into one... well you don't believe in deities so whatever the hell you wanna call it.  So why get so upset about something as natural as having sex?  I can understand if one has personal disgust towards certain sexual practices, whether it's multiple partners or something way out there, because it's your prerogative.

Quote from: Dias Flac
Uugh..  I've had enough of this.  Maybe I'm becoming so powerful that I'm taking a whole new route in evolution!!!!!!!!!
whoooooooohoooooooo!!!!!!

That doesn't mean you can preach against it as a pious "evolved" individual.  You seem to take the worst case scenario for every situation.  Even with one partner and using a condom, "the condom can break", come on.  It has never been safer to have sex, it's not always practiced, but that is your responsibility.

Quote from: Dias Flac
Of course women have these sexual fantasies because their men or partners have already presented them with sex, so they are bound to end up thinking about doing more explicit things in sex.  They are trained by their partners to want more and more sex.  And there is always the possibility of their partner having sex with someone else, think of what that could lead to: STD's, rape, and possibly death!  Maybe men should actually try and do what I had said to do to make love, who knows it might be much more romantic and passionate, and you might learn something about your partner, rather than having your woman get penetrated by two different guys.

Trained by their partners to want more sex?  Don't you think the desire for sex is natural?  I figured if anyone understood this, it would be a pantheist like yourself.

Quote from: Dias Flac
and all these different sexual positions, like anal sex!!!!!  Seriously, do you really want faeces on your penis???

Variety is the spice of life my friend.  Sex is great, so why not switch things up and possibly, OH NOES!! try other positions?  Or I guess we could keep our flannel pajamas on, lights off, eyes closed, completely silent, and exposing our "sin parts" through our pajama's front button.  How do expect to show this "romance" you speak of without some expression or variety?  You're lady/man is gonna get bored eventually.

Quote from: Dias Flac
The perfect age of consent should really be somewhere in between 25 - 30.

Yes, this makes perfect sense.  Cutting the average woman's fertility window by 50% makes perfect sense.  Considering any pregnancy with the mother 35 years or over is categorized as high risk.  We can have record stillborns because your not comfortable yet with having sex, brilliant!

Quote from: Dias Flac
And my point is that MODERN sex is stupid.  Sex wouldn't have gotten to where its at now if so many people hadn't taken it the wrong way.

So how far are we going back?  Because sex was never civilized.  The idea of monogamy between humans only came about through sexual dimorphism.
  • Man had sex with woman (not always romantic, large males had complete sexual control over females)
  • Baby born (usually babies were small)
  • Humans stayed in herds or clans to survive (and care for the small babies), men shared all the women until "family" units formed
Even today a husband and wife stay together to care for their young offspring.  A man is looked down upon for leaving the mother and little child out in the cold.  Love follows because your always with that person, and being nice just makes it easier on you.  :-P j/k

Quote from: Dias Flac
Oh yeah.  By the way.  I was just comparing my morals to some religious people I know or know of, not to every single person on the planet.  I'm obviously much cooler than Osama bin Laden or Saddam Huessen.  They can't even make their God appear to make them Final Fantasy VII mods!  hahahahaaa!!
  Sorry if I offended anyone!!!!!!!!!!!

It's hard to offend when most of your drivel doesn't make sense.  Which is why I think this could be a troll under our little bridge.

If the movies are too long then the events coded for the event after the movie will start anyway.  For example, I made a version of the opening movie that was longer than the original, but after the set time the bombing mission music began and overlapped with the video and sounded messy.  You can avoid this effect if you calculate the number of frames the original movie has, then match that with you new movie.  All FF7 movies default to 15fps, so you could make a replacement movie that is shorter, but increase its frames per second to match the total frames of the original.

Hope this helps!

/Side note/
Anyone have any success with h.264 encoding and FF7?  It looks great in full screen within Windows, but not in-game.  Any tweaks work for anyone?

78
1) 320x224
2) No
3) Depends, experiment with it.  I recently tried with h.264, but the colors rendered in-game were limited, while back in Windows it looked fine.  Indeo codec is alright, but I'm sure there is better.

The PSX videos do have a slightly better quality, so encoding those would be an improvement on its own.  I guess experiment and let us know what you come up with.

Archive / Re: K lite mega codec VERSUS Truemotion
« on: 2008-04-13 17:54:12 »
You can keep the K-Lite codec pack installed, here's what you have to do.

1) Install K-Lite codec pack
2) Install TrueMotion 2.0 Codec found HERE
3) Change settings for TM codec in ffdshow, "All Programs/K-Lite Codec Pack/Configuration/ffdshow video decoder"
4) Top left scroll bar select "Codecs"
5) Now use the right scroll bar and find "Truemothion 1,2", under the Decoder attribute select disabled.

This will disable the K-Lite codec support and then use the TrueMotion codec you downloaded instead.  The game should run fine then.

Edit:
Since you installed/uninstalled codecs a few times, you may need to use the "Codec Tweak Tool" to clean up the codecs "All Programs/K-Lite Codec Pack/Tools/Codec Tweak Tool"

weeemus.... wow, that looks great, kudos to you.

