Will England finally win? Will we get knocked out in the quarter finals in a penalty shoot-out? Will we lose humiliatingly to the US? How many fans will get raped/murdered? Will there be lulz? By the 12th of July, we'll know the answer!
Today's matches are South Africa vs Mexico and Uruguay vs France. I'm tending towards saying that Mexico and France will win, but SA have home advantage and a lot of expectation, so... the first match should be an exciting one (lol just kidding, early games are nearly always 0-0 draws :D)

Of course you can't wait. The US have nothing to lose because they're the underdogs; we're the favourites and it will be incredibly embarrassing if we lose ;D. Given England's recent performances, that's probably what will happen :-[

american football is extremely intense. similar to HIIT. you might not think it's much but you're going all out, compared to soccer where you just go at 50% most of the game. If you did give it your all you would tire out in a matter of seconds, which is why american football has those rest periods. Iunno if you've wrestled before, but those 90 seconds of wrestling may seem short, but damn, the intensity of it. Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy.
Soccer is more a long distance cardio stamina slow-twitch muscle thing. Football is fast-twitch intense all out sport with rest breaks in between.
I think you guys deserved to win =P We had a lucky goal at the end, plus americans don't even care about soccer. Noone watches soccer here. Our favourite sports

Well, that game was pretty meh.
First half was fun. I don't know that we really deserved a tie, though. The score we got was from your mistake. Pretty crappy, that.
P.S. Must say that hockey is above baseball, imo.

Americans seem to be vastly overestimating how much English people care about a draw with the US; don't confuse being disappointed with being angry. Maybe they really want us to care. Maybe they think we care as much as they'd care if they were beaten in "their" sports. Fortunately for them, no-one likes their sports so they have no competition. We only get beaten in "our" sports because ours are so great that the rest of the world loves them even more than we do ;D
We only care about our national team when we get knocked out on penalties by Germany or Portugal. We're so used to drawing against teams we should beat that it doesn't bother us very much, although we do voice our disgust about it on the intertubes. The only teams we really care about doing well against are Germany, Argentina and (recently) Portugal.

Also, I've heard that, now South Africa are out,a lot of South Africans are supporting England. I also heard that a lot of Japanese people supported England in 2002 after they got knocked out. I find it funny that we got so far and this country doesn't give a sh*z about soccer...we like baseball more hell even tennis I would argue is more popular. Compared to some of these country's like England who live for the game.

The sheer size of the USA means that it's bound to have some good players even if it isn't one of the main sports. It's by far the biggest country in the competition; much bigger than Brazil, four times the size of Germany and six times the size of England.
It's also worth bearing in mind that passion for following the game doesn't always imply passion for playing the game, and England is an example of this. The USA is an example of the opposite, since participation in the sport is surprisingly high. In England, the idea actually playing football at any high level is rarely taken seriously in middle or upper-working class households (a cause and result of the fact that English footballers tend to be ill-educated louts and that becoming a professional usually means dropping out of school at 16 and getting no education), meaning that it's really a sport for an increasingly small proportion of the population. England is actually very close to the US in terms of participation in football, and it's nowhere near as much of a footballing nation as most Western European and South American countries.

Paul the octopus has correctly predicted the winner of all of Germany's matches by choosing between two boxes with the flag of Germany and the flag of its opponent. The chances of this happening by random are extremely low. He has predicted a Spanish victory in the final against the Netherlands.
I have a theory that he just likes the colours red and yellow and has picked the flag with the largest amount of those colours in every case. Germany have more red and yellow in their flag than any country in the matches except Spain, which has more. Spain was the only team to beat Germany and Paul predicted this correctly. Spain, of course, have more red and yellow in their flag than the Netherlands, so that might be why he picked them as winners for the final.
Of course, this theory will fly out of the window as soon as someone tells me that Octopuses can't see colours ;D

Even if the octopus is not attracted by certain colors, that random chance of him getting it right every time is still there.

Finally something that makes sense. My best theory so far had been that it was a human from the future that managed to travel back in time but was trapped in the body of an octopus (something like in The Fly, except much worse).

Hell, I don't have anything against pro-athletes. It's mostly just sports FANS that bug the crap out of me, the way they obsess over their favorite team, root and bet as if that makes a difference. It's a damn waste of time and resources.

Enjoying activities with close friends is kickass. Watching sports isn't an activity, it's watching somebody else do an activity, and then taking THEIR performance personally.

I was in track and cross country, but I don't think I was too stupid to be a nerd :P On the contrary, I played FFVII for 40492 hours and did Academic Decathlon.
