Troubleshooting / Re: Error in AMD Catalyst 13.4

I hope this is the case for all the questions we've gotten about red triangles on startup. Good job finding this out  :)

Please continue testing further releases and report to me if shaders begin working again.

Try running instead of walking. This has been reported before, and I think that's the work around to it.

jus a quick one, whats with the 3 red triangles instead of a menu screen at start up, any 1 had this problem?

If you're using a Radeon video card, then try one of the complex shaders in Bootloader Configure. If that doesn't work, disable shaders completely.

Just wanted to ask if this Mod only works with the purchases version of FF7 and no other ones such as free downloaded ones.

There are no free downloads unless through piracy. You do need a purchased game though for all the mods to work properly. The 2012 re-release is very cheap and is supported by these mods.

It's on a seedbox, so there will always be seeding. I'll turn my personal seeding on tonight when I go to bed. It should be downloaded by the morning.

Thank you RedXell, that's perfect. The rerelease is actually the best test. I will edit my guide to include support for German, Spanish, and French using this GC  :)

Hi EQ2Alyza,
Only English, German, Spanish and French...
And that's only "Theoretically", as I myself own not any "old" version in languages other than German.
With the rerelease it works in those languages.

Excellent. I will include links to buy the English (EU), German, Spanish, and French versions in my guide.

not really...
The GC copied (and convert) the appropriate country-specific files as they should be with the English version.
I.e. the Gflevel.lgp (as example) is copied to flevel.lgp.
Any changes made earlier by bootleg to the "flevel.lgp" will be lost ...

I was asking if Bootleg can be run after your GC is used, not before. If it converts Gflevel, Sflevel, Fflevel to flevel.lpg, then Bootleg should be capable of reading it. Can this be confirmed with a test on your German version please?  :)

Unfortunately, I do not know exactly how bootleg react if there is already a "mods folder" exists.
In principle, everyone should move the contents of all subfolders located in the folder "mods" in just one subfolder (eg "Bootleg").
Aalis driver may only use one subfolder (of my knowledge).

From what I read somewhere else, your GC configures Aali to read mods from a subfolder called "DK" so all that would need to be done is changing the configure to read from "Bootleg" instead. I just need a test subject to confirm or deny this...*hint hint*  :P

What I forgot to mention ...
GC does not work with WinXP, I used the command "CHOICE" in the script.
This command is normally not available in XP... :)

If that's the case, then I might change system requirements to Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. XP is outdated at this point, and anyone using it will probably have too old a computer to even handle the mods.

I am the same way. They are pretty neat, but don't mix with the game volume too well. You will need to reinstall everything to get original sound effects back. Sorry, Bootleg doesn't "uninstall" anything. It only installs or overwrites, so if anything original game is wanted back, we can't provide those files (copyright). It's all up to the player owning the game to have access to those files.

2633
I laugh at this because I used to hate computers for how loud they were. Pretty neat usage of old technology!

I don't own a non-English version to test this.

1) Does it convert ANY non-English version to a 1997 English version?
2) If yes, I assume a Bootleg installation can be done afterward without conflict?
3) If Bootleg can be used, then the cfg needs to be edited to point the mods folder to DK instead of bootleg?

I need to edit my Bootleg Installation Guide to include this  :)

Hey there. I'm working on my first attempt at using bootleg. I've downloaded every file in red to run the game in full mode, except for mo.exe... I've been searching for mirrors and such, but keep arriving at the same dead links. I've also tried torrent sites to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I give credit to the author for making such an expansive mod, but I do agree with the OP on describing it as a bit "cheesy" at times. You are only level 30 at the first Shinra visit, but wait until later on when a large amount of status ailments are added to almost every enemy. It crippled my strategies for gear/materia layouts because I was limited to Ribbons or Wizard Bracelets + Added Effect Combos.

  • Ribbons block Barrier/MBarrier/Wall, so my defense/resists had to come from Tranquilizer Sadness and Elemental Armlets. Often times I ran Dragon Armlet + Ribbon + Sadness effect by default because I simply couldn't sacrifice dealing with 3+ status ailment attacks over greater resists or defense.
  • Wizard Bracelets + Added Effect allowed more flexibility, but it was a bit of a grind to go that route because Added Effect has one of the largest AP pools.
  • There are several key battles in the game that have insta-death added in which cannot be blocked by any death prevent measures (that I could find).
  • Ruby's throw-off-screen ability shows up in several occasions as well.
There are several really GOOD battles though, so I know it can be balanced. To me, a good difficulty is one that figures out the perfect balance between gear/materia layout and offense/defense rotations vs. enemy AI. This is a turn based RPG, so once these factors are figured out, it becomes "easy," but honestly, all turn-based RPG work this way. That is the nature of the beast. I don't think increasing HP, damage, and random kill factors is the right way to make something more difficult.

