Bit uncalled for, no?

Highly disrespectful man.

His description of her was perfectly accurate.

So who didn't see it coming? No-one?  Yeah, called it.

Only one part of this surprised me: "Amy Winehouse found dead, aged 27".

Christ on a pogo stick! Was she that young? She was only three years older than me and she looked worse than most 50-year-olds. She could've been one of the "after" pictures in a crystal meth awareness campaign.

Let's forget the terrorist attack in Norway, there's far more important news now.

Isn't it?

Who is Amy Winehouse?

A "singer". I don't think she ever made it big on your side of the pond.

Let's forget the terrorist attack in Norway, there's far more important news now.

According to various news agencies, some drugged up slut who claims to be a singer has died.

It is unknown whether this picture was taken before or after she died.

What I do mind is that he hasn't updated that site for a year.

This is a legitimate complaint that needs to be taken seriously.

One of the big problems for FF7 PC modding/fixing is that there's so much outdated information around; the are probably still people using the Chocobo patch and such. Since this bloke is still active and ranks high on Google, he has a responsibility to take more care to keep up-to-date.

Because the far-right have never indulged in violence, ever, and anyone who suggests the Norwegian authorities must start investigating Neo-Nazi groups must be part of a Stalinist plot to takeover the BBC and steal our precious bodily fluids.

I do wonder if you argue for the sake of it, sometimes.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Were you about to use it for political point-scoring?

The fear isn't a clampdown on the extreme-right per se, it's the fact that an astonishing number of people have quite a "broad" definition of what counts as "far-right" or "Neo-Nazi". Some people would even put UKIP into this category. Anyone for whom he has expressed support is tainted (it's true that this happens with all terrorist attacks, but it's usually not as dangerous because, as a rule, groups like al-Qaeda tend not to voice support for legitimate politicians and parties).

Wait: so you're not dead? ???

Also, if anyone knows of a way to put 3 summon monsters on one summon materia, that would make me happy, but that's a dream, and I don't know if it's possible.

You can't do it with Wallmarket, that's for darn sure. Summon materia can only allow one attack; you'd need to seriously mess around with the hard-coding for it to do anything else (by "seriously", I mean that it wouldn't simply be a case of disassembling and changing one hex value).

EDIT:

Should this be in general? That last bit makes it sound like more of a Reverse Engineering question.

There's certainly gonna be changes. This will most certainly spawn plenty debates.

There certainly will be!

My fear is that the left will shout "that's what Anders Breivik said!" during every political argument.

The BBC says that he was a Neo-Nazi of some description; he might also have been a Christian fundamentalist. Let's see how long it takes before this gets used for political points scoring from the left and from the American gun lobby.

I was going to make a thread about this last night, when only 17 were reported dead.

torrent?

You might as well. If you're going to break the law, why not just download a film, rather than streaming through the netflix middleman? In for a penny, in for a pound.

Have anyone obtained the Japanese version? Imo, it's better simply because it's shorter. Apparently, according to the "western" supernova,  they live in the same solar system as us. Also, planets can be destroyed and respawned easily (Sephiroth can destroy the same planets multiple times).

Pfft, when you're as cool as Sephiroth and your move is as hilariously OTT as Supernova, you don't need astronomical accuracy ;D

On the topic of the "kill Edea mission", one thing that is way off is when Quistis decides to go back and apologise to Rinoa. Coudn't It wait? I mean, they were on the spot, ready to do their job.
All of a sudden Quistis have regrets on how she scolded Rinoa earlier. As the fine leader she is, she commands both Selphie and Zell to follow her back to the mansion in order for her to say "I'm sorry". Of course when they get back Rinoa manages to lock 'em in (Yay, these guys are suppose help saving the world, and you lock 'em in. You go girl).

All of these problems can be explained in one word:

Women

All of these problems can be explained in one word:

Japan

In fact, I'm surprised that the SeeDs sent to save the world by killing Edea were so old. Usually, these kind of important jobs are left to people who have't started puberty yet.

