Ah...122 MEGABYTES?

Are you sure you're looking at the right file? Mine's only about six and a half megabytes...

EDIT: I suppose it's possible that I am looking at the wrong thing...

First off, the Reunion patch is outdated (unless you like only having fifteen or so "good" models that clip like crazy). The NPC Reconstruction Project patch is wayyyy better. The topic is a few below this one.

It sounds like your .exe is bad, or something. Try and delete your current ff7.exe and see if it plays with an unmodded ff7.exe.

78
Oh well. I might be able to try and figure something else out.

(...)At least haves a meaning.

That is quite the point aside. It may have meaning to you, but the meaning is totally irrelevant to this discussion. Why did you post that, anyway? You're not special; everyone makes decisions every breathing second of their life. You're no more likely to meet this girl than I am, and I'll admit, she's hot. But I'm nowhere near obsessed with her; let alone "in love" with her and I'm certainly not intent on meeting this girl on purpose.

You're like an immature teenager (which, I guess you are; you're only 15). You think that good-looking pictures of a girl dressed up as your favorite fantasy characters equates to love. It doesn't. They have a word for what you're feeling: infatuation. Teenagers are greedy, immature, and, quite frankly, stupid. Teenagers don't have the capacity to truly love, not the kind of love you're professing. I don't care what some science states, or anything like that. True love isn't a feeling, it's a state of mind, which even science can't mimic that (yet).

You think this girl will be some love story between you two. It doesn't happen that way. If you get the chance, watch the movie "Last Action Hero". It's about a kid who brings his favorite action hero to life but the action hero, having always performed Hollywood movies, isn't used to losing or not having something go the right way. But it happens. You'll meet this girl, she'll give you a smile or two out of courtesy, and then that's it. And then, 24 hours later, you'll be sitting in a jail cell for stalking this girl. She won't think like you; you won't be Squall and Rinoa, that much I can assure you.

Why are you so negative? Tell me Bill Gates and Microsoft, are a Hollywood movie?

So you think Bill Gates's success story with Microsoft can somehow compare to this? Bill Gates invented revolutionary software; in his day and age, such a feat was attainable because no one had done it before. How many other people do you think have done (or attempted to do) you what you have done? I'd be willing to bet some other creep is sitting in jail because of stalking her. But I hold out hope for you; you're only young and I always give people the benefit of a doubt. This is a phase that you'll soon grow out of, hopefully. That, or you'll lead a sick life.

If she reads this I don't know how she will react, coz firstly I'm not her, secondly i don't know how she will take this, and thirdly
I don't know how she is feeling about complaining about her. As for ever meet her somewhere, i don't think that she will throw me a "rock", i think that she will respect me.

And you just sealed your fate in this matter. You know nothing of her. She's attractive. Love can never, ever be built upon physical attraction, because believe me, I've dated many a women on the basis of attraction. And that kind of "love" dies down. Very quickly. After you realize that everyone is the same on the inside, the outside no longer matters; thus, don't waste your time with someone who lives eight hours away and will likely never waste her time to entertain an audience such as yourself. Even if you are attracted only to Japanese women (I don't want to be stereotypical here, but put a Japanese person next to another Asian person from another country and I can't tell the difference), then go after the attractive but casual Japanese lady. You stand a chance on that level.

EDIT: Fixed some grammatical errors.

I don't see a reason why it would increase the delay. Also, make sure the plugin you're trying to use, is actually working (use unmodded ff7.exe, so you're sure it's not because of this fix).

Well, I don't know why it would, either. But it still runs delayed and choppy. I started over with a brand-new ff7.exe and it's still the same. The fix, I guess, doesn't do anything.

But that was just for wave output. Direct sound output still won't work, and maybe that's because of FF7Music...? I could try direct sound output without this fix and see what happens...

EDIT: ARGH. FF7Music, flat out, refuses to work with me on my computer with direct sound output. It gives me an error, stating that it "Could not set cooperative level". What does that mean?

