Title: Error on step 3 on setting up 7th heaven
Post by: chaos999 on 2018-08-30 01:30:32
Every time I'm get the 3rd step and make sure everything is correct, the moment I click ok it crashes and I get an error report. I have lost count how many times I have started the process all over from step 1. Anyway here's the report I keep getting.

Show the path names. You could be typing to a path that doesn't exist (typo) or your native language isn't supported.

Library location: D:\Games\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\mods\7th Heaven"D:\Games\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\mods\7th Heaven"

that would be your problem if that is how its pasted in the setting and not just a double paste here on the site.

My bad, double pasted it there by mistake. It is not like that in the actual pathway.

Delete the " at the end of the Library Location and try deleting the \ at the end of the Movies Path.

I need to make sure...did you run the game converter successfully? It modifies folders (and files) to mimic the original CD version setup. This has to be done because most mods on Qhimm were made before any of the digital releases, so everything that Aali's Driver did worked around the layout of the original CD installation. I'm not the developer of 7th Heaven, so I can't offer really extensive help with this issue. But I was the main tester when Iros was developing it, and I know that it can be really sensitive to incorrect setups and pathways.

Same error appeared after deleting " and /. I had no problems with the game converter at all and no files, to my knowledge, were removed by my anti-virus software.

Close 7H and navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\7thWorkshop. Open the settings.xml and check your saved paths. I've seen reports in the past of changes not saving to that file.

Ok, I found the file but I don't know what exactly I'm looking for as I very rarely end up having to look at these kind of files. I'm just going to post what it has.

Spoiler: show

<LibraryLocation>D:\Games\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\mods\7th Heaven"D:\Games\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\mods\7th Heaven</LibraryLocation>

That's the problem. Edit it to this: <LibraryLocation>D:\Games\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\mods\7th Heaven</LibraryLocation>

Save the file afterwards.

That did the trick. Thank you for helping me with this. If I have any download problems that can't be solved with what's already in the forum I will let you know.

Glad we got it straightened out  :)

And I learned that settings don't always save correctly after the initial setup  :-\
