Hi all!

I decided to broadcast the 2011 Vocaloid Live in Tokyo, Japan on Twitch.TV with me playing the drum behind.

The video quality might be crappy and laggy, I'm sorry but there's not really something I can do about it =/ I just hope the sound doesn't lag as well.

Completely Unrelated / Issue with speakers and headphones [Not related to any game]

Title says most, but let me elaborate. If you can't be bothered to read skip the next 2 paragraphs.

Recently, I tried to put headphones to listen music and talk with other people without disturbing anyone. With headphones I didn't notice at first, but then someone pointed out that sound was still coming out of the speakers. This annoyed me but I had to deal with it.

Yesterday, I tried to connect something to my PC, but about 99% of the sound was still coming out of the speakers. Turning up the volume to the maximum made a very small amount of sound to come out by the speakers connected on my PC (not the build-in ones) and a lot still come out by the build-in ones.

To sum it up : When I connect headphones next to nothing comes out in it but it still comes out of the PC's speakers.

Windows 7 64 bits (laptop).
ASUS AMD Radeon 6570M/5700 series
Intel Core i7 CPU, 1.73 GHz (8 CPUs)
About 13 months old.

General Discussion / About games from FFX to today

So, I bought a PS2 in a retail shop for 50$ CAD (which is not much, about 63$ USD and about 80 euros, not really good with conversion )

The PS2 has way better games than a PS3, and not only I'm not gonna wait for the so-called HD remakes, but they give unnecessary money to Senix, and I don't want that.

I bought FFX with it, and I plan on getting FFX-2 (I want to get my own opinion out of it), DoC (yeah, it's still good) and FFXII (I actually liked the gameplay a lot) and maybe some KHs too.

But that was not my point. Games get shittier over the years, and that is not only Senix! One of the only company I still like is Valve, because, while they've got Valve time, they make good games. Senix have deadlines and don't want to go over them. That's why games are more shitty than what they were supposed to be.

I have a GBA from my childhood and I still play it. Why do they need to make bigger games? Sakaguchi, please come back! Don't let the world get worse!

I thought of, with all the fans here, writing a letter to Senix and tell them to let us handle the story writing and gameplay to the fans, so for something that would be good. Something like that would really encourage me to buy such games, and maybe bring Senix back to the good path...

Yesterday, the Esper NET IRC networks were subject to a spambot. This proved a very good laugh but some complications for the network staff. Rather than just writing what happened, I will paste the log (and will remove some useless points to not make too long). It. Was. Really. Funny. :P

For those who aren't familiar with IRC, people with @ in front of their names are channel operators. In this channel, they are all network operator as well, which means they can ban entirely from the network an IP address. People with +v (+ before their names) means they can talk if a channel if +m (muted/moderated). +b is a ban, and +q is quiet (cannot talk). Anna is a bot who auto-voices people when they talk and devoices them after ~45 minutes of inactivity.

Completely Unrelated / Regarding Emulators

Note: I'm not distributing emulators! Google is your friend.

I think it's better to clear things up for newbies (read : stupid people) who think such or such console is emulable.

NES : Very easy to emulate, and there are lots of emulators out there. The computers are powerful enough to emulate this without any trouble.

SNES : Still easy to emulate, and there are quite a few emulators for this. Look at any SMW (on emulator) vid and you'll see that there are no problem to emulate at all.

Nintendo 64 : The first console that has 3D models in it (besides maybe 1 or 2 games on the SNES) and is really easy to emulate too. No problem here.

PlayStation One : Well-known but a bit sloppy to emulate on too old machines, there are still a few problems but it's still good.

GameBoy Advance : Quite easy to emulate and no problem either. It's not something very difficult.

Nintendo DS : A bit harder to emulate, but not something difficult either.

PlayStation Two : Now it gets interesting... An emulator DOES exist, however it can be slow on most machines even if less than a year old.

XboX : Hehe, now it's really interesting... An emulator exist, but can only emulate a single game, and is rather slow.

Game Cube/Wii : Two good consoles with a good emulator but can be slow, depending on your machine.

XboX 360 : It doesn't exist. Period. Any download you could find is fake. Anything you could hear or read is fake. Any video you can watch is fake. Period.

