I noticed a while back you said you were waiting to release this until a couple new mods released their new versions. Do we need to re-download any of the mods that we have had since 0038? Thanks PB!

Couple questions:

1. What exactly does "Bootleg Reworked" in the FMV Cutscene setting install?

2. Does "New Spell Names" conflict with the Retranslation?

So I'm trying to redo everything with Bootleg 0039 and when it gets to Recovering Remix files it just stops and goes back to BFE. I've run it as admin and everything and it's still doing it. Any clues?

Few "bugs" with the BFE:

Under Player Tab:

General:

when I hover with the mouse over Sephiroth, it says "Alter the appearance of Vincent's field and battle model".

Cloud's Swords:

There is no "No change" option. I must choose between Slayersnext, Millennia and Millenia + Mike. Is it intended?

I have a bunch of questions, two of which are already asked here above by nickblames.

1) What does "Bootlegged (Best of Show)" means (under Models)?

2) What does "Bootlegged" means (under Textures) - specifically how does it differ from the "BlackFan + SL1982 + FacePalmer" option?

3) What is the difference between "Battle Scenes as LGP" and "Battle Scenes as PNG" and what do they do exactly (under Texture)?

4) What can we get more informations about the "New SoundFX"  (under Game)?

5) What is "Kranmer's Master Control" (under Game)?

6) Is it possible to keep the music system just the way it originally is? I have an excellent SW1000XG Midi card which is able to play MIDI file of such nice quality that no PSX music is really needed. If this is possible, what option should I select (under Game)?

7) What do "Style Switcher", "Status Icon",  "FFX Battle Style", "Olde Style Map" do (under Menu Overhaul)?

Finally let me thank you for having created Bootleg and its Front End, PitBrat! It was really an excellent idea and it's wonderfully executed.

My only suggestion is to perhaps expand on the menu infos as there are many options that aren't so obvious in what they accomplish. The visual cues are really great, when available.

My first attempt at installing the Bootleg was not really lucky (using Windows XP SP3):

first of all, my Antivirus (Avira) popped up three times telling me it was denying access to three different files.

Later the installer hung while decompressing FacePalmer's files. I was forced to reboot.  :(

UPDATE: I repeated the exact same procedure after reboot, making sure to have the antivirus not running this time and the installation went fine. It was not clear to me though that to make the game start I am to run FF7 Music?  :?

I've tried installing this for a couple of weeks now, but since 39 was just around the corner I thought I'd wait for it before posting anything... And I thought I wouldn't have too. Every single issue I had with the game was fixed by 39... Every important thing anyway. The Barrett model I used however seemed too have some issues, it would jump forth like it was gonna meele attack or steal something and then shoot (also for some reason they went down on their knees even though they were at full health at one point), which was midely anoying so I reinstalled too change model. Now the game don't work... Like at all.

The only thing I changed was the model, from Timu+Kleyon+Asmodean to Timu Simisu... And now when I try too start the game it just wont start up, and when I run it in safe mode it crashes. Reinstalling for whatever reason doesn't work... Which is really wierd if you ask me. So... Help?

New version doesn't install for me...at all.

I think i did everything right, i first made a fresh FFVII install to a non system folder, and then i pasted "C:\games\Final Fantasy VII" there, where i installed it. Then i run boot bootleg with BFE (as admin) and i get this:

Quote
Checking Operating System . . .

Laying Bootleg Edit. . .
Found Existing FF7 Installation.
Please Remain Patient While Files Are Restored.
Extracting FF7 Image . . .
Image Restored.

Checking Operating System...
Missing ff7.exe
Bootleg Aborting . . .

Removing setup files . . .
Please remain patient . . .
Completed Clean up.

Bootleg Aborted!
There was a problem during installation.
The game files might be damaged.

Please do a FULL install of Final Fantasy VII to a NON-SYSTEM folder.
Make sure that all MODS are in the SAME FOLDER with Bootleg.exe.