If you're talking about editing the Sephiroth and opening scene into the game, it's already been done.  I want to say Otokoshi was the one to edit them in, but I'm not positive.

Thanks obesebear, yup that little project was mine.

Quote from: weeemus
Search otokoshi's opening and sephiroth fmv mod. There should be a download to that xivd codec.

I used to link to the Xvid version, but I got way too many emails about how to use them in game.  Apparently reading and following the instructions given to them is hard for people on the int3rnets.  So I eventually just linked the Indeo encoded video files.  I believe you can still find the ones I encoded in Xvid if you browse my FileFront files, should be under videos/xvid or something like that.  If anyone really needs them I'll upload again.

Quote from: weeemus
After that. Download virtualdub i think it was. Resize the video clip w 320 h 224 somewhere like that. Save the clip and use some xvid codec... Search otokoshi's opening and sephiroth fmv mod. There should be a download to that xivd codec.

Heres a idea for you if you end up just ripping from games. Use the CC special ending Where cloud goes to midgar as the opening fmv.

That is a great idea.  There is some boundaries you must stay within.  FF7 has a strange frame counter, so it counts the frames of the designated video and once it reaches it, the game will continue the gameplay with the midi music and whatnot.  As long as your video calculates to the same frame count as the original you are replacing, there shouldn't be a problem.  For example, all the default videos run at 15fps, and the opening video is 1m 59s roughly.  As long as your video replacing it meets the 1785 frames, there shouldn't be a problem.  One trick is to make a shorter length video then the one you are replacing and increase its fps.  I've done this with a new opening video and it worked with great results.

Quote from: Swampthing15
im sorry, i was using them as an example, im a little tired and that didnt come out in what i typed...lol but thx for linking them i didnt know he had them posted on here...i found them somewhere else

Wow, really?  I'd be interested to know where else this little video has traveled.  :-D

Quote from: Swampthing15
but ill let you know what software im going to use, im thinking right now that ill be able to use Adobe After Effects CS3 and the macromedia studio 8 stuff ive got...

That will definitely be more than enough.  I used VirtualDub and some image editor for my projects.  I was tempted to use some postprocessing, but with the color depth and size limitations, I figured it wouldn't show in the final product.

I wish either of you the best if you choose to recreate some of the fmvs.  I'm not positive about the legality, but I'm sure there are ways around it.  There are sites that openly offer all the fmvs and audio for just about every square/enix game.  They offer a disclaimer that only those that own the content may download.  I wouldn't bet the forum would host the patch, but one could post the web address, not link to said web address, where others can download off another host.

Completely Unrelated / Re: The end of emulation?
« on: 2008-01-18 23:40:01 »
Some excellent points brought up thus far.  Handheld gaming does seem to have a quicker turnaround in the emulation scene than the home consoles.  I don't see this changing much because the market for handheld gaming is huge.  I think the console generation following the current one will be even more cross platform than the current one.  All the developers/publishers see the profits from releasing their games to every major console, and allowing one to pay a premium for a timed exclusive release.  I believe the next consoles will push for online distribution.

The PC folks would benefit from this.  The consoles could have their exclusive release, then after some time, release it for the PC.  The system would most certainly require the game to "phone home" before each start, but that's the secret to Valve's Steam success.  It just makes more sense that major consoles should make it easy for developers to develop for their hardware platform.  If developers could code using traditional code, ie C++ or .NET, then give them tools similar to Microsoft's XNA to make an easy port then... well it would just make sense.  Consoles are becoming more like PCs and more complicated.  The PS3 is suffering because the big titles are still delayed.  Sony does not want more delays like this when their next console launches.

In short, you'll never see Mario on your PC, unless to emulate that console.  Third-party developers I think will not pass up an opportunity for more sales across multiple platforms, as long as it's locked down to squash pirating.

I couldn't find how to do something like that in goggle, thats why I decided to ask in this forum.

Found this in two seconds, using Google, prior to my first post. Multiple CDs One DVD

I know that this does not relate to your PSX merge, but not every question is answered, and everything isn't going to be spoon fed to you either.  Sometimes you have to research.

Quote from: Alan-R
In witch crazy world goggle has the "answer to life the universe and everything" and it doesn't say how to merge 3 PSX Cd's in a PS2 DVD.

Apparently the answer is 42.  I never claimed all the "universe and everything" answers were explained.  I just figured people that wished to learn something might want to do some independent study before asking for handouts.  And when someone politely tells them the current state of modding, they not be an asshat about it.

The NPC project is really great, but is for PC version and I want to do that with the PSX version

Quote from: Otokoshi
That's already being done by some great folks here.

NPC Reconstruction Project

This is done with the PC version.  New player models have not been added to the PSX version yet.

Didn't you want to know if this was possible?  All I stated was that the PC version had been done, but not the console version.  What point are you trying to make, the one I already stated?

Quote from: Otokoshi
The PC version can play any video file that you have a codec for.  Plenty of people have done work with enhancing the videos for FF7, like here for example.

