FF8 DLS won't d/l
« on: 2001-10-20 23:34:00 »
Trying to download the FF8 DLS by Samuel Slight... http://lightning.prohosting.com/~techd/ffsf/download.pl?samuel_dls+http://blake.prohosting.com/ff8dls/ff8dls_v135.zip is the link.  It brings up a page "This file is hosted by prohosting, click on the link below to download" and if I click on the link, it just loads the page right back up.  Its been like this for several months.  I've tried multiple browsers.  Any ideas?

It is working for me, too. What's more - it is quite fast. It may be your configuration - try change something in Internet Security Properties (dbl click on the "(o) Internet" in the lower right corner of IE - or are you using something else than IE?). Or maybe it is your ISP. I remember my friend had similar problem when they set up their server incorrectly. Try contact a friend that is using the same provider.

It seems that the second or third page has the download. This is done by prohosting to prevent leeching. My advice: click until you can download. I've sucessfully downloaded it.

I'm pretty sure this has something to do with Proxy server settings.  If you're on a Network that uses a proxy, it'll cache Prohosting's "Click here to download" page, and keep loading it.  Some ISPs also use Proxies (Check Control Panel--> Internet Options--> Connections.  Click on the name of your connection in the Dialup Settings box and click settings.  If the "Use Proxy Server" box is checked on this page, your ISP uses a proxy(or if you use DSL or Cable, I believe it's in the LAN Settings at the bottom of the Connections page.)

You can have it bypass the proxy server for certain Site prefixes under the Advanced option.  Just type http:// in the "Bypass the Proxy for sites that begin with" box.  I'm pretty sure that'll cause it to by pass the proxy for any site on the web.  (Although you'll probably notice that sites you often go to will load slower without the Proxy's cache . . . you'll probably want to get rid of that setting once you download the DLS.)