Close all open FF7 files and folders before starting Bootleg.

Run Bootleg.exe as ADMINISTRATOR.
For help use the command line switch-- Bootleg /?
Drücken Sie eine beliebige Taste . . .

Don't use an FF7 Image.
The image you've specified is not valid.

Install the game and run Bootleg without using an image.
Leave the image text box empty.

One more issue.

After the installation is completed, I choose Play FF7 from the FF7 Bootloader Window. It quickly opens a Dos window where I have barely time to read something about "affinity" then it closes itself. The game of course does not start. If I do it again, what happens is very similar. A Dos window opens up for a fraction of a second and then nothing.

I can still play though if I click instad on the other icon that the Bootleg creates (Final Fantasy VII) which annoyingly enough tells me that there is a newer version of ff7music available (?) - pushing yes doesn't produce any result. After choosing No, a new window (FF7 Music?) minimizes itself to the task bar but if I click on it, the game finally loads without me having even to push on the Play button of the FF7 Music menu.

Is all this supposed to happen?  :?

Thanks, now that this problem is solved encountered the next problem  :-X

When i open the custom key configuration menu, the game crashes (every time). It sucks, because i have to use the standard button layout and i want to have the button layout like on ps1. Maybe it's because i'm using the german translation?

2. Does "New Spell Names" conflict with the Retranslation?

They don't conflict, but ReTranslation has it's own names that will override the "New Spell Names" option.

So I'm trying to redo everything with Bootleg 0039 and when it gets to Recovering Remix files it just stops and goes back to BFE. I've run it as admin and everything and it's still doing it. Any clues?

Download and recheck your Remix file in the Mod Listing.

1) It's his personal preference to what fits best for the game.

2) Same as first question.

3) The difference is how the textures are stored. LGP files are stored in the ./data folder and require a compiler tool e.g. ulgp to edit. PNG files are stored in ./mods and can be viewed as is. PNG is the better option because they apparently run smoother and are also much easier to find and edit glitched textures.

4) It mostly deals with the sound effects in battle and on the menu screens. It's not information to read, but you can view any videos on my playlist to hear the new SFX: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB3794695EC5A2382&feature=view_all

5) Krammer made tools e.g. Any CD Loader, Style Switcher, Always Run Toggle, and Save Anywhere . Krammer's Master Control compiles all these separate tools into one, and also added an FPS changer.

6) I don't know if it works, but you could try selecting PSF Midi and just exclude the file "ff7music_install_15113.exe" from the Mod Listing.

7) You can find those options with previews under the list here: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13212.msg183581#msg183581

Both of you need to check the Sound Driver under the Sound Tab within FF7Config. If it is blank, then it will cause the game to hang like Salk described. Set the option to your primary sound device and the game should start properly.

Thanks for your help but the Sound Tab correctly reports my audio card. I got to choose it during Bootleg installation so it can't be that.

But speaking of sounds, there is a weird bug: in the scene in the train just after blowing the Mako reactor, there is no sound whatsoever! I am speaking about the scene where the whole avalanche team is wondering if Cloud made it. There should be the sound of the train, but there is nothing. There should be the sound of Barrett smashing his fist (twice) but nothing. Then when Cloud joins back, they move to the next wagon and by some miracle the sound is back.

@Salk: I had that happen to me as well, seems to be a bug. However I'm on CD2 already and haven't experienced anything similar yet, so it seems to be just the beginning thats bugged.

Download and recheck your Remix file in the Mod Listing.

That did not work for me, problem still there. Oddly it does not install the bootloader.exe as well and the only thing that is happening is the "Sprinkler" stuff before remix should get installed.
I use the german version of FF7 could the problem lie there somehow?

I have not tested the German Version to know, but every guide I have read stated support for the US English Version. They were older guides, so that's unclear what it supports now compared to then. There is an option to translate to German though.
