Running Bootleg does a complete install.
Installing Bootleg over and already Bootlegged FF7 is only partially supported.
If you've previously installed Menu Overhaul or modes like Aeris Revival and you attempt to run a subsequent Bootleg without those mods, you may experience issues with the game.
Reinstalling Bootleg should work as long as your aren't trying to disable Menu Overhaul or Mode Switching with the second install.

so if bootleg does a complete install, then there would be double copies of the files in my FF7 dir..
and it waste my memory? or is it just copy and replace it?
and would you mind to tell me what is fresh install?
sorry for the stupid question

No files are duplicated.  Reinstalling Bootleg overwrites the existing files.
A fresh install means a brand new installation of FF7 from the CD-Roms.
Using a fresh FF7 install is the optimal way to install Bootleg.
You can also create an FF7 image by zipping the contents of the game folder immediately after installing the game.
Bootleg will extract the files from the FF7 image during installation.
This prevents any conflicts that might arise from reinstalling Bootleg.

There is a problem with the Avatar Presets in Bootleg 0038
When selecting a preset from 1 to 10 (the first preset is 0) Bootleg installs the wrong avatars.
To fix this issue, first select the preset, then select CUSTOM.
Then Bootleg will install the displayed avatars.

If you have the avatar .png's, you can copy them into:
    .\Final Fantasy VII\mods\Bootleg\menu

I'm getting two error logs popping up during install, I believe during the Menu Overhaul installation part.  Both of them say the same thing:

Error in startmap: Incorrect number of entries: 2/11
Error in blackbg2: Incorrect number of entries: 24/42
Error in blackbg3: Incorrect number of entries: 18/28
Error in blackbg4: Incorrect number of entries: 54/72
Error in blackbg7: Incorrect number of entries: 16/25
Error in blackbgi: Incorrect number of entries: 10/17
Error in blackbgk: Incorrect number of entries: 16/21
Error in elminn_1: Incorrect number of entries: 16/17

I remember people mentioning that Menu Overhaul conflicts with the Hardcore Mod and Aries Revival, is that what these are?

EDIT: My Brat Code is: 01110601010100000001201101111

EDIT 2: Also, the battle backgrounds appear to be messed up.  I'm in the Mako Reactor and the battle back is the Church.  o.O

EDIT 3: And Guard Scorpion was a single MP enemy that died in one hit... time to stop playing and wait for help!

The Menu overhaul messes with the mod path in opengl.cfg

U have to copy all the crap from DK to bootleg and then change the path to bootleg in opengl.cfg

The errors codes are harmless according to DLPB

Definitely some issues with the difficulty mods, don't know that issue well because I just play vanilla

Try reinstalling from scratch and not doing the Menu Overhaul til after Bootleg completes, I believe PB left MO off his standard configuration. The version of MO changed just as this release of bootleg came out.

Bootleg 0038 supports the newest version of Menu Overhaul M005a.
Configure and install Menu Overhaul with Bootleg.
The errors reported in the log are expected.
They are related to changes in touphscript and the difficulty mods.

The issues you are experiencing with the enemies and backgrounds are most likely related to your install path.
DO NOT install the game to a system folder like PROGRAM FILES or DESKTOP.
Instead, install the game to a folder such as C:\GAMES\FF7.
When the game is in a system folder, Windows (especially Vista) UAC/DEP diverts some files to a virtual folder.
This causes conflicts and mismatched kernel and scene files.

The game was installed in C:\Games\Final Fantasy VII

I did a full reinstall, this time installing Mode Switching - All Mods instead of just Gjoerulv's Hardcore Mod.  It was slightly different, new enemy encounters that did far more damage but once I get to the screen with the save point before you plant the bomb the only encounter becomes Hedgehog Pie's in the Church background and Guard scorpion was still just a single MP in the Church.

