Title: [FF7PC] Improved original style avatars with transparency (1.1)
Post by: minmin on 2012-08-03 23:27:48
Something I started a couple of years ago but tired of and didn't finish (until now). I know transparent avatars have been done a few times before, but I like mine better than the others I've seen.
Basically these are the improved avatars from Team Avalanche (IIRC?). I tweaked the colours and lighting to more closely resemble the originals, and gave them a transparent background. The Chocobo is not the original but from a different concept art, and the young Cloud is basically the black and white version of the concept art the original icon was based on, overlayed with the scaled up original avatar to give it colour (which is why it's so smudgy). Hope someone likes them.

Edit: Small fix. Young Cloud's icon had white background.

What is the "Color" transparent that you used?
as far as the game uses images. TEX and exported to BMP for modification, and BMP format does not support "transparency"
Please would appreciate if you say to me like you done to the images did not have the background color but as a transparency in PNG

I wish to apply in this (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13341.0)

Although for FF8 not think it is much the Diferença since both use images TEX

Well I didn't use any special "color", these are just ordinary PNG's with real transparency. And you are right, that doesn't work with FF7 "out of the box". But Aali's custom opengl driver allows you to use PNG's of (I think?) any size, transparency and everything, in place of the original TEX files. Just put them in the appropriate subfolder under your mod folder and the game will use them instead. I think Aali's driver supports FF8 too, so the process might be the same? I can't test that though since I don't have the PC version of FF8. I hope that answered your question?

I actually really like this. Great job

Thanks!

Using minmin avatars as a base i tweaked them slightly to fade out around edges and added my own chocobo avatar

Where do I put the avatars? I cannot find a folder which contains them.

Put it in : Your_ff7_directory\mods\Your_modpath\Menu
Example : C:\Program Files\Squaresoft,Inc\Final Fantasy VII\mods\My mods\Menu

Install Aali's custom driver first
