When using the Nightmare Conversion, you can't use any other modifications.
Don't turn on the 9999 limit break patch.
Don't change the soundtrack.  Nightmare comes with its own soundtrack.
Make sure you have all of the necessary Nightmare files.  The soundtrack is a separate download.
The final release of Bootleg will better implement the Nightmare Conversion.

Looks like his pelvis is sitting back a bit far on his legs.
Was that intentional to make his collar sit farther in front of his face?
Or maybe he is just flexing to show his abs.

No music on the first train platform is a known issue.  The music will start after the first battle or when Cloud enters the next scene.
You can use Black Chocobo to edit save games.
In order to make this work before the first battle, you'll also need to enable the Save Anywhere function.

If you're not able to retrieve data off the drive directly, you can open the drive and use special equipment that can read data off the platters.  It's not cheap.

A quick search shows the cost is between $199 and $499.

I've found that a repair like that is only postponing the inevitable.
Fixing a symptom probably won't fix the root cause of the problem.
It's probably better to opt for recovering the data and then just replace the whole drive.

You need to adjust the registry entry for the data drive so that it points to the drive letter of the thumb stick named "FF7DISC1."

Releases / Re: New RedXIII model

You must use a legitimate version of FF7: either the 3 CD-ROM version or the 2012 ReRelease download version.
The Ultima version is not supported.

If you're just installing the Red XIII model, there is no reason for a modified flevel.lgp.

Change the setting to:
    mod_path = bootleg

If you first installed Menu Overhaul with Bootleg, then all the necessary files should already exist in the bootleg mod path.

Installing Menu Overhaul changes your mods path.
You'll need to copy the \mods\DK\ files into your old mods path.
Then change the mods path in ff7_opengl.cfg.

The twitter link to flevel.rar is down.

Is there any way to play the mod with the slim flevel?
I couldn't move beyond the screen that notified me of the download link for the full flevel.
The text just kept repeating with no way to exit.

Aerith Revival and Hardcore are compatible.
There are a very few field scenes where Aerith won't show up, but she is still available for use in the party.

There was an error in Bootloader .0039 that could cause an error is certain values in ff7_opengl.cfg were absent of invalid.
The problem shouldn't occur with .040.

I corrected most of the issues you identified.  The final version of .040 will properly convert the new to old and automatically enable the any cd loader.

Thanks for all the debugging!
I'll have RC2 up soon.  Hopefully a full release is soon to follow.

I fixed the bug with the Remix Remastered lookup table.
I hope that's the last bug with the modes.
I try to test them all, but there are so many combinations!

Currently there are some slight problems when translating the English game to German.
Some of the German text is too long for the English FF7.exe.
DLPB halted his work on a German translation for the Menu Overhaul project.
Bootleg contains a partial translation, but lacks the battle text.

I've done very little testing with inserting translated text into the English game.

I have Bootleg .040RC2 ready.  Should I continue with the testing or release this thang?

Make sure your mods path is set to BOOTLEG.

Did you install any mods after Bootleg?
Menu Overhaul and Avalanche change the mods path.

If you're using the 2012 ReRelease and Bootleg .039 or earlier, then you must first run the Kranmer New to Old patch:

Kranmer's New to Old Patch for FF7 2012

Then rename ff7_en.exe to ff7.exe.

Finally, run Bootleg.

Yes, if you use the Bootleg French translation, the game will have mostly French text with the exception of the battle menus and a couple of the FMV's.
Some mods are only available in English: Aeris Revival, Hardcore and Menu Overhaul ReTranslation.

Bootleg will convert the French version to the English version.
Then you can use all of the mods.
There's a way to  reinsert the French text into the converted English game, but it's not complete.
Some scenes and FMV's will still have English text.

The video card is just too weak.
It can't handle any of the texture mods.
It won't even work with some of the models.
You'll have to disable all of the field, battle, world and magic texture mods.

What video card is in your system?
You're using a generic video card driver.
You need to install an updated driver.

Are you using a save game that was created while the trainer was active?

Post your app.log.

What version of FF7 are you using: the CD-ROM version or the 2012 Rerelease download version?

Did you install on a vanilla FF7?
Where there any other modifications installed before or after Bootleg?

Did you enable the INVINCIBLE cheat in Menu Overhaul?

Are you using any difficulty mods?

Consoles serve somewhat of a purpose.
PC Developers create innovative new ideas.
Console developers, through endless iterations, refine those ideas for mass appeal.
The PC crowd uses those refined ideas as the basis for further innovations.
