Looks like another case of uncleaned registry keys. Have you used Bootleg in the past?

Yes I used Bootleg but I think I used the registry cleanup tool.

How I can competely clean the registry and do I have to reinstall 7th Heaven?

Indeed this seems to be a common issue but I believe it is because even if people use the clean registry you provide it actually doesn't work and remove enough references so when people use the GC it still gives them a mess up once they launch. I know this my self from multiple tries using your registry file provided before just realising I had to search manually to delete them so maybe add to the guide how to manually delete all references?

Don't worry moundar I had the same issue when I first started using 7th Heaven and I didnt have bootleg installed for over a year. click start and then type regedit.exe to get the default windows registry editor to appear. Then press Ctrl+F and type in final fantasy (that is the search term I use as I only have FF7 installed) and search, delete the registry keys it find. To quickly move onto the next found one press F3 and then complete this till the task is done. I believe if you changed the directory to say C:\Games\FF7 you made all need to do a search for "FF7" just to make sure you get all instances.

After this method sometimes the GC will do everything normally apart from let you choose the movies location and will autoselect the drive the disc is mounted or in. Again just search the registry after you have done the install of 7th Heaven and set it all up till you find a variable called "Movie Path" and edit it to match the game path it should be, ie "C:\Games\Final Fantasy\data\movies\" Make sure you put the slash after movies ;)

I am curious as to what functionality is lost when Chaos 7 is put further down in the Mod queue. I know that I lost HD weapons when I tried, but "sword-on-back" and dynamic weapons still appear to work, and, in return, I can use different battle models. I mean... I like Chaos 7, but I'm trying to find a better balance, and I'm willing to give up a little of it in return for greater functionality with other mods.

Is there anything significant or game-breaking that has been noted to occur when Chaos 7 is moved lower?

I found the source of the my Problem:
Menu Overhaul

I made a complete FF7 wipe with an additional manual registry cleanup.
Reinstalled FF7, the game converter and all wanted mods in 7th Heaven.
And the same problem that I have to fight with Yuffi in my first fight when I start a new game.

So I tried to activate all mods one by one and with Menu Overhaul the problem occures.
Next i activated all mods but Menu Overhaul and the first fight was normal against the two soldiers.

So why I get those problems with Menu Overhaul in 7th Heaven?
I really want to use Menu Overhaul.
Should I install it separately and activate/deactivate all other mods within 7th Heaven?

Anything above in the list takes priority, so since nothing else uses the dynamic weapons, that functionality will load okay from anywhere on the list. CHaOS models will be overwritten by any other models of the same type (battle, field, world) that are loaded above CHaOS, so that is why you're getting those results. We've been focused on a more pressing issue with the Motorbike Chase minigame crash, but once that is figured out (7H bug) then I can move onto dividing up all the CHaOS features and putting them into the correct mod categories. What I mean by this is dynamic weapons can be put into the Battle Models - Weapons or Tweaks and Cheats category as an option to enable/disable, this way you're not stuck wanting that feature but dealing with the issues from the models' load order.

As you can see, having too many mods loaded and all separate from one another causes incompatibilities and confusion as to why it's incompatible. 7H is a great tool, but it has a few obstacles that I'm not sure can be solved. If the community were more active in modding, rather than playing, then we could have IRO packs built with a mix-and-match preset of mods. I don't think we have enough active to do this though. Most people just come and go, wanting their quick fixes and never return after.

This doesn't seem possible. It's all Dan's (DLPB) work exactly and is perfect on my side. Installing it separately will only give you the same results.

What is your load order?

Did you choose a Gameplay - Difficulty and Story option? Which one?

Haha, sorry, I may be part of the problem then. But thank you for the quick response. It really works almost perfectly, so it's not at all a pressing issue for me, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't screwing myself over later by switching that stuff around.

No I don't use Gameplay - Difficulty and Story.

The load order was:
Battle Models - Weapons
Alphabetically thereafter

I don't use Red Werewolf, CHaOS or Gameplay - Difficulty and Story.

When I'm at home after work I test Menu Overhaul without any other mod.