PlayStation Three : It doesn't exist. Period. Any download you could find is fake. Anything you could hear or read is fake. Any video you can watch is fake. Period.

Feel free to correct me, however if you write to say "An emulator exists for XboX 360 and/or PS3" then you indeed are stupid.

Today was the last school day of my friend. He's changing schools midway through the school year. He was my best friend and I was very sad when he left for good... Of course we're still communicating through MSN or FaceBook, but I won't get to see him again in a while...

I'm sure lots of other members have special days they'd like to talk about. I look forward to hear (read in fact ) about yours.

I thought of it, and since S-E doesn't seem to release soon the remake of FF7, better do it ourselves. Just to be sure everyone knows what I'm talking about, I DO NOT mean to graphical enhance the game, but reverse engineering it, at least be able to edit any byte from the game. It requires time (everyone has a bit sometime), patience (find yours), knowledge (do not ask here, roam around and learn; this is not for newbies) and, for some people, programming skills. The whole documentation won't be in this topic, however, I expect anyone to post here and not in the documentation one. I'll post soon the documentation, but I want to have your thoughts before. So?

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7 Battle text is in ff7.exe

In FF7, there are three so-called battle texts. Enemy-only texts are in scene.bin, while characters abilities are in kernel.bin, but some of the text seen isn't in neither scene.bin nor kernel.bin and lie in ff7.exe (MNUs files) like, as found earlier, status ailments names, but also some texts that we could think are in scene.bin! Like this one, popping in the Bizarro fight :



There are other like this, I'm currently checking these.

Edit : Battle Square text is there, too.

Help with code tags

Q: I don't understand how to make this code thing work!
A: You can click on the '#' button (At the top of your post, not the key on your keyboard) to make code tags appear in your post where your cursor is. You can also select all the text that goes inside the code tags and click the '#' button.


Finding necessary files

Q: Where can I find those files you talk about? (config and APP log files)
A: In the main Final Fantasy VII/VIII game folder (FF8 creates an APP.log file, but it will be blank).


Black bar

Q: There's a black bar at the bottom of my screen when moving around in field! Help!
A: It is normal. It goes away in battle and menus. It goes back to the old PSX days. Some things are programmed based on coordinates, and removing the black bar would cause issues.


Disabling shaders

Q: I experience some problems/crashes and I don't know what causes it!
A: Turn off shaders ("use_shaders = no" in the config file) or use the "Everything is made of light" fix (see below). If that doesn't fix it, try disabling fancy transparency ("fancy_transparency = off" in the config file). If that still doesn't work, post your config and APP log files using the method described above.


Textures fail to load

Q: FF7 was installed and I played it for some time, now I tried to add a new texture and it doesn't load! What do I do?
A: Delete the files from the cache folders:

.\Final Fantasy VII\cache
.\Final Fantasy VII\mods\cache

Don't forget the virtual store:

   32BIT

NVIDIA cards problems

Q: The game crashes and I don't know why. I have an NVIDIA card.
A: The driver has trouble with newer NVIDIA drivers. Disable your shaders (see above) or use the "Everything is made of light" fix (see below). It has been fixed for the next release


Older patches problems

Q: I used The SaiNt's Hi-Res patch with or without Aali's custom driver but it doesn't work well!
Q: I used the FF8 Launcher with or without Aali's custom driver but it doesn't work well!
A: Those patches are outdated. Uninstall them and use Aali's custom driver alone.


General help

A: Did you try reinstalling the game and the driver? Do you have the latest graphic drivers? Did you try fiddling with the options? Try experimenting on your own, it often wields better results.


Downloaded game

Q: I downloaded FF7/FF8 from the Internet and the driver doesn't work!
A: Save yourself some trouble and don't bother posting. Pirated games are not supported.


Everything is made of light

Q: My game is all black/white! It goes away when I disable shaders, but I don't want to! What do I do?
A: In your FF7 directory, copy and replace the files .\shaders\main.frag and .\shaders\main.vert into .\shaders\nolight\ (however, the shaders need to be enabled for this to work!) or you can download the shaders-fix (thanks to UGerstl for this).

