I wasn't entirely sure which version, as the version i'm usually led to purchase via tutorial links are 40 - 50 pounds. Am I ok to buy this version ? will it work with bootleg?

Yes, it works.
But you'll need to "downgrade" this version to the "old" one with Kranmer's patch (see the bootleg tutorial thread).
This means you'll loose that useless re-release crap like Cloud/Internet Saves, etc.

Bootleg .040 already includes the new to old patch.
Install the game and run Bootleg.
Both versions of FF7 are supported: the original 3 CD-ROM version and the 2012 ReRelease.
