So I am getting ready to do another play through.

What do we reckon is the best set up as it stands? I usually just install through bootleg, but I might use 7th heaven this time.

who else is doing a playthrough? do we reckon its worth waiting for a few months, round off a few projects and get and make an "as far as we got before remake release" playthrough?

So I thought I would give a progress report, since I have been teaching myself blender and working on this for like a week. I'm still working on the modelling processes in blender, which operate differently to how I am used to, but it's coming along. Haven't even started rendering and texturing yet :P

This is how my design looks so far, it's a long ways off, but I though early critique would be best for my first attempt. Hopefully I will get faster in the future.

Team Avalanche / ShinraTool - Failing to load .dat files
« on: 2014-06-04 09:36:29 »
Heya guys,

So I can't get ShinraTool to load the .dat files and I am wondering if anyone has encountered this problem before.

Mayo sent me the file, I extracted ShinraTool and ran it, in it's own folder on the desktop. As soon as I ran ShinraTool an export and a log folder were created in the ShinraTool folder. I loaded my Final fantasy 7 disc (I have tried discs 2 and 3 as my copy of disc 1 went missing years ago) and used shinratool to open a .DAT file having selected the Blender option (I tried Ztruck.dat and then a bunch of other randomly selected .DAT files.)

Everytime I get this error message

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

and after this error message I can continue to try and render anyway or quit, when both are selected the export and log folders remain empty.
I tried loading from the folders in blender as well in case they were somehow hidden or otherwise.

Has anyone else encountered this at all? I have tried rebooting, running as admin and turning off anti virus.

I am running windows 8 and can give specs if that could contribute to the issue. Appreciate any pointers or other help.

So basically I just finished a degree in Mechanical design and I can create mechanical designs that work in 3D easily.

I'm not sure how useful this will be to you as most of the mechanical design programs have their own file types i.e. .SLDPRT etc. but if you can use any types I would like to contribute to this society.

An example of something I would be good for is a remodelling of the Nibelheim reactor, Depending on the program I can generally knock up simple gears in seconds and add any textures I am supplied and I can turn these into working models nicely. I heard that to remake the movies you may need to remodel their scenes, so if anyone is working on this currently and would like someone to help out I would love to.

Also I could happily build working models of the bike and car.... that would actually be amazing, if anyone knows what kind of file types are easiest to incorporate into code please let me know

I'm also beginning to learn how to code and stuff, but honestly at the moment I feel like a complete idiot and there is no way I'm ready for anything as complex as hex.

Heya guys Im a big fan of final fantasy particularly 7!

Im running 8.1 and steam on my laptop I have tried installing the game for a second time and it works fine unmodded, I too am against piracy :)

MY first problem is with the ff7 config and the converter. IT denies access to a lot of the converter functions and gives error message unable to locate registry key. Please re install Final fantasy VII. So I control panelled, uninstalled, deleted the folder and used the registry deletion tool listed in the guide and it found a key and removed it so i was like yay! but no, same message appears on reinstall.

Im wondering if steam will be logging the registry key on the 2nd computer in some strange place?

Already have this installed on my pc and you guys are doing a brilliant job, providing what square refuses to (although I must admit from the official statement it will be quite interesting if square do remake it as they have said it will take the resources of two new games and will be the directors life work.......... salivate)

Appreciate any help you guys can offer
