General Discussion / Work In Progress

It reminds me of that time when I tried to play Vincent's theme on guitar.  It was much easier said than done.  I still remember how to play it a little bit, but I doubt I can make it sound similar to the original tune.  I need a good microphone and haven't gotten around to get one.

General Discussion / My resignation
« on: 2003-08-16 02:17:12 »
Hey hey now, don't let a few people give you a sour taste after that thread.  You don't have to resign, or if you want to resign at least keep being a member.  I'm not here most all the time, and sometimes there are months when I don't come.  Take some time off, get your real life taken care off and hopefully some of the people here will grow up.

but I guess I have to wait for ff11 or ff12... the MMORPG

FFXI is the MMORPG, FFXII is NOT going to be online.  And yeah, I'm currently playing FFXI beta version (in PC of course, and in English not Japanese version). :D

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Blocking Port TCP 139

why can all the student's re-enable the service? They shouldnt have access to the Computer Management / Services console should they?

They have to, it's part of the "hand's-on" training.  So many of the administrative features have to be available.  Because of this, we have to re-image every single machine once a week.  It's not all in their control though, there are some features that they definately don't have access to.  For example stopping anti-virus programs is not possible for normal users.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Blocking Port TCP 139
« on: 2003-08-13 01:51:53 »
Well, here is the problem.  People in our school lab have been abusing the 'net send' command, making batch files to send a lot of spam to many computers.  This hasn't gotten out of hand,  but it can if we just let it go.  One temporary solution that we did was disabling the messanger service in all computers, but anyone can enable them again.  Plus it doesn't resolve the problem, it just hides it.  Anyways, I gave the suggestion of blocking the TCP 139 port.  However, we have a lot of applications and services that use TCP ports.  I wanted to know from you guys (from experience or knowledge) if TCP 139 is of any necessity.  We use Novell Netware to log-on to the network, and windows 2000/redhat 9.0.

General Discussion / Final Fantasy XI Trailer

I think I mentioned about the intro movie of FFXI.  It's LoTR: TT type of scene.  I'm trying to upload pics of the game, but I can't access my ftp account.

On CD's.

You can purely guess with the server emu topic came up.

What she was asking was, if you had the japanese version, then you should have known about the classes, magic, etc...

Anyways, I'm a thief right now, and I'm going to get a subclass of warrior.  I'll post some screenies this weekend, or whenever I find a function in the game to take screenshots.

Well, here is what I have to say after playing the game.  It improved so damn much.  The fighting is not as dull as when I played in E3.  And there is a lot more to do.  No freaking lag also.

Now, to get the game to play, it took me almost 4 hours.  Installation, download updates, register, and create the character.  But I guess it was worth it.  So far my views on FFXI did change, as it doesn't suck as it did 1 year ago.

My character's name is Valentine, and I'm a male Elven.  So whoever is playing, you can find me by that name.

oh?

It's getting interesting..
I thought of Ragnarok since I think VValentine posted with me about it so maybe since there is an emu I will check it out to see if I will like it.
No help finding nor the Beta Client, nor the emu..

Yeah, I remember posting stuff about it for you.  But now I don't play RO anymore.  Gravity turned it into crap.  Damn, I used to be so much into that game, I even volunteered to work with Gravity at E3.  Now they only disappoint me.  Hell, I still have some Gravity/E3 memorabilia lying around, might as well sell it since I need the money :z .  Oh and yeah, the AEGIS server is lying around everywhere.  I have an older version, I think I'll make a private server sometime later this year.

FF: Crystal Chronicals (I think that's what they're called) volume 1 & 2 both take place like 100 years or so after FFV.

Nope, FF: Crystal Chronicals is the game for the game cube.  The anime is called Final Fantasy: Legend of the crystals.

And besides Chocobos, you're not likely to find any characters you know. (Apparently there's a Chocobo in FF:TSW, but I've yet to see it... But the making of book has a picture of it, so....)

The chocobo appears in Aki's shirt only.

Lots of protein and weight training.  Lots and lots of protein. 60-80 grams a day maybe.  But you have to do heavy weight lifting.

You don't need fat ass for programming ... mine is skinny and it works out ... i'd like to gain some weight and i cannot. Prolly because of my metabolism.

=\  heh, I was skinny too and now I'm getting fat.  At least  you can gain it the right way.

BTW, I'm lazy too. VERY LAZY.

The problem is that you need programmers, and programmers are very very lazy by nature.  So you are going to have a tough time.

Who knows maybe I'll do something, a game server in c++, maybe, just maybe, but then again a lot of my projects have been thwarted by unexpected obstacles (bullsh*t, laziness that's what it is).  However, I would only use MySQL as a database manager.

It's been 11 days since I got my notification through email, but no package in my mail yet.  Anyways, I'm not really excited about it, I'll probably play it a few hours a week, I'm going to let my friends take turns in playing it.

Anyways, I applied for the PC version of course.  I wont be buying a PS2, I'll just wait until PS3 comes out.

I did, I almost forgot about it until I read a post about a guy saying that Square was notifying testers already, and then I check my email, and 'BING', there it is.

I should be receiving something in my mail in the next week or so.

General Discussion / I Need Help For A MMORPG
« on: 2003-05-27 02:53:36 »
Yeah, well, some people like to go to the extremes.  His idea wasn't offensive, but it sure isn't appealing.  FF7 has a story, and making it an MMORPG would make it steer off the story.  But having an MMORPG with similar style (as in the dark theme, limit breaks, characters, music, and so on) would be nice.

HAH!  Someone already beat you to it, but in any case you wouldn't have found it.

http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1901

Making an online version of FF7 would suck, but making an MMORPG similar in style and stuff would be awesome.  Good luck, it takes a shitload of time and dedication to make an MMORPG.  I'm in a game programming club, and our goal is to make an Online game, and we started planning and designing the game some months ago and we still can't get anything started in the development phase.  Only a few people know how to make 3D models, the rest of us are code monkeys.

Plus, projects like that would be better if you knew the team members and you actually lived close to them.  That is, if you want to get something done in less than 3 years *coughff7remakecough*

Is it gonna be like an MMORPG, That would be very cool if that's the case :)

Nah, it's not that cool.  The fighting action sucks, but then again, that was a year ago.  Who knows if they improved the game or not.

eeewww, Evercrap, I don't like Everquest, first of all the first person all 3D type of MMORPG isn't so appealing to me, second, staff that develop Everquest are elitist assholes, they think they're the shit (the good term of shit).  I play Ragnarok Online, it's a sweet game, with anime 2D sprites in a 3D environment.  Unfortunately, I can't say much good of it either, because it's having lots of problems with bugs (still on closed beta), and the community is filled with jerks, let alone it's constantly being attacked by ebil script kiddies.  Hopefully it will get better, I've been playing it for about a year now, so it's kinda hard to leave the game and the community.

MMORPGs are highly addictive, and can consume you to the very end if you take it too seriously.

You'll need more than a degree in Computer Science to do that to!

Well you could do well with a degree in Computer Science but you need to be good at various fields.  Programming, graphics programming, networking, database, and so on.  You'd need to be really knowledgeable in those fields.
