Troubleshooting / Re: BUG Save FFVIII PSX.
« on: 2013-01-07 09:17:45 »
I just took a look it and won't open in hyne1.6.1 (hyne1.6.1 just crashes, possibly due to the memory card being corrupt but if you extract the save first with PSXMemTool then run hyne1.6.1 it will load) but it will open in hyne1.6 and 1.4 and using those you should be able to set your characters and items back to how they should be.

If you still can't do it yourself if you post your characters exact levels/names/items/GF's etc i can edit it and upload it for you (or if you just want them all set to max level i can do that).

Bootleg Questions / Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg
« on: 2012-11-25 13:00:30 »
Jreeds26,
If you're using the 2012 ReRelease and Bootleg .039 or earlier, then you must first run the Kranmer New to Old patch:

Kranmer's New to Old Patch for FF7 2012

Then rename ff7_en.exe to ff7.exe.

Finally, run Bootleg.

If you run my New to Old patch you do NOT need to rename FF7_en.exe to FF7.exe, the patch comes with FF7.exe 1.02 official patch, just make sure to run my patch before running bootleg.

I am not sure which version of my trainer is in bootleg (i don't use bootleg) but awhile ago i did release a fix for the problem with GP (i am not sure if i released it publicly, i may have only released it privately), the problem was with the max number of GP can only be half of FF FF so i fixed it (it displays the higher value but doesn't work), try this version and let me know how you get on.

if your app.log is empty its likely that Aali's driver is not installed properly, have you fun FF7Config and made sure "Custom Driver" is selected on the graphics page ? if it is installed correctly try setting FF7 to run in a window instead of fullscreen inside "ff7_opengl.cfg" and then try running ff7.exe again and see what happens, if it comes up fullscreen still even though it was disabled in the cfg then its the driver not installed properly, if it runs in a window but still just black then its a different problem.

Graphical / Re: New Opening
« on: 2012-09-26 00:30:18 »
1] i just looked at the video and saw it was 1280x720 so reason the video doesn't fill the screen is because it isn't that the correct ratio, to get a video to fill the screen in FF7 it needs to be a multiple of the native FF7 movies, and the original movies are something like 320x224, this means that to fill the screen your movie has to be around
320x224
640x448
1280x896
So try 1280x896 and see if you are happy with the results, if it still isn't filling the screen try 1280x960 and that will probably do it.

2] I think someone went into this before and the result was that when you use higher FPS then the original movie the guards wouldn't show up (the original movies are 15fps where yours is double that 30fps) if you still want the guards to turn up try lowering your movie to 15fps or try altering the script in "Makou Reactor" to make the guards show up at a different time.

Anyway i hope this helps, and good luck with your project.

Also, hotdog963al once shared an app on these forums called MNU-TIMjector (in the thread HERE), which has since disappeared from the face of the earth (it was on MegaUpload.com, which has since been taken down). Does anyone have a copy of this app? I've PM'd the author, but received no response thus far...and people have already been penalized for reviving the dead thread itself to request the app (apparently, here at Qhimm.com, we're so flooded with traffic that a few threads being brought back from the dead is more of a problem than stifling everyone's ability to ask for help from more than one long-absent user at a time).
I still have that program, i have just uploaded it here for you
http://www.mediafire.com/?2cbc3e9qey723t8
i did see you post a few days ago but i wasn't sure if i had the program or not (i had to go look for it on one of my HDD backup discs which took a few hours/days (i did a few each day) since i have over 200 backup discs of data from the last couple of years)
Anyway i hope this helps.

EDIT:- this should also probably be posted in the topic about it as well so if anyone who has posted in the original thread could edit their post and add that link to it i would appreciate it.

I recall there being a DEP issue with the menu overhaul that wasn't fixed (as far as I know) in any of the new releases. I would not jump to the conclusion that its a pirated copy because of a DEP crash, plenty of other things could cause that.
Old versions of the menu overhaul did have a problem with DEP but i am pretty sure lusky fixed it in the lastest version.

im out of ideas. maybe threats will work

edit
the game has to know how to look for the reg key somehow. find the path for the reg key from the exe or a dll or something?
Well from what i understand about securom is that it uses a different reg key on every system which is generated by your own hardware (this is why you can't just take someone elses registry entries to activate the game) and since the key is different on every system i don't think i can add a check this way, i am looking into other ways but to be honest i am not having any luck so far :(

This package perfectly and completely bypasses 2012 FF7s DRM. It's all you need to crack a copy open for pirates.

