General Discussion / Re: Graphics card brand

A lower-end card such as 1030 should be generally reliable no matter which brand you get, but maybe don't get Gigabyte.

I was wondering what was going on, thought it was a joke due to the euro football finals, I've changed my password to be on the safe side, were you able to identify which account was compromised? So they can do a virus scan on their end etc
We know which account was compromised and how. No malware or anything, just a reused password on another site that was hacked.

Covarlett still Covarlett?
I'm a battle-wearied full Covarr now, gone through a terrible marriage, a divorce, and now am engaged to someone actually wonderful.

please elaborate how banning someone so you dont have to deal with him anymore translates to courageous?
We banned him so the rest of the community didn't have to deal with him. We have internally tried to deal with him countless times over the last several years, and he has had countless chances. While I do agree with you that he was prodded several times by several people (though perhaps not in the most recent drama), the simple fact is that he was at the center of more drama than more people, and more consistently than anyone else.

The number of chances he's been given to change his attitude is pretty dang high. Steps we've taken, steps we've tried (in some cases limited by SMF, which doesn't always give us the freedom to moderate as we see fit), they haven't worked.

This move wasn't taken lightly, nor as a way to avoid dealing with the problem. On the contrary, this was the step we didn't want to take, a way of dealing with him when frankly nothing else worked. If anything, letting him stay would've been not dealing with it.

But at the end of the day, given the profoundly negative impact his attitude has had on this community over the course of years, given the volume of complaints we receive about his behavior on a near-daily basis, and given the number of people who have straight up left and personally attested to myself and other site staff that he is the reason why... We deemed banning him would be better for the site and its users than not banning him. "The needs of the many" and all that.

Nobody gets unlimited chances. We made an honest effort to give him the opportunity to... well, to knock it off. He didn't. Just because you weren't privy to everything that went on behind the scenes doesn't change that.

I want to apologize too. As some of you may know, I'm probably closer to DLPB than a lot of the people on this forum are, and almost certainly than the rest of the site staff are, due to my involvement with Reunion as a proofreader. As such I have historically abstained from any moderation decisions regarding DLPB, out of concern that, no matter what my intentions, I could not be trusted to make unbiased decisions.

But I think this was just an excuse that I made because I didn't want to deal with it. I've known for a long time that his continued presence here was doing more harm than good for the community, and "I don't trust myself to deal with this fairly" is awfully close to "I don't feel like dealing with this" or "I don't wanna be the one who bans him."

It was nothing but weakness on my part. My reasons for not taking action, either against DLPB or against those who regularly prodded him, were not good reasons, and undermined the very purpose I'm meant to serve as a staff member.

So I, too, offer my sincerest apologies.

darknesshah66, the "Tools" and "Releases" sections are clearly marked as being only for released things, i.e. something with a download link. They are not the correct place to answer questions. Additionally, please do not post the same thread in multiple places. Once is enough; if it is in the wrong place, a moderator will generally notice and move it within a few days.

Obviously gameplay is more important, but I firmly believe the two do not have to be at odds with each other unless you've got a seriously messed up development workflow like FF13.

Thus I haven't been issuing warnings or bans because I have too much personal stake in multiple of the people involved with this mess to remain impartial. But this has gotten way out of hand.

Keep posts in this thread on-topic, about Reunion and without personal attacks, or get +30 warn level. I don't care who you are, I don't care who you're attacking, and I don't care if you're entirely justified. It stops now. ~Covarr

Team Avalanche / Re: Project Edge (Jusete's field scenes)

I think what satsuki is saying is that you can mix the two together in post, as such:

What I've done here is used the edges of the lights from satsuki's version, and everything else from jusete's version. It's more work, but the results are a best of both worlds, thanks to that manual touch.

General Discussion / Re: A question on Reno of the Turks.

It could be that, the Shinra organization being pretty much destroyed, he didn't really have a job to work or a reason to be serious... but then, all the characters in Advent Children were flanderized to hell, mere caricatures of what they'd been in FF7.

Japanese Reno was somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. The original localization definitely dropped the ball and lost a good chunk of his charm, but Advent Children made the opposite mistake and exaggerated his silliness to the point of absurdity.

That is absolutely confounding. Why would an offline game that doesn't really have any network features at all need the firewall to be disabled?

Lorath, your reporting ability was removed due to repeated frivolous reports.

Incinerator's account was deleted at his request; posts were not removed for historical purposes.

I'll go ahead and lock this thread now.

Square Enix already knows we exist. If they see us distributing mods like that, which not only contain their copyrighted content but would actively discourage people from buying the new remaster, that might encourage them to take legal action.

We don't want that. We tend to like not being shut down.

rick, when obesebear, a forum administrator, tells you to stop double posting, that doesn't mean argue or make excuses, and it sure as heck doesn't mean do it again. Enjoy a brief vacation from posting privileges. ~Covarr

Releases / Re: [FF7PC] Enhanced Stock UI
« on: 2019-07-25 04:10:19 »
The releases section is for actual releases. The thread can be moved back when there is a release.

Almost certain. They're avoiding the term "timed exclusive", but all the verbal dancing they've done suggests that's exactly what they're doing. And PC has been a really important platform for FF the last few years.

+1 Agree.  I typically don't question moderators, but DLPB was not the instigator, nor does he deserve the more severe punishment.
My reasoning was mostly based on moderation history; more specifically, only one of the involved users has been warned repeatedly for this type of personal attack over the years. That said, I was in a pretty bad mood yesterday, so deferring to EQ2Alyza's judgment is probably wisest.

Warnings issued. Grow up, guys; we aren't ten year olds and we shouldn't be acting like it.

"Game of Thrones Writers Keep Dropping The Ball"

This kinda looks like a colorspace issue. The game seems to be outputting limited range (16-235) while the media player is outputting full range (0-255). I can't really guess at why it's doing that or how to solve it, but I've seen this problem before in other things.
