Ribbon in great glacier/gias cliff area?
« on: 2004-10-07 23:10:24 »
Okay, for some reason, it seems like common knowledge that one can aquire a ribbon at this point in disk 2.  However, no guide i refered to has any info on this, and a 2+ hour playthru of the whole area has turned up no results.

This bugs me, because I'd liek to think i know just as much about gameplay as anyone else, yet i seem to be the only person to have never found a ribbon in the snowy/cliff area.  And yet, at the same time, no one else has been able to tell me where they supposidly got thier extra ribbon (I'm thinking they actually didn't get it, and this is just a widely spread rumor)

Now, if i have to morph something, then that's one thing i've not considered trying... damn me and my low-level characters...

For Extra Ribbons, just Morph Ochus in the battle arena

If I believe so, off the top of my head, Ribbons prevent you from obtaining any status ailment.

Also, he said he cant morph, beats the point of morphing Ochus.

Yeah, if it weren't for those darn status effects the battle square would be so much easier.

EmperorSteele, when you enter the first cave, you will find that you need to solve a mini puzzle to get past the area (involving rolling rocks and falling icicles).
This is all from memory so don’t get mad if something is slightly off with the events.

Anyway, there is a part where you have to get a rock to roll down an ice slide or such to get it out of the way.
When it is out of the way you cross an ice bridge (the bridge is horizontal and thin and you cross from left to right).  The bridge leads up (after it leads right) and goes to the next area.
Well, instead of crossing the bridge and following the path up, cross the bridge and keep going straight right, into the wall.
The wall isn’t actually there and it leads to a chest.

I think you can guess what is inside the chest.

There are exactly two (no more and no fewer) enemies who can be morphed into Ribbons: Master Tonberry and Ho-chu.
To get needlessly (but interestingly) specific, Ribbons protect against Darkness, Paralyzed, Berserk, Death Sentence, Petrify, Slow-numb, Small, Frog, Silence, Confusion, Fury, Sadness, Poison, and Sleep.

The same thing you mean.
Kill the enemy with the “Morph” attack.

Pumpkin Pieman: morphing is another way of getting item from monster. If you kill monster with morph attack you will acquire its item ( its usually different from one that you win ). But its not easy, because Morph attack gives very little damage (around 100-500 points IIRC) so you have to damage enemy precisely with normal attacks to make him have just few HP. Or you can use Coin command (i never used it though, im greedy:) ) which can give precise amount of damage.

I'd say its very hard to kill Master tonnbery with morph, because he has around 44 444 HP, and he can kill you quite quickly.

Btw you get Morph command from yellow Morph materia. And ribbon is a must for Battle arena.

Lspiro, you sonuvabiatch!

Actually, i didnt even need to kick the boulder down.

I FOUND IT!

Thanks.. I'd never seen that little side cave before, but, just now, i kept an eye out on the side and i saw something, so I just hugged the wall and... yeah.  I'm amazed anyone was ever even able to find it in the first place, though.

Ok, so, these Ho-Chus.. where besides the battle arena do I find those bastards?  Again, another "obvious fact that everyone knows that Steele missed" =/

Ho-chu only appears in the Battle Arena and only after Meteor has been summoned.

He is one of four 8th-battle enemies you can fight, with Serpent, Sea Worm, and Ghost Ship being the other 3.
The chances of fighting him are one in four, and you must make it to the 8th round to fight him at all.

Morph deals 0.1× damage (one tenth) of your normal damage (and some enemies absorb it if you set your Materia correctly [I will leave this puzzle up to the viewers]).
For Morph to work, it must be the killing blow.  This is usually hard to do on tough enemies since they have so much HP and Morph deals so little damage.  This is the reason they hide valuable items behind such monsters.

For your technical knowledge, Ho-chu normally has 4,900 HP.
In the Battle Square (the only place you can fight him), his HP is doubled to 9,800.  Using this number you can keep track of the damage you deal to him and then save Morph for when his HP gets low.
