PTP Programs
« on: 2010-10-29 06:16:27 »
It seems that the music industry has had enough of their music being ripped by programs such as LimeWire.

Damn how could I have missed this?

Is this truly the end of PTP programs? I honestly think that someone will eventually create another and keep it on the down-low. At least that's what I think anyway.  ::)

From what I've heard about limewire, this will reduce the number of virus infections on PCs by 90%.

Damn how could I have missed this?

That's because PTP is something that you have no interest in, right doc-kun? ;D

I don't see PTP being killed off for a long time. I mean, what are they going to do? Send C&Ds to every person who makes a simple torrent program? Take down torrent hosting sites that are themselves hosted on servers in countries that haven't agreed on the Berne convention?

Limewire is the only one that is shut down for now. There is frostwire and many other p2p programs. Of course I only use these programs for music.

Isn't FrostWire associated with the same company as LimeWire?

Yeah, basically I use for music as well. Movies, programs and such; don't trust 'em.  ;)

Frostwire is associated but as of today my version of frostwire is still working perfectly fine, minus the obvious porn links -.-

Is FrostWire any good?

i find its better than limewire ever was, but sometimes there are songs it will not find for some reason, however that said, i personally think it works pretty well, has a look very similar to Limewires classic look but has multiple color skins and usually can get a very decent connection for good speed downloads, again, i'm only going on my experiences.

Frostwire is a decent program, but when I cant find a song or i want more then just a few songs by an artist, onto the torrents I go. I find it much easier, downloads are much faster.

Yes. Now here's a picture of my browser having embedded support for piracy:

Sir, why do not you use a private tracker? Are you looking to get a message from the MPAA/RIAA?

Thank god, I'm not the only one here who is somewhat of an elitist when it comes to piracy

Haha, I just find "private filesharing" to be a bit of an oxymoron, and that it doesn't help the battle to legalize filesharing...kind of like the notion of snorting zoloft to get high since pot is illegal (5 points for anyone who gets the reference). I've had a couple run-ins with the MPAA/RIAA, and they're a bunch of pussies, fighting an uphill battle against technological advancement in the interest of keeping profits high without having to change their business model. Organizations like that only have as much authority as you acknowledge them to have. Honestly, if you were to express the ratio of (successful) lawsuits to IPs on public trackers for music or movie torrents, it'd be around the order of 10^-8.

I'm actually of the belief that filesharing is helping the music industry in that it's limiting the monopolization of big record labels and making it easier for independent or underground artists to find a fanbase.

What.cd is such a great site, so much delicious FLAC.
I must say, everything can be found on share sites these days, so why even bother with P2P. Grab a Megaupload premium account and you're away!

Private trackers don't exist to be legal. They exist to reduce virus spread and otherwise dirty torrents.

Resorting to private trackers to avoid downloading a virus or a dirty torrent is like using a chainsaw to slice cheese. I doubt that's the only reason... those issues can be mainly avoided with simple features like uploader ratings or user feedback. I feel like most people use private trackers in an attempt to stay under the radar.

I use them EXCLUSIVELY, for both (although the virus thing isn't too big a threat to me right now)
