Getting 7th Heaven to Work on Wine

Hi! I specifically made an account here to ask if there was any update regarding this situation, or mayhaps some more concrete Linux or Wine-friendly support in the near future? Unfortunately, 7H is just not having any of Wine 6.21.

Hopefully there will be more interest in maintaining some form of Linux support for the three of us who use it.

Guys.

If 7th Heaven doesn't work for you and you have no problem with using The Reunion, just go this way. Installing Reunion is crazy simple and it works, at least on Mint 20.3.

Here is a tut on how to do that.

You need The Reunion, obviously, and a tool called protontricks, which is a wrapper for Winetricks running commands for Proton. You also need Wine with Winetricks. Protontricks was in the Mint's repo, I'm not sure about other distros though. I had to install additional depenedencies before protontricks (python3-vdf in my case), but in the end it works like a charm.

Have there been any updates on wine versions working?

Szynek:
Hello,

I've been trying to run this on Fedora (MATE, X11, GPD WIN 2) using various methods, but it doesn't work for me. What bothers, me that I almost got it to run (I think) but I just have no idea why it crashes (?) in the end.

So first of all I tried installing game via Steam, then just installed 7th Heaven directly from *.exe - obviously that didn't work (as 7th Heaven didn't have needed components, and probably couldn't even detect the game).

Next, I found this instruction, and followed it as closely as I could. The issue is, that when I supplied linked directory to the game as prefix, it always gave me the error about one of the *.reg files being read-only (in Lutris); I reckon this might have to do with the fact for some reason my Steam files are in `/home/user/.var/apps`, which is a hidden directory (?). I tried giving it +W, +X, eventually even 777, but that didn't't help. I also tried setting up custom Steam libary/storage, but that didn't allow me to download anything (maybe needs physically separate partition, and I cannot just specify some random folder on the same partition?)

Finally, I tried replicating the steps from OP using protontricks manually; in other words, I did something along the lines of:

--- Code: ---protontricks 39140 dotnet452 # then installed it using wizard
protontricks 39140 uninstaller # then installed 7th Heaven itself
protontricks 39140 winecfg # then performed rest of the configuration
protontricks-launch --appid 39140 "/home/path/to/compatdata/then/exe"

--- End code ---

The result is, that 7th Heaven itself start, I can download mods, everything is "fine" there (aside from the fact that some of the UI elements are flickery); the issue, is that when I try to start the game from there (even without the mods) it is just stuck in endless loading, without any error: https://imgur.com/a/lDKh4F6

What's weird about it, is I can start the game from Steam, and it even shows the changed logo, so the exe itself seems to be patched and working; but obviously that doesn't help me much, since I don't know any way to start the game with mods without going through the launcher.

Could you help me with that? It's really annoying as I have no idea what's even causing this, it just gets stuck like this with no error or anything.
