Troubleshooting / Re: / instead of \ (missing textures)

Uncheck the option to show missing textures.

The tutorial at the beginning of this thread explains how to fix the blinking heads.
Many of the models don't implement blinking correctly.
The fix prevents them from blinking at all.

Are you talking about transparent parts of models during cut scenes?
That is an issue related to the model and is not easily fixed without rebuilding the whole model.

54
Where did you install the game?
Don't install to a system folder.
System folder such as Program Files and Desktop will not work.

Did you have a headset or some other sound device plugged in previously?

Q:Why is there no sound in the game?  Why is the music playing from a different sound device than the game sounds?
A:You need to configure the sound and/or MIDI device.
  Run .\FF7Config.exe as Administrator
In the SOUND tab, select the 'Sound Driver'
In the MIDI tab, select the 'MIDI Driver' and the 'MIDI Data'
Click OK to save the settings
  Open the Volume Mixer
Adjust the volume for the playback device, applications and FF7 executable

Please help.

Bootleg works with the 2012 ReRelease.

Bootleg 040 has a bug that prevents it from correctly installing on non-US CD-ROM versions of FF7.
This bug is fixed for a future release.
If anyone is willing to test the fix on a non-US CD-ROM version of FF7, please contact me.

59
An undo feature would require another 2GB to 9GB of disc space.
I really don't want Bootleg to require 50GB during installation!

I recommend creating an image of a fresh FF7 installation before running Bootleg.
Use the Create Image option found in the File menu of BFE.

Then you can set BFE to use the image every time you run Bootleg.
Bootleg will restore the fresh, vanilla image and then apply the mods while preserving the keyboard configuration and save games.

General Discussion / Re: Just bought FF7.. help please.

It should install again without a problem.
As long as you don't modify the registry, it remains activated.

Once you install the game, make a backup of the install folder.
It won't work on another computer or if you reinstall Windows, but it's a quick way to recover from a botched mod.

Releases / Re: Unshaded characters
« on: 2013-01-10 23:18:45 »
Heheh, looks like the air ship guy is taking a leak in the corner.

I'm working all of these new models into Bootleg.
I've incorporated your suggested flevel modifications as well.

You mention the lost_2 script but don't describe any changes.
Is lost_2 left unmodified?

Mods\BootlegCustomModels\Battle\Battle.lgp\ <- here I've put some of my battle model files
Mods\BootlegCustomModels\Field\Char.lgp\ <- here I've put some of my filed model files

There are no sub-folders within .\Battle\ or .\Field\
Copy the battle model files into .\BootlegCustomModels\Battle\
Copy the field model files into .\BootlegCustomModels\Field\

I've made some significant advancements with the language conversion process.
It should actually work now!
I've also improved the way Bootleg translates the ReRelease.

I've also changed the ReRelease conversion so that it now preserves the new flevel data unless Menu Overhaul ReTranslation is installed.
The new flevel has a few fixes.

Bootleg Questions / Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg
« on: 2013-01-07 21:34:40 »
Do you have the .NET framework correctly installed?

Q:Why does BFE.exe fail to run with the error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"?
A:You need to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22808
Or the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=22

From the app.log, it appears that your problem is with a broken 7 year old Tifa model.
The .TIM extension is just the way the engine internally references the .tex texture files.

You're definitely missing a few parts from the young Tifa field model.
Be careful when manually replacing this model.  Many of the young Tifa replacement models are incompatible with the PRP, Rebuilded and Dahfa models contained in Bootleg.

66
Bootleg .040 already includes the new to old patch.
Install the game and run Bootleg.

Both versions of FF7 are supported: the original 3 CD-ROM version and the 2012 ReRelease.

67
The most likely reason you're receiving all of those missing textures warnings is because you enabled the MISSING TEXTURES option in Bootloader.  The messages are generated when a texture isn't present in the mods folder.  The game uses the textures from the .lgp archive instead.  This is normal.

The sound patch will fail if you have anti-virus or malware scanning software enabled.

Troubleshooting / Re: Crash @ Fort Condor Mini Game
« on: 2013-01-06 02:08:37 »
Oops, the language version conversion of Bootleg 040 is broken.
I believe I've fixed it.
But I'll have to come up with some way to test it without actually having a foreign language version of the game.

69
The input was very helpful.
I've discovered the bug with the foreign language conversion.
It should work fairly well now that I've fixed it.
Meanwhile, use DLPB's converter to install Bootleg on foreign language versions of the game.

70
Run FF7Config.exe and set the correct sound device.
Post your app.log.

71
The shaders are designed for Radeon cards.

I'm happy it worked!
There are still some issues with foreign language versions of the game.
Hopefully I get enough feedback to resolve all the problems.

When you installed Bootleg .040, did you start with a clean, fresh install of FF7?
You have to delete all of the game files and start with a new installation.
Otherwise the language conversion won't work.

The process of converting a foreign language version of FF7 to the US version is still experimental.
I have no way of testing anything myself.
Everything you can find out and tell me is extremely helpful for making this thing work!

Q:I'm experiencing black screens, tearing, stuttering and out of memory errors.
A:Bootleg is not compatible with Intel graphics cards.  If you are using a laptop with a Radeon/NVidia card and an Intel CPU, the Intel GPU is most likely the default video card.
The game uses the default video card which is most likely the Intel GPU.
Check in the app.log to identify which GPU FF7 is using.
To force FF7 to run on the Radeon/NVidia GPU, go into the graphics settings and "add" the file/app, "FF7.exe," to run on the improved performance processor.

Also, make sure that you have the latest GPU drivers.

Do you see any videos?
Have you tried running in compatibility mode?  Use the Bootloader configuration.

Replace condor.lgp with the original vanilla version.

I don't have any way to test Bootleg on foreign language versions of FF7.
Thanks for the input.
You troubles will help me improve Bootleg!

75
Firefox23,
Make sure that you've correctly configured the GPU.
Post your app.log.