I've tried nearly every other output plugin and they don't seem to cooperate well with FF7Music. It could be that I am using miniPSFs, though, and the output plugins may not support those very much.

I'm pretty sure there is a TNT version of the current Cloud-to-Sephiroth patch that should work with Windows XP...?

Maybe not...? Use the "search" function to find the topic.

83
Huh...

I try to play with the Direct Sound plugin and it doesn't work. It seems to play, no delays, except for only a few seconds. After a small amount of time, FF7Music returns this error that says "Could not set cooperative level".

So I try the Wave output plugin. It does not fix the delay, almost seems like it makes it worse.

Any other solutions (or plugins to try)?

My home contains about two computers and two laptops (me and my brother both have PCs - my mom has a laptop she uses here sometimes and my sister has a laptop and uses it whenever she's home). We networked them all together - wirelessly, apart from my PC, which has the main modem and wireless gateway, so it gets a hard line.

Since we have so many hard drives, I just put copies of my super, ultra important files on each computer. That's what you said you were going to do and should do. To add to that, buy a backup program. When I got my new PC, it came with a backup program service, and I've used it, and it lets you restore your old hard drive. Very useful. Sure, it costs money, but it's way useful.

That should keep your "important files" safe .

Excellent work, gentlemen!

I really appreciate all that you do. You guys take time out of your lives to help better a legendary game.

EDIT: Oh yes. I forgot this.

If you guys would like it so, I could redo your readme, but I'd retain all of the original information within the current readme. I would just spruce it up a little, add some ASCII art, do a good formatting job, and perhaps throw in an FAQ section, if you'd like. That might help cut back on some of the frequently asked questions this particular thread seems to encounter oftenly.

I could do the readme with my changes, send it to one of you guys (or all of you), and see what you think. Of course, I'd add/remove/change some parts that you'd like changed, or removed, etc.

What with Reunion's newfound ability, it seems, to "import" .p files, you may not even need to put yourself out for an AC Cloud model; we'll just be able to import it.

Whatever you say...

90
Noodle22 haha

It's kind of strange to just say that you're in love with her, though you've never had any communication with her.

91
Wow...

That's almost impossible, how bad your week has been.

92
Then you must've just blasted through the game, because Star Ocean's AI is so much more effective and efficient on Universal than on Earth (or whatever they called the default difficulty). And you cannot tell me they weren't faster. And their damage didn't do a lot more. My ass, they only attacked more.

Whatever. I still highly dislike these "hard" mods, but you can do as you please.

93
I created one of these a while ago. Unfortunately, I couldn't complete it, because Guard Scorpion kept owning me at level 18 or lower. I figured most people aren't too willing to level up to level 20 in the first reactor, so what was the point of doing the mod? ... The thing about your mod is, you really need to test it from the beginning and bench mark character levels for bosses, like I did in mine for Guard Scorpion. Truth be told, the hardest part of the game, save for a few bosses, is the entire game up until around mid-disc one, since you don't have too powerful materia, accessories, weapons, etc.... You only have levels and strategy to go on.

To be honest, in my opinion, leveling up has to be the most boring thing this game has to offer. While I mean no offense towards you or your mod, that's all these "hardcore" mods do--make you have to level up insanely for parts that used to be easy. I'm sure some people would like the change of pace, but when I look at "harder difficulties" in RPGs, I tend to think of the Star Ocean series: when you increased the difficulty, the random encounter rate increased, enemy attacks damaged more, their HP multiplied itself, their speed increased, but most importantly, they were smarter with each increasing difficulty!

THAT is what these "hard" mods need...smarter AI. Not many people like to sit around for hours, mindlessly fighting battles to gain levels to beat a boss that used to be easy (which only adds insult to injury). Personally, I don't know how to increase the enemy AI, but I have a few ideas of what could be done. I think you'll attract more people if you make it so bosses will kill you because they outmanuevered you, not because they overpowered you. You might have to gain an additional level or two, not six or seven.