Is there a chance that the patched Kernel for Menu Overhaul, Aries Revival, and Hardcore Mod is screwed up somehow?

theres definitely an issue with the modpath, tho. MO uses DK modpath and everything else is in Bootleg, so most of the things that are modded dont work first time u run it. You have to fix the modpath first. I notice some of the files in the bootleg modpath are duplicated in seperate places, too. like the limits, i don't understand the same file being in 3 places but the only one that works for me is changing the limit texture thats in the textures folder and not the modpath. also just thought id mention theres still a lot of blinking faces throughout the game. Thats the only straight up glitch ive seen really, but obviously some of them have been fixed since 0037. Guess I could make a list I just always assume someone else will and I don't want to waste effort.

another thing i found interesting is the covered up options in the included opengl.cfg file for internal resolution. They are #d out so they don't work after installation, but by taking the #s off and fixing the res to double my res of 1920x1080--3840X2160, made the menu system look a lot smoother.

There is a kernel conflict when installing Hardcore, Aeris Revival and Menu Overhaul.
There are a lot of kernel combinations.  Thanks for putting up with the glitches.  Y'all are great beta testers.
I reintroduced flashing faces when I updated many of the field models.
Any assistance in identify glitched models is very helpful.
There are also glitched magic textures.
I left duplicates of textures for fault tolerance to accommodate for missing files and flaky systems.
Bootleg could really do a much better job of cleaning up after an install.
This project slops together a whole bunch of mods.
Killing bugs takes a team!

Don't install any mods before nor after Bootleg.

Make sure that you've installed Final Fantasy VII to a NON SYSTEM FOLDER.
Do not install to PROGRAM FILES or DESKTOP or any other system folder.
Instead, install to a folder such as C:\GAMES\FF7\.

I'm working at fixing all of the flickering faces that I reintroduced with 0038.
If anyone notices a flickering face, please post the info here!  It will help me immensely.
There are too many models now!
Also, I'm trying to track down the lookup table conflict that is causing the wrong bad guys to appear.

EDIT:
I've corrected the bad lookup table for Hardcore.
Now the scene and kernel files are matched correctly.
Enemies will now appear in the correct scenes for Hardcore mode.
I've also fixed the reported flashing faces.  Please post all identified glitched models!

.0039 (working)    +Updated Glitched Field Textures: UUTA1
    +Updated Bootloader GUI
    +Fixed Asmodean Barret Bad Animations
    +Fixed Missing Trish(aka Mike)s custom model pack.7z
+Fixed Avatar Presets Installing Incorrect Avatars
+Fixed Flickering Faces and Glitched Field Models: Squallff8 - EWJE (Condor Female), EWBD (Condor Male), GWIF (Rocket Town Man), ACGD (Barret), BIDB (Tifa 15), BUAC (Tifa 7), CAHC (Tifa Flower), CQGA (Aeris 5), DIFF (Aeris 10), ENAB (Cloud 13), EQIB (Tifa Sword), EOEA (Sephiroth Book), BGJC (Sepiroth Sword 2), BBAB (Sephiroth Sword); PRP - ABDA (Cid)
+Fixed Lookup Table Error with Hardcore
+Fixed Incorrect World Map Hair Styles
    +Fixed Missing HDR Bloom Settings

I'll release this update sooner rather than later.  As it is, Hardcore is unplayable.

DriveMeCrazy,
Did you install any mods before or after Bootleg?
Are you launching the game with Bootloader?
Have you made any changes to the ff7_opengl.cfg file?

Bootleg appears to have installed correctly.

DriveMeCrazy,
Did you install any mods before or after Bootleg?
Are you launching the game with Bootloader?
Have you made any changes to the ff7_opengl.cfg file?

Bootleg appears to have installed correctly.

no.. just run bootleg, check what mod i want when asked, and wait until it finished.. thats all i did..
i never bother with  ff7_opengl.cfg because i dont want to ruin anything..
and i always start the game by bootloader..
hmm okay i'll try to fix it and tell you if i've found the solution.. thanks by the way :)

EDIT : ah yes.. i just remembered.. i've download black chocobo to convert my save file to emulator save file.. so i can use save state to see different scene with different answer.. and also to find a specific item.. like hunting ether that dropped by mono drive in train graveyard..
could it be that my avatar, save point, etc wont change because i use black chocobo converted save file?

