did you edit your save game w/ black chocobo 1.2>? if so that could be your problem, also if that is the case you should get 1.2.1 (that includes the bug fix for event crashing)

Does Not Run Properly on wine, get flickering at first then when it starts i get just random colors for about 2 seconds then black and it stops (idk is it showing me the stats? there). it;s prolly due to me not having something in my wine prefix (dx9 is about all it has).

i like the layout if only because for the first time i can read the input boxes, the old version had a bad habit of applying my system color scheme to the page, and forcing a black text so it was grey on black. kinda hard to read

did you by chance edit your save file w/ black chocobo v1.2? if so its a known bug (crashing xxxxxxx event) and has been fixed in 1.2.1.(use that version instead)

save games are located in the ff7 install folder in a sub folder called save (C:\program files\Squaresoft,Inc\final fantasy VII\save is default)

OK everyone.. heres the deal. PLEASE back up your saves. if you break one then you can send me your unedited save along w/ the edited one.(so i can compaire them). also if you use a modified kernel i can't promise ne thing will work in quests/ or save location, and while im on the subject, don't touch those parts. there a WIP not ment for a save ur gonna use lots untill those parts are finished.(they are the only beta areas).

i have ided the bug. and am working on fixing it, untill then it seams most quests will be broken.

UPDATE: please go get version 1.2.1 of black chocobo. it has that bug fixed

Additionally, if you're fairly new to programming, issues such as vendor lockin, proprietary standards, marketability, language flexibility, etc. aren't going to be things you have to worry about anytime soon.

i feel this is the time when vendor lockin happens the most when people start with vC++ or C#.

That's a good goal, better would be making a Wii game for WiiWare maybe but it's still a good start, hold on to it and you'll succeed.

Yeah, that's not exactly going to happen, I don't have a dev studio, nor do I have X amount of experience, or Y amount of people.  Nintendo is stupid strict like that.

i completely agree, nintendo is crazy w/ that stuff i once called them (for fun)and asked what i needed to write software for my ds legally and distrubite it. (where i started w/ devkit) and they told me i have to have working software for there system before i would even be able to be considered to code for their platform. then depending on my businesses financal situation they would then consider giving access to the tools needed.of course after i had paid for it. oh and fyi guys wii homebrew is the best homebrew for any system. the power of the wii is really in the homebrew, not the games.

don't waste your time leaning visual basic or C# unless you plan on only developing apps for windows. if you want a cross platform language Qt is C++ based,can be used w/ java and python. and has most the features that people like about vb (i.e ez gui design) also its GPL free.i highly recommend that everyone here learn and use qt for their projects. again C# and visual basic are a WASTE of time unless you only want to program for windows.

as for good c++ books, i can't really remember any, in school we used C++ for You ++ (love that title). basicly if i book is going to force you to use microsofts api's or AP headers its not a good book, since you will find that once you try to make a program with out them you have to relearn all the api calls.

for wii homebrew get devkitpro, and learn C not c++ most of the wii stuff is done in C. (very similar to C++ but lacking some features of C++)

that concludes my 2c worth of input.

p.s for gfx don't bother w/ directX again unless you only want to code for windows , learn openGL

idk i really have not played like that in quite some time.. i do remember spending a few days out there getting people up to around level 60 (also working on gaining the one or two limits i was missing). also aali brings up a good point about eskills, get them and get them earily, they are most helpful

i like to do the bulk of my leveling out side of nibelham, the wolves there seam to provide decent ap and exp. but there are quite a few places before that you can also level, junon, the forests, etc.

there is a bug that i know of when adding items, its already fixed for the new version.  also you shouldn't touch the PHS pool unless you want to change them , since the program does not edit values unless you change them. if you can send me a copy of your save i will look in to it see if i can find out where it may have gone astray.

EDIT:: v1.2.1 of black chocobo is out. It Contains an important bug fix that will stop breaking your saves,and a few other less important fixes.

The Subversion page has been busy, both Vegeta_Ss4 and I are working on a few things.among them are.
  • New: Materia Tab that is aware of you materia's levels and skills With A Cleaner Inferface. (for 1.3)Watch Demo Video(link removed)
  • New: save/load that will be much less code and prevent future bugs similar to version 1.2. phase 1 finished (this will come in 1.4 or 1.5)
  • New: Improved Item tab (have not started this yet, 1.3)
  • New: World map save location soon. (for 1.4 most likley)

Its been a little bit since i have done any updating here for black chocobo.
i have been setting up a sourceforge page for black chocobo.
the new page is http://blackchocobo.sourceforge.net ,thanks to  Vegeta_Ss4 for setting up the web page parts :)
there is also svn for sourcecode checkout, that way vegeta_ss4 and i can work together on this project (wanna hack w/ us? let me know) that being said try to check the sourceforge page for more updated info, to post bugs, etc.

  • fixed:bug reported by jaffdamann, that would under some cases would force you to add materia to item slots when editing.
  • fixed:bug in char id switch when vincent or cait sith are cloud/sephiroth

very nice, i can't wait to see where this leads. i have a few suggestions.

Name Section
for this i only have one suggestion and that is to lose the Title, as armorvil suggests
Barrier section.
perhaps you can do one bar, and for magic use a green and for physical use a blue (or any two colors), since ff7 supports some transparency i would set there alpha to like 50% and lose the border, that way if they are not active they take up no space also by using the transparency you would be making a third color when both are active. or keep the  double bars but lose the border so again when there is no barrier the area is empty.

hp/mp
i am not a fan of the hp/mp bars when there are no numbers. i think that this will be the hardest area to do only because there are a million ways you can do it each no better then the other.

limit/atb
combine them in to a two high block and drop the borders :-*

thats very odd indeed. i have been working on battle.lgp for the reconstruction sheet.There in no Zack Battle model,If the battle model is there it must just be cloud, w/ a different (undiscovered) texture applied for his hair, there are a few clouds in battle.lgp. We have battle.lgp completely IDed. Infact its just missing a few pictures(well its missing them all for now since my server is off, till i get a new HD). as for a menu portrait i also have not found that but i have not been poking around menu as much as some others around here perhaps one of them can confirm this.

if your gonna do that w/ game tweaking then i suggest renaming it to "releases" or something cause game tweaking sounds a bit loose as a section. just my 2 cent work . oh and thanks for the kind words about the black chocobo thread :)

oh and i completely agree w/ sl on limiting who can post there either way, only problem i see w/ that is new programmers putting there stuff in that section. would need to be "blessed" first so they can write there.
