FF7 issues (Minigame, reg)
« on: 2011-07-19 04:28:50 »
I have the 1.02 official patch installed and Aali's lastest drivers, but the minigames are still too fast to be playable.  Both patches are installed correctly as far as I know, but I'll just post the app.log and opengl settings anyway. I need some help finding out the problem and the solution for this and the next one.

## USER OPTIONS ##
## If you just want to play the game, these are the only options you'll want to change.

# set the window size (or fullscreen resolution) of FF7
# 0 means use original resolution (whatever ff7.exe provides)
# preserve_aspect adds black borders as needed to preserve a 4:3 aspect ratio
window_size_x = 0
window_size_y = 0
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = yes

# mod directory
# subdirectroy of mods/ where textures will be loaded from
# does not affect the old external textures feature, those should still go in textures/
mod_path = none

# check your driver settings if this option doesn't seem to work
enable_vsync = yes

# limit snowboard, coaster and highway minigames to refresh rate / 2, i.e. 30fps for a 60hz display mode
# vsync must be enabled and working for this to have any effect
minigame_framelimiter = on

# same thing, but for the battle swirl
battleswirl_framelimiter = yes

# allow FF7 to use linear filtering for its textures
# some things look slightly better with this option on, but alot of textures just lose their detail
linear_filter = off

# plugin used to play music, the FF7Music plugin MUST be enabled for FF7Music to work.
# If no music plugin is loaded the game will play MIDI as usual but FF7Music will NOT work.
#music_plugin = plugins/ff7music.fgp

## ENHANCEMENTS ##
## All the little extras that weren't part of the original game, default options include only trivial bug fixes.

# make all dialog boxes transparent, same effect as the transparent dialog boxes YAMP patch
transparent_dialogs = off

# allow max hp/mp to go over 9999, same effect as the YAMP patch by dziugo
break_9999limit = no

# include armor in magic defense calculation
mdef_fix = yes

# expand battle viewport to cover entire screen and make the battle menu transparent
new_battle_interface = off

# post-processing shader, used to apply fullscreen effects
post_source = shaders/bloom2.post
enable_postprocessing = no

## ADVANCED OPTIONS ##
## Don't fiddle with these unless you know what you're doing.

# use shaders, if available and supported
# turn shaders off to use the OpenGL 1.1 backend
use_shaders = yes

# prevent glitches due to rounding errors by rendering in the nearest (larger, if supported)
# multiple of the original resolution and up/down-scaling
prevent_rounding_errors = yes

# enable alpha blending for textures without an existing blending effect
fancy_transparency = on

# display frames per second counter in upper right corner
show_fps = no

# display some real-time debug information
show_stats = no

# store external textures in a compressed cache for increased performance
# compression is not lossless, some artifacts may appear when this option is in use
# texture cache does NOT update automatically if the source image changes, however, deleting anything from the cache
# will cause that file to be recreated from the source
compress_textures = yes

# use pixel buffer objects to speed up texture loading
# will probably crash horribly on ATI cards but should work for NVIDIA users
use_pbo = no

# replace FF7's default framelimiter timer source
use_new_timer = yes

# use a more stable (but less accurate) timer to control FF7's framelimiter
# this option has no effect unless the use_new_timer option is on
use_stable_timer = no

# plugin used to play movies, FFMpeg is the only choice for now
movie_plugin = plugins/ffmpeg_movies.fgp

## MODDER OPTIONS ##
## These options are mostly useful to modders and should not be enabled during normal play.

# read files directly instead of using LGP archives
# for example; if FF7 is looking for aaab.rsd in char.lgp, this option will make it open direct/char/aaab.rsd first,
# if this file doesn't exist it will look for the original in the LGP archive
direct_mode = off

# show every failed attempt at loading a .png texture
show_missing_textures = no

In addition, I have tried looking in the correct spot to edit my registries so I could play the movies from my HDD, but the registries aren't there. There is no Square Soft, Inc. folder to have the FF7 registries in it. Windows 7, by the way.

Code: [Select]
GLITCH: Vsync seems to be forced ON, minigame framelimiter will not work
^ This might be the problem. Make sure your ATI/Nvidia driver's V-Sync is set to something like "Use the 3D Application setting" and not "Force on". And make sure that ff7_opengl.cfg in your game directory has the options below checked:

Code: [Select]
# check your driver settings if this option doesn't seem to work
enable_vsync = yes

# limit snowboard, coaster and highway minigames to refresh rate / 2, i.e. 30fps for a 60hz display mode
# vsync must be enabled and working for this to have any effect
minigame_framelimiter = on

For the movie settings in W7 64-bit, the registry is located here
Code: [Select]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII

Any idea where I could find the driver settings for an Intel graphics chipset? I'm used to Nvidia, I can't find a V-sync option that's forced on here.

I'm not too familiar with Intel graphics driver unfortunately.

Some googling did lead me to believe that you need  to change a certain setting: Graphics Control Panel -> 3D Graphics

Yeah, I tried messing with that setting (Asynchronous Flip) last night to no result. It seems the issue is that I am limited to either forcing it on or off, and no in-between. Regardless, neither work right now. I'm going to try updating my driver to a version that shouldn't be fully compatible just to see if it works.

Well, it won't even let me update the drivers. I guess I'm out of luck then. I might have to use my PSX version  :( Or I might try it on my other computer with Vista and an actual video card I can work with, see how that goes.

I would turn Async flip off.

Did you change V-Sync to on in ff7_opengl.cfg?

I just realized I posted the app.log twice. Sorry, my opengl settings are in the second box now. I tried Asynch both off and on (off default) to no result, and my opengl settings are fine as far as I can tell. Thanks for your help, though. I think this topic is pretty much done unless someone comes up with a magical answer. I'm just going to put it on my other computer.

I think, Aali has the answer

Quote
refresh rate / 2, i.e. 30fps for a 60hz display mode

Probably you are playing with 100Hz, turn your monitor down to 60Hz.

greeting Kompass63

And how can I insert an image?

Aali

App.log clearly indicates that the driver wasn't able to set the desired "refresh rate / 2" speed. Its still going at it at full refresh rate, thats the problem.

dear Aali
 Apologies, I thought you had understood my message.  http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11992.msg167578#msg167578

Quote
GLITCH: Vsync seems to be forced ON, battle swirl framelimiter will not work

Only the message is a false message, the frame limiter is working properly.
 Also, the message appears only on the first event, not after that.

I've seen your message. Its not relevant here. Yours is an ATI card, this is an intel card. From what I can tell from the OP, the framelimiter is indeed not working at all for him.
