Troubleshooting / FFVII laptop problem
« on: 2005-05-13 13:07:34 »
Here's what I did on my laptop:

I first installed the "ff7 input patch" (If you don't have it download it from google) to same directory ff7.exe was in (This is essential becase laptops dont have num keypad).  Then I hooked in a gamecontroller (Joysticks work too) via usb (pin sockets work too). You may have to borrow one, etc. The game automatically detects the controller and it works sweet. I used the gamecontroller to set my keyboard to the keys I wanted.  Now I don't need the GC anymore!

If you don't have a gamecontroller of some type Install ff7 to a PC with a numpad.  Install the ff7 input patch, and set the keys to something other than the numpad.  Then using a flash drive/disc transfer ff7input configeration file (ff7input.cfg or something) and overwrite the one on your laptop with it.

Happy playing

I actually bought a PS2 like gamecontroller so that when I play, the joystick controls cloud, L and R rotate the camera respctavly on the world map, etc.  I find it much funner than my keypad.

« on: 2005-05-13 02:24:19 »
Um... did you check if someone have already posted about this?  go to search and type cosmo.  BTW Sapphire is a great program for editting the text.  Try these articles:

http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4129
http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4109

Also make sure you have the latest version of COSMO and save the uncorrupted  flevel on the install disc to a location.  Edit it.  Make sure you set the Compressor in COSMO  to "Qhimm's" before saving. Save before opening another level and besure to replace the old flevel with your modyfied flevel.

Sure thing! I've practically devoted my entire schoolyear making FF7 swear-word free and with sapphire, it should be done by tommorow  :D .

Its not so much programming as it is using programs that are already made.

First off: If you go into the f77 install disc (explorer) under data --> field --> flevel.lgp (lgp is a type of file archive meaning it really has 700 files or so of all the levels in the game compressed into one 128 mb file) and make a copy (to your desktop maybe)  you can then either

a) open flevel with COSMO

or

b) decompress the lgp by getting an lgp extractor (google) &/or converting the files to txt format with sapphire.

Once you have *fixed* the in-fame text, just reburn a new install disc with the modified flevel instead of the original and do a full installation, or if you already have full install, drag it into the field folder. (Or you reburn the three discs with new flevel if you didn't do the full)

If you have any other questions just write

Well, you can

A) Copy flevel.lgp from the disc, edit the text in it, and reburn the disk

or

B) Do the "full installation" on your hard drive and edit flevel.lgp.

To "edit flevel.lgp" get M4v3R's sapphire[weapon] from
http://underlab.pl/divide/mav/Sapphire.zip

or with ficedula's COSMO:
http://ficedula.warwickcompsoc.co.uk/f2k3/programs/cosmo/cosmo095c.zip

Its cool, you can do anything you want to the ingame text.

« on: 2005-05-09 17:17:41 »
To anyone who has used Sapphire (M4v3R's text editor) :
For some reason, when I press Open LGP Archive and try to open flevel.lgp, it says:

Access violation at address 00472C62 in module "Sapphire.exe" Read of address 000002F8.   :(

What do I need to do, to get this to work?

How can I fix this? Also when I save it to a txt and chage it there, how do I then turn all the files back into flevel?

Does anyone have an faq or help file?
Thanks, RPGillespie

Um, I don't know assembly very well, but if you don't get any useful replies, you should post your topic here:

The site is full of "hackers" (and wannabes) who are extremly good at programing, etc. and they may be able to help you!
Good Luck!

Hmm isn't the UK version already censored like that? At least the version I have is. :P

Does anyone know which version this is :-? ?  If the UK one is unsensored like the USA one, which one is this? Is there is censored version? Oh well, got to go.

« on: 2005-05-06 13:19:34 »
Yeah, unless you have good video editting software, it would be really hard. (to make it look good). Plus, its going to be upsidedown and backwards with most software so that makes it even trickier. Oh, well the video only lasts like 5 seconds and I don't think it matters too much. Any way REUNION! YOU ROCK! Keep up the good work... :)

So what is the difference between the UK and American versions? They're both in English right? Are there any major changes? How  much of the American version was censored in the UK version?

Hello!
I was just wondering:
how do you tell the difference between the UK, USA, JAPAN, etc. versions of FF7?  Do the discs look different? By the way, is the UK version rated E? I mean how much cussing/wall market material does it have in it? Thanks

Sorry for the double post but...
Obviously I have to buy a whole new UK version of FF7 if I want hta, but I guess what my real question is:

Is it just me, or does my Search and Replace tool on COSMO not work?
Thanks

So, could I get a patch for UK, or would I have to buy a whole new version?
I guess I'll try looking around...

Someone else already wrote a topic on this. goto "search" on qhimm's forums and type cosmo.

Um this has been discussed like a million times but you open cosmo, it will open up off the screen.  press alt+f, left, down to "move" and press enter.  Then hit the left arrow key rapidly until it appears to the right side of your monitor.

Alright boyz, here's the scoop:

My poor, destitute cousin is not allowed to play video games with cussing. No acceptions.  So, when I gave him FF7, he was crestfallen that he could no longer play such an awesome game (his mom found out).  Being the curious programmer that I am, I though to myself, hey, why can't I just edit the text with a hex editor or something, right?  So I asked around at forums.hackthissite.org but, even though everyone thinks they are a hacker there, they are all noobs who suck. So I was looking around in the different data files, with XVI32 but couldn't find anything.  Thats when I found this site (by accident) and got ahold of lgp extractors, etc. and.... COSMO (in-game text editor).  Now you are probably thinking (way ahead of you buddy, just press alt+f,left, enter on "move" and hold left) but you are wrong!  COSMO works wonderfully and I can successfully edit the text.  Now here's where efficiency comes in.  There are like 800 files that I have to root through searching for damn, hell, etc.  and for some reason, some flevel files have the same text in them, and in order for it to work, I have to edit all of them for it to take effect.

Q1.  Do I really have to edit all of them or just one?

Alright, anyways, then I saw the Search/Replace "tool" and though "Sweet, now I can just put * for the files to search type damn for search and dang for replace" and press scan.   BUT GUESS WHAT???  All that happened was a little message saying "Initialising" (ficedula, it's spelled Initializing in case you didn't know, but I've already changed it in the source for myself" And what the gay? nothing happens, I don't think, I haven't waited longer than 10 - minutes.

Q2. Is is broken? If so how can I fix it?

Now at this very moment I will type my third, and most important section. (Sorry that I blab so much, Its just that I hate it when people talk like this (like at hackthissite):

I m a no0b can uhelp me i need help cause iam ano0b?
or
][ /-\ /\/\ /-\ |\|()()|3...
)

OK... *deep breath* *cracks fingers*,  Say I completely change flevel so it is cussword free.  flevel is like 128 mbs before you mess with it and I don't want to have to burn a new ff7 install CD with the modifyed flevel.  My friend at school said something about a patch... and how it is just a file that tells the computer the differences between file1 and file2.  Is it possible to make a swearword patch? Can anyone point me in the right direction?  I know C++ and VB.

Thank you, This forum ROCKS!!!  It took me a month of uselessly trying to hex-edit lgp file before I found it...

Well thank you... All help is appreciated... Sorry for the lengthy post... heh heh

I LOVE, NOT HATE, LOVE