The whole thing with Edea's age is, as NFI-kun said, a result of the fact that sorceresses don't age very much. That one isn't really a big problem. Neither is Edea killing the president. She probably had support from the Galbadian military long before that.

However, Mako is right about the GF/memory loss thing being weird. The game explains it, but it's a pretty obvious "get-out" for a story team who only realised at the last minute that it would be odd for everyone to have forgotten about their experiences. This kind of nonsense is common in FF (just like Tifa saying "I didn't want to cause any trouble" when asked why she didn't call Cloud out on his BS).

The prisoner with the weapons is also pretty odd, but it's another RPG trope; gameplay seems to beat realism yet again.

Releases / Re: Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth (PSX and PC)
« on: 2011-07-15 04:31:02 »
Love this project :D
Please, could you guys make a better armor system is Rebirth? I mean, in the original VII it was sad, only bracelets for equipment :( I really hope you guys will think about an armor system overhaul, maybe keep the bracelets but add armors, helmets and gloves, it should make VII much better :)

If you're talking about equipping several kinds of defensive gear at once, a la FF9, that's impossible.

rekonq FTW!

Wait, do people actually use those Konqueror browsers?

I thought they just came preinstalled on most distros because of something to do with FOSSfaggotry.

Windows is the best program for doing this.

If using Windows is some kind of problem, then yes, WINE can run some Windows programs. However, don't expect it to run everything, and don't expect it to run anything perfectly.

Also, bear in mind that WINE is a Linux program and support for OSX is unofficial; according to the installation page on the wiki, you may have to do some fiddling.

Completely Unrelated / Re: Bitcoin Discussion
« on: 2011-07-11 23:30:26 »
I have 1 lingering question.. What gives a bitcoin value. Is it really just because people give it value?

That's how currency works. What do you think gives a $1 bill value?

Also discussions about bitcoins are explicitly FORBIDDEN at overclock.net . I wonder why? What is so bad about them to FORBID any discussion about them?

Surely the answer to this should be obvious? bitcoins are "controversial" and topics about them are liable to turn into a shitfest. The mods are probably tired of cleaning up after the flamewars.

Anyway, you should be wary. There was a huge crash in the value of bitcoins recently, after someone "stole" bitcoins and dumped them, and the belief that the currency is unstable and vulnerable was proven to be true. Since the currency is so small, it can be greatly affected by this kind of incident.

I think that bitcoins are the next €uro. A currency gleefully adopted by the hopelessly optimistic, but doomed to eventual failure.

Okay I take it back. I don't care for Chrome at all. I had 10 Chrome.exe processes in my task manager.

There's a good reason for that.

If Firefox crashes or hangs, you're stuck.

If Chrome does it, only that one tab has a problem. The other tabs are safe.

Okay so maybe Firefox does take more memory than Chrome, but when you have 8GB of ram like me, you can't really notice a difference.

Good lord! What on earth are you doing with all that RAM? Running Win7 in a VM?

This thread has made me want to download Chrome.

You should! If you spend some time getting used to it, you'll wonder what you ever saw in Firefox.

EDIT:

One of the many interesting things you can do with statcounter is show daily stats; this lets one see which broswers and OSs are being forced on people at work, since one can see the big rises and falls in market share at the weekend.

As expected, XP and IE do badly at weekends, whereas Win7 and Chrome do well (Firefox's market share doesn't change as much, which suggests that it is used by some businesses, but Chrome isn't).

It would seem that Windows 7 has already overtaken XP in Japan when it comes to home use (you may need to F5 this page).

The US shows an even bigger gap between home and work use.

70
It reminds me something off-topic: 2009 Windows 7 Demonstration at Japan.  I don't know why(7!).

I remember that! ;D

MS really tried to market it properly over there and made a big deal of the touch features. They even had an official OS-tan (at least she was cute when she failed).

It didn't really work.

I even tried with Ackinator as the character... he got it straight away

You have to continue clicking too general. After 3 guesses he gives up, he still may know him yet!

And if not you get an option to add him I believe.

I wouldn't actually want him to know Hermoor; Hermie-kun is just a qhimm.com in-joke and isn't a meme anywhere else. If we add people like him, we might as well add people like "my mate Dave" or "my cat".