Q: The game works but some things don't. I am on Vista or newer.
A: You need to run the game as administrator.

Q: How to run the game as administrator?

Now, let's talk about another of Square's greatest games; Kingdom Hearts. There are (to my knowledge) 4 of them out at the moment : Kingdom Hearts (PS2), Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS2), Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days (NDS) and Kingdom Hearts : Birth by Sleep (PSP). I played the last two named and intend to play all four. I found them to be pretty good games. What about you?

If you don't know (in any case), Kingdom Hearts is a fusion between Final Fantasy and Walt Disney, with lots of new characters aswell. As a Final Fantasy fan, you MUST at least play once one of them. My opinion.

General Discussion / FF7 : Mega Analysing

A new project I decided to start as a result of being bored. This project consists in checking the script of EVERY single field location, alphabetically, which means that we will start with ancnt_1 and finish with zz8 in order. This will allow us to find (and eventually repair) any weirdies in the script. We will check any single script in every field. I know some of you will want to modify some things. We will use Makou Reactor and Meteor to see the script, but most likely Makou Reactor by myst6re. We will start this project once I'll come back to home, which means in approximately 6 hours and a half. We will post everything here but when we will finish a field, we'll create a new thread to post that there and to post only finished stuff.

What do you guys think about this project?

I want to know how to create *working* PBP files for my PSP. For that long, I have been able to create a PBP that makes my PSP reconize the pictures of Crisis Core (because this is this game I want to convert). Do not worry about illegality, ripping from our friend's PSP a game of yours is allowed I believe. But i didn't remember that PSP Go's don't accept UMDs before having it. Well. I can create a 18-Mb PBP but the entire game is more than 1 Gb so it doesn't work. Any idea on how I can do that? I roamed the net a lot but didn't find anything.

Details on Nanaki's equipment :

Weapon : Limited Moon (in order to inflict 9999 HP with 999 MP, when Ruby Weapon is alone)
- Added Effect + Time : with the lowest Battle Speed and Howling Moon's Haste, Nanaki can inflict [Slow] to Ruby Weapon and attack four times in a turn, which is primordial.
- Added Effet + Destruct : Nanaki can inflict [Death] to himself thanks to Ruby Ray's Confusion and 'Revovery' thanks to the other Materias.
- Elemental + Typhon : Nanaki has Wind attacks, one of the only elements Ruby cannot absorb/nullify with Holy.
- HP Plus : Nanaki gains more HP from the artificial "Regen" of Poison.

Armor : Mystile (cause Comet2's comets to miss very often, and other attacks too)
- Elemental + Choco/Mog : Nanaki absorbs his own Wind attacks and has a 19% chance to absorb [Death] and gain 'Recovery')
- Elemental + Poison : Nanaki can absorb the elemental attacks of the Poison status, and recover 9999/32 = 312 HP each turn, which is primordial too, when Ruby Weapon is alone.
- Added Effect + Transform : avoids the right tentacle to cause Small and Frog.

Nanaki has [Sadness], too, and a Jem Ring to avoid Slow-numb.

It's funny to see that the whole strategy is based on Elemental and Added Effect Materias, that most people don't use a lot !
...but also that victory is impossible without Ruby's [Confusion] and [Poison] status, and [Berserk] and [Death] on Nanaki himself : sometimes, masochism can help.

Solved Problems / SOLVED: FF8 Battle Hardcore Patch crash the game

Colly's battle hardcore patch makes my game crash... Let me explain :

I applied the Ruby Medium Diffuculty (I made a backup of my battle.fs before) and copied the battle.fs each time so I've got backup of them. I used batch files from there to change the diffuculty... Then I took a savegame and go to beat a boss. Then the game crash with the "Oops, something very bad ........" message from Aali's driver. Here's my APP.LOG just in case :

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / About Batch Files

For my convenience, I use batch files to change mods on FF7 and FF8. I just don't know some commands. For example, is there a possibility to choose what to change by these mods? For example, besides having 4 batch files on my desktop, I would like to have only one and choose what to change. I've got 17 batch files on my desktop, but would like to have only 4. Is there a possibility to do that?