Hi, I'm new and could use some help with my install. I have tried to follow the instructions given for installation, but my game keeps crashing in the first battle (with the 2 Shinra soldiers next to the train), usually after a couple of blows have been traded.

I installed FFVII from the install CD, into a non-system folder, C:\Games\Squaresoft, applied no other mods, then ran Bootleg from BFE, with all the mods in the same folder. Bootleg appeared to run correctly, the game starts up fine and looks good although the battle screen is all misaligned. It has crashed every time within a few seconds of the first battle starting. I've attached both the APP file and the start of the Bootleg file from the installation directory.
I have not installed any other mods, either before or after running Bootleg. I am starting the game with the Bootloader. Using the safe settings on the Bootloader don't seem to help, though I have yet to try in compatibility mode.

Could it be that I have selected a different resolution setting? (my screen is 1366 X 768 so this is the size I use) I have updated to the latest video drivers.
System info: 32 Bit Windows 7 Professional, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card, 2.80 GHz AMD Athlon II X2 240 processor. 40GB plus free HDD space.

P.S. Sorry for not knowing how to use the forum tools and get the files to appear in a smaller box. As I said, I'm new here.

Further update. Running in compatibility mode for Windows 98 the Bootloader won't even start. Safe mode on the config file, plus all the other options checked under compatibility mode don't help (Run in 256 colours etc.) I have tried an old save game I had from another install and starting from a different place it all still works beautifully up until the first battle, then crashes. None of the other options in the bootloader regarding battle graphics seem to help.
There is also a crashdump file, not sure how to attach it here.

I am considering re-installing & re-Bootlegging, this time leaving out the Battle scene enhancement LGP and both Magochocobo LGP files to see if that works better. Anyone have other ideas?

I would suggest doing a clean install and under Bootleg options, only check Battle Scenes as PNG. Leave Battle Scenese as LGP unchecked. I've only played the opening bombing and a saved game around Wutai, but all is good for me so far.

Blueseamonkey,
Don't use the LGP textures.  Use the PNG's instead.

Drivemecrazy,
An incorrect save game will crash the game during battles.  Start a new game.  Don't use a save game from one mode-- like normal-- with another mode like hardcore.

Thanks for the hints EQ2Alyza and PitBrat. I just tried re-installing with no battle art (as I don't yet have the PNG files downloaded.)
It didn't crash and seems to be running smoothly through the battles, but all the text and graphics on the right side of the battle screen - the player names, limit break bars etc. are still very badly misaligned. I never had this problem with my previous install (where I had the avalanche GUI upgrade installed, but not the menu overhaul, I was also using an older version of the OpenGL mod.)
I'll try and add a screenshot later.

Time to start downloading the PNG battle-art files, maybe by the time they are done FacePalmer will have finally downloaded too, its been 2 days so far and is telling me at least 2 days more. The full Bootleg experience takes a while to download on a 3rd world internet connection! Looks like it will be worth it though so I will keep going. Huge thanks to all those who have contributed to these mods.

The battle text is most likely misaligned because you've enabled the 9999 break limit in ff7_opengl.cfg while also using Menu Overhaul.  Disable 9999 break limit by using the configure option in Bootloader.

Ahh, so you only need to enable it in one place? That makes sense, I wondered why I kept having to turn the option on in different places. Thank you very much PitBrat, will give that a try!

hi, i have been trying to get this to work, but i'm having trouble with running the game. i got through bootleg and everything seemed ready to go to play, but when i tried to play, it first wouldn't run in fullscreen and reverted to windowed mode. after that, i got up to the opening credit screen and pressed enter to get to the new game/continue screen but that's when it crashed. i can't figure out what the problem is can anyone help please? here's a link to my crash files: http://www.mediafire.com/?2a468osdualymb8