It's impossible.

He knows Kimmo Alm. He knows Chris Chan. He knows every single Touhou.

I'll try it with Hermoor.

NB. THERE'S NO "C" IN HIS NAME!

EDIT:

He doesn't know Hermoor! Unless this person is Hermie-kun's sock puppet. In any case, I lol'd hard IRL.

Or browsers which eat up valuable vertical screen estate!

For me, Chrome isn't the better choice because it's more stable, or less prone to memory leaks. It's better because the UI is clean, efficient, stays out of my way and keeps focus on the real reason I'm using it - the browser content.

I completely forgot about that!

I'm a vertical screen estate Nazi, so that was actually one of the things that drew me to Chromium. Firefox actually has an extension that gives you more screen estate, but it's still  pretty ugly.

I hate to think what IE10 will look like; Microsoft seems intent on using XBOX HUEG RIBBONS EVERYWHERE in Windows 8. There'll probably be about 30 vertical pixels left. In fact, I'm surprised that I haven't yet made a thread complaining about how retarded Win8 looks...

Someone should really tell MS that using the same UI for desktops and mobiles is not a good idea. And someone should remind them that whilst vertical screen estate isn't much of an issue for mobile devices, since they're usually used in portrait mode, it's a big issue for 1920x1080 desktop monitors.

Their tradition of following a good OS with a shitty one seems to be continuing.

We both know it's all about large icons and huge UI's.  ;-)

MS employee detected!

Yes, I have noticed a HUGE increase in chrome users.... Thing that astounds me is how fast google took over. @_@ And how fast FireFox became known as the buggy browser.

I'm not surprised by either. Chrome is actually quite good, which appeals to nerds, and is sufficiently well-advertised for normal people to download it. There are Chrome ads everywhere.

Firefox is now known as the buggy browser because it's so...buggy. Mozilla seem to be losing their touch.

74
Yet Another Market Share Thread!

According to statcounter (which, I'll grant, might be liable to over-representing recent browsing trends), unhackable Chrome has overtaken the cumbersome Firefox in the UK, with a whopping 0.04% lead. A great victory for people who don't like their browsers crashing every 5 minutes and using 12TB of RAM just to browse the qhimm forums! I'm using Chromium, so I'm not sure whether my internet use is counted towards Chrome. If it is, I'm probably single-handedly responsible for this.

Also interesting is the fact that Windows 7 is likely to overtake XP in Japan within the next month or so. Japan is famously fast in adopting certain kinds of technology, but famously slow when it comes to desktop PCs. Internet Explorer's market share might also drop below 50% over there quite soon. Seriously, what is it with Asian countries? Are they stuck in the early 2000s when it comes to computers? Do they hate installing anything? Do they think that the official Microsoft default software must be the best? Does IE's crappiness appeal to their sense of bad web design and hatred of people with epilepsy? At least Japan isn't as bad as Korea, where the government basically enforced IE until recently because of (wait for this; you'll laugh)
Spoiler: show
security
.

netmarketshare tells a much sadder story of IE and XP having over 50% global market share and IE6 still being used by 10% of the world.  I'll pretend that statcounter is more reliable, because I'd have to cry if nms was.

Anyone want to meet me half-way on this?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227515

I haven't worked out how to share it, but I'd get first dibs.....

Did you read the reviews?

And SATA SSDs are far slower than PCIe ones. You can get read/write times of 1GB/s with some of them.

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ocz-12tb-velodrive-pci-e-x8-h-w-or-s-w-raid-sandforce-1565-(x4)-3-year-warranty

Of course, they're a lot more expensive.

At the rate things are going, With AMD fusion and these new ssds, I predict in 10 years computers will have moved on from what we have always known them,

One of those phase change ssd's would make ram completely obsolete if they gave it direct highspeed access to the SB

These things always take longer than expected. We'll probably see RAM sticking around for a while yet. Hell, I remember HP saying a while ago that we'd soon have the processor and memory on a single chip. I doubt we'll see that before 2020.