94
Who cares regardless of whether or not you can actually see the damage printout of either Angermax or Highwind?

If the damage is in the thousands, then you'll recognize it after the sequence. Only problem is, you'd have to test out each increasing hit to make sure it works; otherwise, you'll probably get the empty 3D model problem-thing.

General Discussion / Re: FFVIII wants my death...
« on: 2006-07-11 21:53:57 »
Um, well, if you've unleashed the garden already, then I'm pretty sure you have to go to Trabia first. I know when you get to Trabia, you have to go to the basketball court after talking to Selphie's friends, whom tell you she went there.

97
speaking of which... what happens when the bomb timer gets to 0 and you're not out  :?

98
I'd love to know how you will live through Comet 2.

Christ, 9600 hit points on Guard Scorpion? That's not strategy, that's called mindlessly casting "Bolt," using absurd amounts of Potions, and using Limit breaks like mad.

A total overhaul of the enemy AI script is what's needed. Make it so, say for instance, you're fighting an extremely difficult enemy. You'll want it so this enemy casts spells like Haste and Regen, and knows how to use them, don't just start the enemy off with the spell's effects. Also, it would be interesting (albeit extremely difficult, I'm sure) for an enemy to analyze an individual character and play off of their weaknesses: Use spells against the target's current elemental background or hit them with a powerhouse if the character has no elemental affinity. Or...if they have low defense, hit them with a big physical attack, so the damage potential is extremely high. Also, with a spell like Death, if you set a character to be immune to it, they should inherit anti-death qualities; in other words, healing moves should damage the character; Life spells kill them.

Plus, I dunno if you realize it, but this idea has been done. Something like the hardcore patch or something. It doubles like everything.

99
I don't see the point in moaning about it; if you want to voice your support for administration that breaks most human rights, goes into offensive war to gain strategic foothold and some oooooooil - while lying about their reasons, tries to set up Orwellian society on the grounds of catching all those evil terrorists, wants the sea levels to go up by few meters if that means competitive edge for their own heavy industry, tries to boss everyone around, has this perverted notion that the latter is even their God-given duty, etc... I think that you should be prepared to hear what other people will say about it.

It is easy to support such things, if you have to deal only with your opinions. :-D

No, you won't get tiniest bit of sympathy from me.

PS. Perhaps even more to the point, why the hell would anyone even want to post how great their country is? If you have ever wondered why some people consider Americans obnoxious, wonder no more.

I knew I'd get reamed out by YOU, if I did it. And hell, I didn't even post anything. I didn't mean to imply how great the country is at large, but how great it is to me as an individual.

But I said it once, I don't want to hear it. Little that did me, as it's already been posted...why do you insist on doing this? You know as well as I that regardless of what you say, it won't change my mind any.

Archive / Re: Slow World map FF VII
« on: 2006-07-07 02:58:54 »
I used to have this problem where I'd go onto the world map from a city (or otherwise), and it would take nearly two minutes to load. This occurred all the time on the world map, even before and after battles. The more time I spent on the world map, it would get progressively better, though, until I'd exit the world map for a period of time, and then it would slow down completely bad.

Now, I was using a PIII 500 Mhz, 64 MB RAM, and a nVidia TNT 8 MB VRAM (I've since upgraded to 384 MB RAM and a GeForce FX 5200 128 MB; plus I got a brand new computer since then, too); a computer with enough power to run this game. This was also pre-high resolution patch and any other major patches, for that matter. I tried nearly everything, until I found compatibility mode. I set it to Win98/ME compatibility and everything began running seemlessly. So try changing compatibility mode (right-click on the ff7.exe icon->go to "properties"->go the the "compatibility" tab->set compatibility mode to "Win98/ME" compatibility).

Of course, this fix is only relevant if you're running Windows XP. If you would have provided us with some specs, we could be of further service :-P.