Don't really understand why you folks are so anal about naming and shaming pirate users but allow a complete tutorial and package on cracking Square-Enix's DRM to be posted and supported by site administration.
OK i am gonna try to make this as clear as i can, this does NOT break any DRM what so ever, the 2012 DRM is still there, hell even the original 1998 DRM is still there. All this does is patch the 2012 version back to the 1998 version NOTHING MORE AND NOTHING LESS this doesn't crack or break anything.

----------

I am trying to make everyone happy with this but i can't seem to find a way to check activation, I could make it check to see if a file exists or not, so i may be able to make a check to see if someone is using the original game EXE or a cracked EXE when they install this (not the best method but so far this is all i can come up with), I could really do with more information on the activation process.

once the game has been activated and makes it into the launcher would you be able to check it against a running process if the launcher is up?
well checking a running process is easy but people would have to run launcher.exe just to install this and also it could be faked easy by making any EXE named launcher.exe and running it, so i really wouldn't want to do it that way.

If the patch only works on legally activated versions, it's a non-issue from an ethical standpoint. Is it possible to add this? How detectable is an activated copy?
Well i am looking into how to make this work on only activated versions but the problem i ran into is that the HKEY_USERS key for activation is different on everyone's system so no 2 peoples are in the same place which makes it hard to add a check so i need to try and find a different way of checking for activation.

That got me down to 1.51 GBs, very nice!
EDIT -> Actually, I did a little more hunting and was able to get it down to 1.31 GBs. I went ahead and wrote a batch file. You run it from within your installed directory and it keeps the language of your choice, removing the rest.
-Before: 2.21 GB
-After: 1.31 GB

Would you mind if i add this into the next version of my new to old patch ?

if i want to create an automated installer for models in between bootleg releases what would i need to learn
Well DLBP already has a model installer called UMI which includes a lot of models and is fairly upto date (only the latest models probably aren't included but probably will be in the next version), but if you wish to create your own i suppose you could. To start with you would need the tools, so pick a tool for decompressing LGP's, then you need to make a BAT file with the commands to decompress the LGP and then copy the files across  then you can make a installer using Inno to do all of that automatically, if you need any more help on this i could go deeper into it but i won't in this thread (we will do it in PM) since this thread is for the new to old patch.

90
Does anyone know what FIELD.TBL and WORLD.BIN are? I assume FIELD.TBL is some sort of table, although I don't see anything intelligible therein. WORLD.BIN seems to be compressed/encoded/encrypted, but it's neither GZIP nor LZS, unless I've missed something.
You missed something, WORLD.BIN is Gzip compressed, same as field.bin you just remove the first 0x8 bytes from the file then decompress (you can use 7zip to decompress or use gzip.exe but if you use gzip.exe make sure to rename world.bin to world.gz, for some reason it doesn't like the .bin extension then use the command "gzip.exe -d world.gz"). Hope this helps.

@kranmer read the last couple posts on this thread.
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13425.50

i know its like making an ultima edition but if only file for other languages are removed then it should work flawlessly. and maybe this feature one day can be apart of your patch.

also where can i learn to make programs similar to yours
I was aware of what he was doing (some of my posts are in the last few of those posts), i haven't really though about adding it to this but it might not be a bad idea to do so, i will ask the author for his permission to add it in the next version. Also adding it does NOT make it anything like the ultima edition, the whole point of his BAT file is to reduce installed space.

When you say you want to make programs like me do you mean you want to make installers or do you mean patches ? For installers i use Inno Setup and its pretty easy, for making patches i use different programs depending on the sort of patch i need (sometimes i use Hexteditor and sometimes i use DUP2,Vpatch or Xdelta)

92
also there is a few more files you should be able to get rid off which are quite big (over 100MB each), if you go into
.\FINAL FANTASY 7\data\field
you should see a bunch of files like
sflevel.lgp
gflevel.lgp
fflevel.lgp
those 3 are for different languages (s for spanish, g for german and f for french, the english one is named flevel.lgp so make sure you keep that one)
if you look in a few other folders there are even more like the mini-games folder but to be honest most of the other folders are only small files.

93
Okay, thanks. Sounds like I need to head downstairs and grab the old disks.

edit->
New version before patch - 2.21 GBs.
New version after Kranmer's 0.3 conversion patch - 2.36 GBs.

