General Discussion / Re: Real Life believes
« on: 2008-04-13 12:19:13 »
It's not like humans won't do anything to stop that from happening tho (if it's even REAL, and not just a exaggeration...).

You know, we'll send Bruce Willis or something...

You misunderstood my question, it was about why they didn't use more realistic 3D models for the original game, not the PC version.  Obviously they weren't going to redo the game with better models for the PC, they just ported it with crappy midis.

Its more about why they didn't just make it prettier for the Playstation.

Well, in that case, I guess it's because they didn't want to make high-reso models of every NPC in the game to save time and effort, since FF7 was already scrapped once and started again for the PS. Probably didn't want to delay the game even longer.

Two reasons, I guess :
1- The game is VERY FREAKIN OLD, back then not every PC could have supported those things. Square didn't want to take chances and simply went with what they knew PCs would support.
2- Square wasn't expecting huge sales from FF7 on PC, they simply ported it in its original state. They weren't gonna spend more money on the game than they expected to get back from selling it.

Tried with CD1 one in physical drive, crashed the same way (strangely enough).
English/US version. On Window XP SP2.
Use V1.02 patch to start it (Nvidia) and then Chocobo patch.
MGP (Bike/Snowboard) to help with speed, but not necessary.

(replacing the char.lg works perfectly fine tho, no crash for now)

5
I tried installing the game and not installing anything else, the same thing seem to happen. (can open menu on the world map, cannot open it in a town/cannot change area in a town).
Games installed at C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\ (patch at data\ffprp)
Using backup of the physical CD (Iso).

6
Using v1.02, chocobo patch and mgp (Bike and Snowboard frame limiter) I don't get the "cloud falling on his back all the time" bug anymore, but everything else still happen.
(I had those before applying MGP too, I only installed it today, a few hours before the new PRP version)

So :
Opening the menu still crash (at least for me)
Entering a town doesn't, but entering a new area in it crash the game (something reported by other people previously I think)

(if the images are too big, I'll post the links only)

Sometime (well, with Winrar) you can just right-click the file and choose from the menu between three options, Extract ... (you choose where to), Extract Here (in the folder where the file is located) and Extract to *name of the file*, which is basically Extract Here except that the program will create a new folder to extract the file to.

Using only the original game with 1.02 patch + chocobo patch (can't make high-res work, it patches the exe just fine and say it made it, but bugs when using it) :
The patch gave me a error message when installing (asked me where the installer was, it was already pointed to it tho) but pressing Ok simply made it continue (the "browsing" space was already pointing to the installer anyway), after that it finished without any hitch.

Starting the game with the FF7prp.exe works fine, I can enter the game and see the new models, but as has already been said, it seems to crash if you open the menu. I'm not using any other mods atm except the two necessary patches (mentioned earlier).
US version of the game. Window XP32bits.

(it's the same result whether or not I use Hardware Accel or Software Renderer)

@Salk : It replaces models with better ones.

When playing the game, it randomly freezes... Anyone has any idea why? I remember playing on the same computer the game before without any hitch. I'm only using patch 1.02 and chocobo patch, nothing else (for now).
(I think I could play with the H-Res patch too, but I got enough problems making it work with only those two =/ )

The freezes happen at anytime. First it was when I first meet Aeris after blowing a reactor, after that it was at the bar. What really bother me is that it's not a area in specific, it's just random.
Window XP 32 bits. Latest Nvidia driver (I can try olders, I'm just not sure if that will be a good solution since I play other games too, who won't benefit from something like that...)

(I'm wondering if it's because of a patch that it happens, if it's not should I post it in support instead? I tried reading other threads who talk about freezes in FFVII, but the problems don't feel similar to mine, I'll still try very old drivers see if anything happen)

Edit : Well, hours later (or the next day) I think I managed to find something that was conflicting with the game. (not sure... But I think so) and using few months old drivers must be helping. (163.75)
Seems to be working not too bad with only necessary patches installed.
Can't get His-res to work tho (it does patch the exe, the patcher say it recognize the size/crc and that it patches it. But when I start the game, even tho it works without glitch in 1.02, it doesn't even start with Hi-res. It starts the game and close it right after without error message). Doesn't matter too much tho, as long as I get to make the work game normally I can be happy.

Guess my post ended up useless (and possibly in the wrong section of the forum... Sorry x_x).

I had the same thing happen to me, using the nvidia fix and whatever didnt work.

Only way to make the game run was to use Software renderer, I think it's because of the latest Nvidia drivers, because I played the game months ago, and another time a year ago before that, and at those times I never had that problem.

I would use hardware and either TNT or Riva and it would work, but now if I use those, I get the mosaic effect with the grid lines being green/something like that, using software rendering everything works perfectly fine.

Something else : Can't run the High-Res patch because of this, using the High-Res patch with this bug actually makes the game crash when a fight occur.

Could there be a clearly explained step-by-step guide for dummies like me? :o
(and now I edit the rest as my idea would either give weird result in higher resolution, or need to be painfully handmade)
