Save File Suddenly Not Recognized
« on: 2025-01-25 02:16:56 »
I have the Steam version of FF7 and used 7th Heaven from the beginning to mod and play it.  It's been perfect this whole time but, I took a 3 month break and when I tried to launch the game today, the console seemed to have some messages in it that I don't remember seeing before.  My save files were not recognized and it wanted to start a new game.  I went to General Settings and saw that the FF7 exe path was set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\ff7_en.exe which is not normal.  I changed it back to the original path which is C:\Games\Final Fantasy VII\ff7_en.exe and launched the game again.  The intro to FF7 was slightly different this time but, still my saved games are not recognized.  Any suggestions?  Thanks a bunch!  Also, here's the console data:

ok, after trying several things, I've come to realize that 7th Heaven version 4.2.0.0 does not respect the folder paths that I have set in General Settings...so it basically just refers to the original Steam game files and ignores all mods / save games.  Went back to version 3.5.1.0 and everything is perfect.  I'm not sure what to do because obviously I cannot use the old version forever.

I also posted in the Qhimm Discord by the way -- not trying to create double effort. I've never had a problem with the app so I've never had to reach out for support before and did not know the best place to ask.

Thank you for any help or suggestions

Ok fixed now.  The older version of 7th Heaven suggested creating a different location different from the Steam version of the game.  I did this.   Now that the 4.2.0 is out, it only wanted to look at the Steam version's default locations for the game / mods.  I deleted the Steam version and pointed my 4.2.0  General Settings paths to the copy created by the old 7th Heaven installer which had all of my saved games and mods...but it came back with an error saying it was a converted game and it suggested that I reinstall fresh from Steam and launch 7th Heaven 4.2 again.  So, I did exactly that...then I moved my mods and saved games to the default locations preferred by the Steam version of the game and everything started working normally.

Hope that makes sense and helps others (or maybe I'm just late the party).  Thanks!