Quote from: Alan-R
By the way your videos are cool. Unfortunately they are for the PC version too.

Really?!  I was not aware of that... oh wait... I guess I was.  Because I already said that.

Quote from: Alan-R
(The little son of a b*** of my brother split the CD in half *sniff*) so So Ive download the 1st CD but my PS2 doesn't read it. (I think that downloading the CD when you actually bought one is not illegal right?)

Your sentiment towards your brother is touching.  I don't know why he would ever break your CD.  So if I broke a DVD movie, I can walk into my local movie store and grab another copy off the shelf without paying right?  I don't think so, and the forum doesn't assist software pirates, sorry.  And from the looks of it, you need some serious assistance.

I know Ossott said no MMOs, but I though this one was worth mentioning.  Granado Espada is a fantasy MMO with a very similar style to the Final Fantasy series.  The player controls a party of three characters, making combat very similar to FF games.  Personally I think the clothes are a little funky, but seem pretty close to the styles of recent Final Fantasy games.  I know if all I saw in a preview was this , I would think it was the next FF.  The game has switched to a free-to-play model in all markets now.  I know it's still an MMO, but you could always ignore the folks online.  :-D

First off, welcome to the forums.  This certainly seems like an ambitious project.  There's probably a few things you should know before getting started.

Quote from: Alan-R
The thing I want to do if possible are
*First of all make it work all in one DVD, I have an idea, but I don't know if the LBAs are relevant if they are I'm screwed. Besides I DK if putting the 3 main files in the root will make it work or if I will have to make 1 larger file from those 3 (That will be a problem) . (I'm going to try tomorrow as soon as I get a DVD+R and post the results)

This method worked with older PC titles that used simple InstallShield to install the game.  A console game CD would be a little more tricky.  I'd search around before sacrificing a DVD, remember Google is your friend.

Quote from: Alan-R
*Change the squared superdeformed graphics, by for example a more detailed one like the models of the battles.

That's already being done by some great folks here.

NPC Reconstruction Project

This is done with the PC version.  New player models have not been added to the PSX version yet.

Quote from: Alan-R
*Change the movies by newer, better animated ones, like i.e. the intro for the tactical PS3 demo (Ive heard that the movies for PSX are actually AVIs  is that truth)

Well they are not simply .avi files.  You would need programs such as PSmplay or PSX Movie Player to view the .str, .mov, and .iki files.  The PC version can play any video file that you have a codec for.  Plenty of people have done work with enhancing the videos for FF7, like here for example.  Currently, FF7 videos must be at 320x224 resolution at 15 frames per second.  It should also be the same length as the video you are replacing, or the music timings will be off.  You can circumvent this by increasing or decreasing your fps in your new video to match the same amount of total frames of the video you are replacing.

Quote from: Alan-R
*Change the default songs  by newer ones (the orchestra ones)

This has also been done for the PC version.  You can find the sticky tutorial for Ficedula's FF7 Music here.  You can replace it with whatever music you like, of course any FF soundtrack works the best.

I don't mean to post all of this to discourage you.  Like I said, you have very ambitious goals.  Many people here have done great things with the game.  With enough patience and working at these a step at a time, you could be the one with the next big innovation.

Are you using the "play movies from your hard drive trick" or just running them from the cd?

94
That certainly would be a helpful and obvious tool for Windows.  The fact System Restore dates back to WinME and Microsoft still hasn't implemented this doesn't surprise me.  Restore points are saved in under x:\system volume information\_restore{558C94FD-3C7F-4954-A02D-26679E6D849E}.  Each restore point's files are saved in a folder named RPXX where XX is a two digit number corresponding to the restore point.  Could one manually delete these files and keep older restore points?  I'm not sure, as I haven't used System Restore in such a long time.

I tried for some time with changing the background to match my opening video, using Meteor.  Frankly, I'm not a l33t hax0r and FF7 is stubborn.  One piece of advice I can give.  FF7 counts the frames of the video, so if your video is shorter than the original you can increase the frames per second for your new video.  I made the intro using the entire tech demo, which is considerably shorter than the original.  I increased the fps to over 23 from the original 15 and the video ran smoother and synced up perfectly.

The whole consistency thing is strange, isn't it?  Some of the FMVs have "lego Cloud" and others have high quality characters.  I like the idea for your new opening video, looking forward to seeing it soon.

We could say the same about turn based RPGs, but I wouldn't.  I've always felt that the Final Fantasy series did a much better job than the impersonators out there.  The spells and the way you could counteract them always made for interesting strategy.  I feel that Square's Final Fantasy and Enix's Dragon Quest series always were ahead of the competition when it came to gameplay.

(Steam, Evaporate into Wind ( clouds ) = Rain.

Hmmm... something doesn't add up.  :-D  Interesting topic though, I do like the turn based RPG though.  Now that the Final Fantasy series has switched over, it just feels like any other RPG out there.  The characters need to have their gender identity back.  The men look too feminine.  That's just my opinion of course.  The only fact is that FFXI sucked.
