Thoes damn PUG's in FF6 (deep in the Narshe Mines).

I recognized her right away when I started the game. Once you identify her as a main character, you’re always left waiting for that event (hoping it doesn’t happen). I can’t believe I can remember that!  :-o

What people couldn't conclude is how it happened or could happen, which was the important part.

General Discussion / FF7 Spoof
« on: 2006-05-27 16:14:53 »
A week or two ago, [Adult Swim] made this little FF7 spoof on one of their show Robot Chicken.

No doubt, this was sparked as a result of Advent Children’s English release. It’s somewhat cheesy, but the detail in the first battle scene is nice.
I figured it would show up on YouTube sooner or later. LINK

That's just a way to increase the durability of a game in 99% of the games I know…
True, but isn't it much more than that? Such games were built on the concept of leveling up. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to construct a better corner stone.

FF8's level-up system was a real nice change from the norm, but still quite flawed (far-too predictable, for starters).
I think another radical change is in order.

Personally, I'd like a completely new system in re-FF7 so I can have something different to do. But to a lesser extent, just for nostalgia, I'd also like the option to play a game the original style.

:-D Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Some time ago, I was trying to recall a FF7 commercial but couldn't. Now, I remember seeing this on one of my High School's tvs.

Ah, the virtual argument that tramples on the idea as to how people perceive each other on a message board. An excellent example on how humanity has yet to adjust our communication skills to a purely digital environment.

I look forward to reading this in detail when I can spare the time. <Surprisingly, no sarcasm :-o >

Pregnant woman worried about giving berth to some satanic child on 6-6-2006? In 2066, it'll be daja'vu all over again.
Some cult predicts the time of Jesus' 2nd coming? It's failed many times in the past! Hay, it's that also a porno?

It amazes me as to how dense people really are.
:-P In retrospect, Hollywood is pretty smart by taking advantage of such ignorance. Take advantage of people's hopes/fears and they’ll come back every time. Cha-Ching!

Perhaps, but the ends don't always justify the means. As Qhimm implied, such an action would likely cause just as much clutter. Although in a different way (ie: Posted by Anomomus).

FYI: On many Bulletin Boards, the exact time of which a user logs in is recorded, right down to the second. This integer is then overwritten with each subsequent login to provide that oh-so-common "view posts since last visit" feature :P.

True... Philosophical/Psychological reasons aside, why are such users a burden? Its the active users who cause stress on the database, not the inactive. Are they cluttering up the forums? Well, I'd kind of have to agree (kind of); but the decision on which_topics/when to delete/move is strictly up to the moderator in charge. Uh? What’s left?

There's only so much that can be done with such little information. :|

"Randomly" implies a driver issue but nothing more specific. That leads me to suspect the video card, which he didn't provide. Also, "crashing down after some time" doesn’t' necessarily mean "random". Perhaps it’s crashing during the Fort Condor battle? Who knows! Only matzi.

Sorry, I'm not much of a leet speaker/reader (to much effort :P). Oddly, I don't really notice it much myself.

BTW: It can be l33t, 133t, or 1337. While the latter is in a more pure form, all 3 forms are still acceptable. Besides, "1337" wouldn't be as incredulous . Fuck! :-o Why do I even know this!

As far as I can tell, Qhimm hasn't yet made any decision on what to use next.

I prefer phpBB myself, but even this forum's default theme can be modified into something easier to read and work with.

All the good in the world is God's doing out of love for his children. All the bad and wrong things are either punishment from God or the work of Satan. And everything we can't explain: Wonders.
Well, I can certainly understand how you came to that conclusion. :|
God is good, Satin is bad, and Unknowns are wonders created by God... Bla, bla, bla... IMO, it's a pretty normal & yet typical view at Christianity. The scary thing is the amount of Christians actually believe that to the letter!

Quote from: Emerald Weapon
An easy, cheap and fast way of having people do your bidding and paying you for it.
How could this view include Christianity's origins? It's true, through out history many people have used any popular religion to promote there own personal agenda. However, although it's a funny thought, who would start a religion for the sole purpose of generating money centuries later? If anything, Christianity must have been first used to promote rules and order amongst ancient civilization (aka the early tribes of Israel, depending what your views are). I would be intrested in hearing some examples, tho.

Quote from: Emerald Weapon
Religion has done more harm in this world than anything else.
Yet you stated earlier in your post that you 'disagree with L. Spiro on the statement that religion has to be one of the stupidest things man ever invented'. So Ur indirectly showing support for it. :-P

Quote from: Sad Jari

Quote from: L. Sprio
...mankind had the wrong mindset back when they were drawing all these lines...
Even today, drawling lines is the easiest solution to comprehend. That's why we have all sorts of countries. Drawing from your example, the separation of countries are effectively imaginary lines. So the question in this example becomes: Why do we have separate countries? Because every group has their own opinion. Religion is just one example of this phenomenon. In this sense, governments are no different. Whether religion is involved or not, there will always be imaginary lines in the sand. (I must say, that is quite an interesting concept tho.)

Note: Sorry I don't touch on any other religions. Christianity is the only one I have ever actively educated myself in.

