Can't help you on X-2, but for 12.... it is based in the same world as FF Tactics (Ivalice) and the character styles are based of of the other great game ahead of its time called "Vagrant Story"  (PS1 game with incredibly good PS graphics)

XII has a great new battle system also, you walk around and are jumped by monsters (no more screen breaking etc..) when your fight is over, pick up the items that fall... still keeping my ears open for more

Then again, you could realize it's all just a game? Maybe that is just how they wanted the game to be?

I like the whole not enough production time, most game release dates are pushed back quite a bit, although them adding the call shop ability would make it seem more like they planned it that way

You say that with such a negative attitude, animevamp is only breaking the law!

My pc warned me when I was about to install his patch, windows detected it trying to change my files.

Good news, those motherboards are dropping their prices faster every month (Hyperthreaded is coming into light more and more.)

And about the audio codecs, there are a couple of way's to get to them

1: device manager
2: control panel --> sounds and audio devices

I checked no, conflics nothing... but... I was wondering... Is anyone using: AC3filter   ?

General Discussion / Save anywhere in FF7?
« on: 2005-01-29 15:22:55 »
That would involve findind a console within FF7, or writting one to force the game to run it.

And I have to agree, I don't use trainers and cheats. Theres no need in the best RPG ever made!

General Discussion / Hunting for "Story" people
« on: 2005-01-27 21:20:29 »
I don't know if this helps... but... in a cut-scene in the game (I only had this happen once never again....) you see Cloud and zack escape from the lab in the shinra mansion, they are then riding in the back of a truck, and just on the outskirts of Midgar (they are being chased by shinra also) cloud tries to pull zack a little farther, yet I believe Zack plops down and dyes... Zack and Cloud are the specimens that escaped and made the finder nail marks in those tanks (for anyone who didnt know :P)

edit: mod delete this before people post if i did wrong

General Discussion / How fast did you beat FFVII?
« on: 2005-01-27 20:02:30 »
Just for the sake of clearing things up....
To beat the game riddiculusly fast (im not giving a specific time, there are alway's differences in the odds/Exp you get per battle.)

If you concentrate on using cloud and alway's giving him the better weapon, withought leaving the main story, you fly through the first disk in litlle time....(((DISK 1 is the longest disk in my experience)))
Shorter for the second disk (lots of luck to you)

When Ultima weapon flyes out, take an hour or less if your luck is good, and kill him (gets clouds best weapon) and cloud should be a fairly high level just for following the main story, after ultima is dead, grab Slash-all in the forsest and use that. (Do not master it, wasting time, flash no good for bosses anyway.)

When you get to the battles in the end, Eg: bizzaro sephiroth, slash all attacks all the pieces, you should do around 6k dmg or more at this point in the game, and he dies withought ever neading to switch parties etc....

Then summons are also effective, yet they waste time (physical attakcs are best, then have one char always cure if needed), even if you never get bahamut zero (a whole 2 minutes to get him if you followed the main story to a "T" and not miss the huge materia.) I
f you want to spend an extra few minutes, with slash-all, ribbon, and a cold absorbing armor... you can easily get omnislash in half an hour

dont forget, put long range on cloud, and stick him in back row,

this means skip getting vincent and yuffy, speed through the text, dont ever visit fort condor (before huge materia makes you) dont stray from the main story, hell you can avoid most of the treasure chests in the game to! many are wasted footsteps  :P  (why take a minute walking for a potion or  pheonix? they do add up....)

I have just installed Final Fantasy 7 on yet another system.... this time it is 1.8 Ghz, ASUS Radeon 9600 se, ALC650 (on board sound) and when I try to run the game the sound skips and performance is slow on any setting, and when the game is minimized, the sound returns to normal until I go back into the game.... (im guessing video card issue...) I have tried many, MANY fixes and patches, nothing seems to work, and all my drivers are up to date

any ideas?

Do you mean the skin weights and such? or skin textures?

for the way the skin reacts, that you do need to remake a skeleton and then bind it to your model

for texture, you would have to make a new texture map

(outdated so I have no idea if anyone will reply,,, yes im a 3D artist)

I'm just trying to be help full, making it all in one easy to read post  :D

The funny thing about FF7 that I just noticed is how it runs 100% glitch free on my old 650 mhz laptop (ati rage moblility video card)

but has slow downs (sound skipping)  with my 1.8 ghz P4 ///  radeon 9600 SE (by ASUS)

the card seems to be trying too hard to function, (if game is minimized, the sound starts to run smooth) I am going to try and find a solution, havnt heard of this problem yet.... thinking windowed mode may help....

Archive / Final Fantasy 7 / Windows XP / Year 2005
« on: 2005-01-25 02:08:27 »
I just found this board, have been playing FF7 when I was younger, and now that I have grown older, I was wanting to play it all over again... to my surprise, it was not as simple to make it run compared to when I was 10... over 8 years ago... anyway, here are some problems I ran into (mostly because I wanted to learn how to fix more, some on purpose...)

Problem: game doesn't even start, crashes on first video or any video

Possible solution 1: make sure you either install one of the following: direct show drivers from your install disk, or the upside down video patch (try the directshow alone first)

Possible solution 2: I have tested the game in XP in many different way's, some systems you can right-click, and under compatability set it to windows 95,

Possible solution 3: make the video's play off your pc:
step 1: open my computer and the FF7 cd:
step 2 open FF7 folder then right-click on Movies --> copy, choose where you want them and right-click then paste:
step 3 start menu --> Run --> regedit --> Hkey_local_machine --> Software --> Square soft inc. --> Final fantasy 7
when you click on the ff7 folder in the registry, you will see a file called movie path --------------- D:\ff7\Movies   --> you must change this to the location of  your new movies folder

I have also found a way to force ANY video card to play in D3D mode regardless of the failed test    :: WARNING ::   if your card is not compatible it will have funky collors and no backgrounds

step 1 open the registry editor
Hkey_local_machine --> Software --> Square soft inc. --> Final fantasy 7 --> 1.00 -->   (what I was using at the time) clicking on the + next to 1.00 will give you three choices, click on Graphics (1.02 if you installed there probably is no point....)

Where it sais driver,    0 = software mode    1 = direct 3D mode
all you need to do is click and change it, the game will run regardless, you just wont see much if it is not compatible

RECOMENDATION either get the PS version or find yourself an older video card, for Instance I just dug through my pc extra's box and fished out a nice specimen: VooDoo 5500 *solem tear* ((if only they made the original release dates)) sorry, back on topic now...))

I have also been hearing that many people have no problems with their games in Windows XP wether service pack 1 or 2 pro or home edition,

Other problems include not enough Virtual memory (seems like a memory leek can easily occur in the game) to add more Pager file (PF) you must right click My computer --> Properties --> advanced --> Perfomance settings -->  advanced --> virtual memory --> change --> add the amount and choose set.

many people have put up to 3 gigs of PF and then had no more problems (make sure you have around 6 GB free on your HD or you might cause problems...

My conclusion, FF7 is not the most stable of programing, it is very picky depending on how much Ram you have, how big your Pager file is (PF), what type of video card you have, or driver, and also the processor
And any combination of these

Hope this helps, any comments would be apreciated, if Im off in what I have said, tell me and I will fix my errors
