More Damning of FF7!
« on: 2002-10-01 06:18:22 »
Related Topic: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1285

I just re-installed FF7 again. I support full 3D, and everything. Backgrounds look great! Still crashing when I change scenes and stuff. I tried at both highest and lowest GFX settings, so this leads me to believe it's a coding problem of some kind.

When I crash I get an error at instruction 0x0069996d, memory at 0x44200004, mem could not be "read". This sounds similar to our chocobo problem... Maybe it's just me though...

Quote
Instruction at 0x0069b26d referanced memory at 0x44200004 Memory could not be "read". (Earlier post about this problem.)

Instruction at 0x0069996d referanced memory at 0x44200004 Memory could not be "read". (This time around, with the same problem.)

So my question now is... What is, or what should be, at memory 0x44200004?

Any help would be greatly appreicated, and I'll try to provide as much information as anyone requires.

Thanks in advance!

Edit:

In going back into the tech-help forums, I've found that SSJ4_Flash Had a similar problem to me a while back. (http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1079)

Sounds like a problem for Jedwin and his mad hex-editing Skillz, lol.  Maybe you should look into getting ahold of him and asking him about it.

Oh, and I guess this is my first post using 1024x768 res on my Stalwart Voodoo3 2000 PCI on Qhimm's Forums!! :D

Hmm.....the view is.....different.....but I can't quite put my finger on it....:P

1280x1024 all the way!

Well I'd go higher if it would let me.  Monitor seems to be cutting it off.

1280x1024  ==  5:4  ratio

1024x768 ==  4:3 ratio

I never really noticed a diffrence

it's still a   x+1: x  ratio. The pixels are still square

1280x960 is the "proper" resolution, but I find 1280x1024 to be much easier to look at. To me, things look stretched at 1280x960...

Pixels are not square in 1280x1024. A slight logical flaw in your argument,  (x+1) / x  is not the same for all x. If 4:3 (1.33) is defined as square, then 5:4 (1.25) is obviously a difference. And in the extreme, 2:1 (2.0). Aaaaanyway, not that big a point of discussion.

No changing of res for FF7 PC, sorry.  (Well you can set it to 320x240 if you really want to.)

If you have the PSX version, you can run it in ePSXe and crank the resolution up as high as you want.

ANYWAY
I used 1280x960 for a while, because it was the proper 4:3 resolution... but I switched to 1280x1024 after a few days, because hey, more screen space AND I think it looks better.  Doesn't look stretched or squished at all to me.

My monitor definately never suspends and is on like 18 hours a day.  For the last year.  Before that, it was still in use (although not as much - that was before I got it) and the monitor is altogether five years old.

19" CyberMax (max res 1280x1024, could be better...)

Love it :P

I suppose we've gone on with monitors long enough. :D

Getting back to your problem, I refer you to what I said in my earlier post:

That most likely would be the best thing to do, since he discovered why FF7 acts a little funky on NT-kernel-based OSes in the first place, he'd probably be more equipped to handle the situation.