Now I tried to start a new game with only Menu Overhaul activated in 7th Heaven and the same problem - I have to fight with Yuffie and died after one attack from her.

Should i redownload Menu Overhaul? Redownload did not solve the problem.
Or what can be the reason for this?

I started a New Game on my desktop and laptop last night, and the 2 soldiers were in the battle.

Did you download and use the two tools from the FAQ section to clean your registry?

Yes and I manually searched for all final fantasy keys with regedit afterwards.
If I install Menu Overhaul manually(from Tifa Bootleg pack) I do not have this problem.

I changed the game language to english and now the Menu Overhaul is working, at least at the beginning.
So again the german version caused the problems I had (had problems with FF8 too).

Is there a way to get Menu Overhaul working with the german version?
Otherwise I have to play in english

The MO is 247MB big but the download says it should be 77MB. I will decompress it and see what can conflict with the German install.

Thanks Kaldarasha.
I read the ReadMe in the MO Installer. There is noted that it should only be used with the english version of the FF7.exe.

The gamesconverter unifies all game versions to the English file system.

To the MO:
Chunk 9 are the backgrounds, so they are not needed. The Kernels could have a wrong table for the scene.bin and are only important for the retranslation. I'm not sure if it was the intension to use the retranslation as well, but I would kick out the chunks (I guess chunk1 was actually the plan to use  ;)) and the both kernels and compile them to a separate mod.

Btw. is it normal that I don't see no download progress until it finishes the download?

I seem to remember the menu textures not working without chunk 9, but I'll give it a shot. The kernels were pulled from within the Reunion compile, so it's possible they are for the ReTranslation project. I could also try installing Reunion without the ReTranslation project selected and use those kernels.

It's not normal. We had a bug with this in the past, and I mentioned it to Iros. It was fixed, but now it's back again.

The Kernels aren't needed, they will only conflict with other languages or mods. Also any difficulty mod does make them redundant anyway.

Make the retranslation as a separate option but it shouldn't be on by default.

Gotcha, makes sense. ReTranslation isn't added yet though. I was waiting for R02 to be released, which looks like this weekend DLPB and Luksy will finally be finishing it. I was going to make it a separate option as well, but if it involves the kernels then I wonder how I'll do it alongside any difficulty mods because of the priority list...hmm.

EDIT: Took out chunk 9 and the kernels. Looks good to go, so I'll have this updated in the Catalog as soon as I figure out how to make patches that delete files.

Unfortunately I have a bug which prevents movies from being played...

When I start a new game it just skips the movies, goes to a black screen and shows error message  "d:/FF7/Movies/ not found" or something like that, although that's NOT the path I have specified. In fact I specified "C:\spiele\Final Fantasy VII\data\movies"... Do you know what could have caused this and how to fix it? Here is my log file:

You need to specify the movie path in 7H and in the FF7 config (either in registry, or in Aali's config? You will have to check exactly where).

Changing the movie path in 7H does not change where FF7 looks for the movies, it only lets 7H replace the movie files if you set it to the same path that FF7 is configured with.

Sometimes the game converter auto selects the drive you have the game mounted to, in fact it always does this for me no matter what and has only ever not done it once which is fairly annoying but easy to fix.

open registry editor in windows, right click the start menu, select run and type in regedit.exe.

then click edit, then find and type in "final fantasy", press F3 to keep searching the registry till you finally see one the has "MoviePath" as an editable field and double click the location and change it to whatever your game\data\movie\ path is. Make sure you put a \ after movie or it adds whatever movie it needs to the word movie instead of looking in the folder for it.

I have now changed the registry key, and the game has applied the new path but movies still won't play. Could it have something to do with he fact that the movie folder is empty? There is a 4GB sized "c6530ff8-dc04-4e5e-9908-4a0590f5e2f1_Media___Movies_1.0.iro" in my mods\7th Heaven folder though.  I don't know what to do now... I pretty much have done everything according to the tutorial.

Yeah it is activated and I've chosen DLPBs movies. The other mods do seem to work, such as the enhanced backgrounds, models, animations, battle backgrounds, etc. only the movies won't work. Even if I disable and then re-enable the movies it won't work.