Old version 'Complete' Install - 415 MBs?!? Wow that's a HUGE difference. (This is the version that comes in the trapezoid box and 3 page fold-out CD case).
yeah there is a few reasons why the old one is smaller then the new one on a full install,
1: Original game keeps movies on the CD where the rerelease has them on the HDD (if you copy the old movies to the HDD the filesize will probably be similar).
2: Original game only comes in the language you buy it in but the rerelease comes in multiple languages (which means it has multiple movies and LGP's for different languages which increase filesize)

On the release you could probably delete the languages you are not using to cut down the filesize after a installation of the release if you need to save on space and maybe reencode the videos but you shouldn't need to do this unless you think 2GB is too big.
Also my converter for new to old increased the filesize because it copies movies that are in a different folder into the correct folder (it copies instead of moving because if it moves files the rerelease may have problems, i try to keep it so the rerelease will work as much as possible).

Troubleshooting / Re: Strange controller behavior
« on: 2012-08-30 18:17:58 »
Works fine now without xpadder :), although I did like having L2 R2 equivalents and navigating menus with the joystick is a bit of a pain.
Glad that worked :), like i say if you grab "XBCD 0.2.7" and install it, you will be able to enable dpad and the triggers as buttons so you will be able to use them if want them but the game should play fine with the controller as is.

Troubleshooting / Re: Strange controller behavior
« on: 2012-08-30 10:26:16 »
odd problem, i remember someone once having a similar problem, if it is the same problem it was caused by having 2 inputs, xpadder inputs controller keys and the game itself can use the controller (so every time you press a button on your controller it gets 1 input from the controller and 1 from xpadder),
if it is the same problem to solve the problem you could just not use xpadder, the game does work with a 360 controller without the need for xpadder (although triggers on the controller don't work so you have to configure the controls inside FF7 to what you want them to be and also the dpad doesn't work you have to use the control stick)
Or you could use custom a custom driver like "XBCD" for 360 controllers (that's what i use) which will allow you to map your controllers buttons so you can tell it to use triggers as buttons so they can be used in ff7 and you can also enable it to use the dpad instead of the control stick or you can make it so it can use both.
Hope this helps with your problem (if your problem is the same).

he asks me to add the cdrom, and registry clée not work I opened the notpad
Im not sure exactly what your problem is but all you have to do is edit the REG file for your system with the drive you intend to use. i recommend following EQ2Alyza's guide at

just made version 0.3, only has a few small bug fixes and a option to unpatch flevel if you don't install any mods that modify flevel, and it should now also autodetect the FF7 installation path.
you can get it in the first post or here

also if you already have 0.2 sucessfully installed you DO NOT NEED THIS

Troubleshooting / Re: Blackscreen
« on: 2012-08-27 16:06:26 »
The black screen often occurs when there is a problem playing videos.
Is the movie folder correctly set in Bootloader?

Does anyone know if the new videos are compatible with the old ff7.exe?
Well the new movies do work with Aali's Custom Driver but with a small problem, we discussed it when i was making the converter from new to old, the new movies work but give a sound buffer error and apparently have messed up sound but from a video stand point they do work so this probably isn't the cause of his black screen.

99
Yeah I was wondering about that. I have used the converter. I can't even get the game to run without bootleg atm, so I'm not sure what I can do to rectify, can these files be made available by somebody out there? I followed EQ2Alyza's converter tutorial so not sure where I could have gone wrong!
Edit: It also says ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\ff7input.cfg which also doesn't exist in my directory
Well if you have already run the converter successfully you should have those files, something may have gone wrong. After running my converter you should have a file called
copyfiles.bat
which should be in the root of your FF7 folder (in your case E:\Final Fantasy VII\) this is run on installation of the converter but i left it there even after installation just incase this sort of thing happened, run this BAT file and it should put the .BIN files into the right place (go to E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel once its done to check). And if the BAT file isn't there then you didn't install the converter properly and you should probably start from the beginning again (i mean uninstall all FF7 stuff and start again if you can or maybe just try installing the converter again).
also the ff7input.cfg isn't something to worry about, it isn't required to run the game (unless you are on a laptop or a keyboard without a numberpad its pretty useless)

100
JowHoof,
The OpenGL driver isn't correctly installed.  Make sure all antivirus software is disabled before running Bootleg.
I'm not certain if it's just a coincidence, but many people with Radeon 4XXX cards are experiencing problems.
Well actually looking at JowHoof's app.log it says
ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel/window.bin
ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel/kernel.bin
ERROR: could not open file E:\Final Fantasy VII\data\kernel/kernel2.bin
which means he is missing those files, which means he may be using the 2012 FF7 and hasn't used the converter, or he has used the converter and used it wrong, or maybe something else has deleted those files or he doesn't have access to them.
So i don't think this is graphics related