Announcements and site development / Re: Temporary forums

Thanks Qhimm for taking the effort to get a forum back online. :-D

I don't know much about SMF (so slap me if I say anything bad about them :-P). However I have been playing around with phpBB for a couple of years now... Unfortunately, it's design is somewhat dated and Olympus (the modernized version) isn't yet ready for an initial release (-still-).

As far as server load goes, it's searching functions probably cause the most problems for people. Even phpBB.com has introduced it's own search optimizations that they (for some reason) haven't released with 2.2 (i believe that's the case. It has been about 8 months since I've tackled it's code). However, some documents have been published in their Knowledge Base (Decrease search tables' size, Search Engine Optimisation, and Speed Up index.php).

PhpBB.com's main method of optimization (IMHO) lies in filtering out common search terms. Preventing the searching of words like "final" and "fantasy" (obvious example) could lessen the footprints created by unregistered guests (and those uneducated registered users).

Anyway, that's just my thoughts on the subject. At least, I believe it would make a consiterable diffrence. Whatever you chose to do, I'm sure there are many us would agree to help however we can .

And you know that ‘existence of God’ thing that I had trouble understanding before? I think I’m starting to understand it now.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s a concept that’s similar to a zero in mathematics. In other words, it’s a symbol that denies the absence of meaning, the meaning that’s necessitated by the delineation of one system from another. In analog, that’s God. In digital, it’s zero.

Also, our basic construction is digital, right? So for the time being, no matter how much data we accumulate, we’ll never have a Ghost. But analog-based people like you, Mr. Batou, no matter how many digital components you add through cyberization or prosthetics, your Ghost will never be damaged. Plus, you can even die ‘cause you’ve got a Ghost. You’re so lucky. Tell me, what’s it feel like to have a Ghost?

Plain and simple: that hard drive is dying. However, that's only if the HD is at least 2yrs old. The good news is that it may continue on for another year before it finally kicks the bucket. Point being, replace it while you can still read off it.

While it's not garenteed: Its usually the case that it will begin spitting out read errors awhile B4 it dies.

If its still young, then I cant really give any useful information without a more detailed description (age, manufacture/model, better description of the sound, etc...).

! Does that include C++? (..which basically just adds “class” structures to the lang.) Actually, the two languages flow together, one into the other.[/list:u]

My first programming experience was a High School class using Visual Basic in '98-'99. After that, I began experimenting with Unreal Script and through that I learned the powers of C. I began learning C#/C++ through an online class early in '02. (Yea, all I wanted to code was games, which is how I found Qhimm's site, lol) While I got through the course, I failed my own expectations horribly. At the time, I lacked the ability to code a window (yea, I know... just hush-up!) so I instead regressed into PHP (and tarring apart phpBB), the best alternative I could actually use during that time! Thankfully it helped sharpen my skills and now I'm attending ITT, for the sole purpose of continuing my understanding of the black magic that is C++. Although it can't be classified as a "language", if I had to pin-point the origins of my education, it would have to be back when I was 8, trying to figure out the game-logic of Dragon Warrior.

You really think so? From a learning standpoint: I suppose it depends on your instructor/professor. If you get someone that teaches out of a predefined curricular system, then I can agree because it’s just information being drilled into your head. Thankfully, some prefer to sidestep the curriculum and teach what it takes to be a successful programmer. It really depends on the learning environment, tho. I’ve never been to any major university myself but does that stuff (the school of which you obtain your degree) even matter these days when compared to a portfolio?

So what’s stopping you from starting your project before you graduate? (Besides ‘time’ because that’s exactly what’s slowing me down, right now.)[/list:u]

    Completely Unrelated / Nicknames.... why?
    « on: 2006-04-29 00:45:02 »
Hi Thrashamatrix, good to meet you. Quite a creative topic IMHO...

Around here, I'm known as odo324. It's an uncreative nick I started back in the early to mid '90s. The "odo" stands for a TV character I had admired back then, representing my confusion about what life really is for and my seriousness in discovering that truth (the character comes from a scifi show called Deep Space Nine). The 324 part? Well my ISP (at the time) wouldn't give me an 'odo' email so I had to append a number to it. 324 just seemed right; plus I actually liked typing that with my left hand (starting with my ever-so-lovely middle finger).

However, that was a very different life then the one I find myself in now. These days I typically go by the alias Takkun and I’ll probably change it here soon enough. Um, this one is a little hard to explain… Anyone here seen FLCL? It has got-to-be my favorite series off all-fucking-time! However, my fascination is not with the main character (who also holds the Takkun nick’) but in the attitude of the characters and the situations that occur as a result. To look at myself in that same manor can be compared to ‘finding an eviction notice on your font door’. Parts of my personality, fragments of my childhood, that just wont go away. In the series, the name Takkun also goes through a transition of sorts. Through Mamimi, the originator of the name, it is assigned to whoever is able to provide comfort to her (or perhaps distraction) vs. the harsh reality she so desperately tries to avoid. It’s a label in which she literally 'uses' in an effort to better herself.

Just noticing this myself… I suppose it’s safe to say that my nicknames have always been a reflection of the evolution for my personality at that period in time.
