General Discussion / A new look on the FF7 Projects.
« on: 2010-06-22 10:49:57 »
I have been keeping a close eye on everyone's work here on the FF7 projects aka music, graphics, etc. Basically everyone is taking something made for the PS1 and PC and trying to up it to today's capabilities. Problem I see is that the only way to make the only parts so far that haven't been updated (battle backgrounds, field backgrounds, room background pictures all from the resizing) would be to maybe think outside of the box and do this a bit differently.

Instead of spending 6 years remodeling every scene in the game (would be easier to remake the game in some sense) why not use the originals that we all know look godly sexy at a 320ish size. By that I don't mean Play it on your PC REALLY close up even though when I tried it was...tear inducting beautiful.

I mean this, The DS or 3DS..or psp even though im not a fan. I know it seems a bit stupid to say but the pixel ratio isn't that far off and if the font and user interface system was updated to say..FF IV DS standards I see no reason why it couldn't look gorgeous.

Of course I realize that means a lot of editing and work I could not even comprehend to make it even play at all on a DS but in the end everyone could keep nearly 80% of the original data without a need for all these model and background edits.

Basically, trim down the game files, optimize the camera angles and battle system, change the UI and font to DS standards, maybe degrade or remake the characters to take less data but still look fine (FF IV remake didn't look all that bad at all, a good comparison), and...the hard part, recoding the whole game to run on the DS..or psp type system..heh..not that easy after all..

yeah, just saying if someone were to put all their effort into recoding the game for a handheld type system instead of putting all that effort into remaking 75% of the games graphics it might actually be faster and more efficient. Just guessing here though.

Thought I would throw it out there, I know I just walked into a whole "Dude your wrong because" but I want it x3

First off, if this topic deserves to be in a different location I do apologize.

On to the topic.

Today I decided "I should go ahead and do a clean install of FF7 with all the updated patches that have came out so far", I had about 6 month old patches.

Before I uninstalled FF7 I just happened to take a few screenshots because I mentioned to have been playing FF7 at that moment on mumble and they were like "wow ports suck!" so I just couldn't resist showing off a few screens with Better looking graphics than psx version heh.

Here are the screens.

That should show you my PC has no problems running this all.

Now my problem is, I just did a clean install. Everything is running off the HD like it was before, movies included. I downloaded the latest Aali patch (not sure if people call that a patch or custom drivers or what), Installed the latest drivers, opened up the thing and switched to custom driver, it says I was ready to go, i clicked ok and opened up the settings file and edited that up to my liking and started up...

Well~ It seems that the original drivers are overriding Aali's drivers if I had to guess, It is not only jagged and all over the place but the colors are acting ...16bit? I would provide screenshots but no matter WHAT I do in the settings file it does not change anything at all, meaning I cannot get out of fullscreen (for some reason i can only take screenshots out of fullscreen).

I have tried all the settings in the settings file and found that nothing changed it at all. I have done everything to the letter and it should be working just find but it seems not to.

This may be an Aali's custom driver problem or something else but whatever it is I am stumped. I am sure that at least SOME of the Aali's custom driver is working seeing as its going fullscreen and stretching to fill the whole screen seeing as the original drivers didn't do that.

I am running Vista 64bit and none of my PC settings or graphic card settings or drivers have changed from the time I took those screenshots.

General Discussion / FF7 Music Remastered Edition Question
« on: 2010-04-15 05:44:12 »
I got my music all set up and working fine except for like 6 or so songs that did not loop very well because of 4 second silence times at the end of them and such problems, like a few songs missing and etc. I wonder if anybody has made an updated music pack that had everything already fixed up just right because my friend is wanting to get his ff7 out and start rocking it again but it takes like 3 days to explain what to do already and the music thing will take forever to upload my edited music for him.

I have been curious for a while now, I loaded up the original sized background images on my PC and noticed just how AMAZINGLY beautiful they all were and wondered why it ended up being so blurry with such a lower quality. I figure its because the original size is like 320x240 or something and its stretching it across a huge screen.

Would it not be possible to remaster those base background images into a higher size like, 3 or 4 times bigger than the originals thus when loaded up onto a higher resolution it wouldn't change the quality at all?

I know nothing of how things work so forgive me if I am asking a stupid question.