I will be making a full FAQ when this is finished, to stop these repeated questions being asked.

Some of the commonly repeated Bootleg questions are impossible to fizzle out, despite having a written guide AND a video guide AND an FAQ AND a Search bar AND an entire thread with others asking. I've actully had a few send me PMs stating that they downloaded the mods and need to know what to do next...... Luckily I'm a patient gal lol. Plus, I do find it somewhat easy to get lost in transition considering how much there is to read/download for new users.

So anyways...expect the expected because "those questions" will still be repeatably asked. I think you know this

come on DLPB wuts the hold up

It will be released as his 4000th post. I don't know the significance behind doing that, but he's made it clear that is what will be done. He's probably dying to respond to this hehe

It's been awhile since I have looked at your models. Great work so far, keep it up  :)

No, I wouldn't delete anything. It's 17gb because I needed to included every possible option that could be used.

Yellows are fine. In fact, you will have all yellow and green when it's done correctly. Reds are not okay. I assure though, every mod is included, so it's definitely something you setup wrong. Check the Installation Tab and be sure that all the locations are pointing to the correct directories. That is literally all that needs to be done to get rid of reds.

The only other thing I can think of is that you still have all the mods extracted from the .rar, .zip, .7z files, which is wrong. It will not change the colors if that is still the case.

2642
I saw your comment on my YT video and honestly thought you were trolling because the video literally shows every step. But, here you are, so I'll help  :)

First off, Do NOT extract the files you downloaded. Leave them as is. Literally the only thing you need to do now is read the written guide and follow it carefully.

I found a fix to my Access Denied error!  Depending on your OS/Computer the fix may be slightly different, here is what worked for me:

-Right click on Computer (or My Computer) and go to Properties.
-For me (windows 7) I scrolled down to the section titled, 'Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings' and click Change settings
-Go to the advanced tab, and click on Environment Variables...
-In the System variables field, find the variable named 'Path'.  Select it and click edit.  -This should be a long string of directories from C:\ each separated by a semicolon.  Make sure that C:\Windows\system32 is present.
-If not add ;C:\Windows\system32 to the string, and BAM!  No more access denied!  8-)

Have you tried this yet?

2644
Yes. I know I shouldn't do it (and I shouldn't have to, considering I have full admin rights on this machine), I went under the System Administrator in Windows 7, just to check, and it STILL gave me the error that access was denied.

Template: I tried your suggestion, to install on c:\games\ff7 and it keeps reading from the old directory. Something in the registry is still hanging on and surprisingly, the game just stops installing at 64% and acts like it's done. I'm hunting through my registry now to remove anything manually.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I forgot to change the 'install directory' on BFE. Trying it now elsewhere. Nope. As of right now, I can only assume it's a fault of the install, as no registry entries are ever written. I click 'Maximum Install', it goes to 64% on the bar, and stops. Yet, it runs with the opengl driver, though I get an error that it can't read the config file.

Are you talking about "Maximum Install" with the game installation? Try rebooting Windows into Safe-Mode, then install the game.

Bootleg Questions / Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg
« on: 2013-05-05 04:05:46 »
Quick question.

Just installed a bunch of mods and seems to be working great.

However, not a huge fan of the "New SoundFX" mod. Anyway to back that one out?

There is none. You will need to start over with a fresh install.

2646
No, one of the steps that I did was remove it from the partition. It wasn't even in the same directory, but apparently on the same partition made it finicky enough that it refused to. It also didn't seem to like the zip that I had done with bootleg 0039 of last year. Without it on an already modded game and it'll run.

I always had issues with the zip installs I made in 0039, so I stopped using that tool. Is it working now?

2647
Now I have a weird issue. When I start the game everything seems normal, but there's never any music. All the sound effects seem to be working but the music never does. When I start the tast manager I see an error posted behind the game that says "Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000." I noticed sometimes the music wouldn't start right away so I'd go to the world map or enter a town and it would pick right up, but now it never does. I checked ff7music.exe. It looks like it's configured correctly, and the sound test works in FF7config.exe. It's weird because I don't think I ever changed anything. Worked yesterday and now nothing. I tried rerunning bootleg and no change. Any ideas?

Which music option are you using?

2648
EDIT: I'm not sure what did it, moving the mods folder to another partition entirely, or that I told it not to use the backup that I made... Probably moving from between the partitions.

So are you saying you moved everything to the same partition and it's working now?

2649
Interesting. I look forward to seeing how this turns out  :)

I played with 3840x2160 internal on a 23" computer monitor. I am rather unfamiliar with anything beyond that, so perhaps double it and work your way down? It does affect performance a little bit.
