Releases / Re: [REL/FF7] gjoerulv's "Hardcore" mod. v1.0.4
« on: 2011-08-17 08:19:39 »
Just thought I'd post this here for fun. Here's a Level 14/13/13 quick kill of Locke, Venus & Theo that I did as a bonus video for a LP thread:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFpwJrZG72c

There's also another video in the account with items being stolen from all three soldiers.

comical.mid is not used in the game at all, which might explain it.

Wow, it's been a long way since I started the first hard-mode. Nice to see regardless of all bugs that arise in a mod-creation around people completed their own patches. Nice job.

Cloud_rulz: Don't double post, it's against the forum rules.

And how did you manage to just install FF7, yet do not have your Installation CD?

That is very strange, scene.bin doesn't alter the equipment,  much less the characters, and much less Sephiroth...
Again, very weird.

The Skillster: I made a big text about the EXP in my mod... it is in the "Scene.bin editing" thread.
To make it short: I'm rising the exp in a few areas and reducing in others, but not enough to make the bosses easier.

Quote
Increased 25% of experience will not make the game cheaper. Supposing this 25% applied to the whole game, AND it meant y ou was supposed to get 1/4 more levels than you should (which we know the two affirmations are wrong), and supposing Cloud is in an area where his average level is 11 (and I will suppose that you will fight Guard Scorpion by level 11, which we all know it's possible, with patience, but I doubt anyone other than me keeps leveling up), that means his level will now be (rounding up) 14 (which would never be).
If by some ungodly reason you manage to get the maximum bonuses per level, and supposing your original Strength was 26, this means you will have a damage enhancement of (not counting weapons).
Original: 26 + 11+26/32 * 11*26/32 = 26 + 1,15*8,9 = 26+10 = 36
"Added" Experience: 35 + 14+35/32 * 14*35/32 = 35 + 1,5*15 = 57

Difference: 1,6x or an additional 60% damage.
Now compare his HP, which changed from 800 to 2000, an additional 150% value. The difference between this and the damage is of 120%, or more than the double. The "statistical" difference still overweights the "extra bonus", even if he, somehow, managed to give you a full effect through the whole. But this is all theorical. In the game, it won't even make that 60% different, or any at all.

Heh, I liked the firework sounds. My FF7 doesn'tplay the FMV sounds, anyway, don't ask me why. So I never knew there were actual fireworks sounds on the fmvs (last time I played the PSX version was some years ago).

The horns sounds good here, but it might be my own sound equipment. I don't know what kind of equipment you use, but if more than one people think it is low, then it probably is low.

By the way, Jenova is my personal favorite until now, because I really wanted it to sound alien, and because I finally managed to record in layers in Sonar 3, which gave me more control.
There are still not as many flangers and chorus effects as I have planned initially, but I think it sounds nice the way it is. Specially the bass (long live the subwoofer)

Think about "Mulholland Drive".
Now think that the whole movie is Square-Enix.
Now, think about the part that they say NO HAY BANDA!! NO HAY BANDA!! (There is NO band), even though they may seem to be playing it sometime. It's all a teaser.

Now, think that the band is Final Fantasy 7.

I hope it was graphic enough to you.

A bit too sharp, imo, otherwise good.
What samples are you using? And which program?

Anyway, I did another two musics, like I said.

Interrupted by Fireworks

Jenova

Enjoy (or not).

Oh really?
Here a pack of 100 cds costs about 50 dollars... yea, evil world.

Hey Soldier, it's not that easy...
I have over 40 different project folders, ebooks, tutorials, musics, soundfonts, textures, work with about 30 different programs and have to keep their own file types organized, besides the personal files like photos, chat logs, etc.
All between 3 different HDs, plus a partition with SuSe and another partition with Mandrake.

If I had to make a backup for every single thing I did, everyday, I would not only spend riches with cds and dvds, plus it would take an unholy ammount of my time. Even then, I still try to make the most ammount of backups humanly possible, and to be the most organizated possible too (because of this I made the Compilation of Programs topic), but it's not like everyone has the obligation to not lose anything when your HDD mess up, you know?

I've once lost all my files because my HDD messed up. The Backup cd was scratched (yea) and on top of this, my ISP had on the same day a crash on the server that made me lost all the backup I had. I won a suit against them, but I never got my files back... :( I've already lost many projects days before my backup routine too...

I'm just trying to show you that it's not just because discs exists that we have the obligation to never lose anything. I, myself, doubt you keep cd backups of *everything* you do.
If you do, please tell me from where you buy cds/dvds ;)

Cheers

Yazoo:
I was rendering my 3D file.
You can check it here:
http://elentor.com/Render_Final1600Low.jpg

Lots of things I wanna fix on Photoshop post-working, but it's about the way I wanted.
So, I'm gonna update as soon as I have free non-3D time.

About your Report.
I didn't edit either Sephiroth, the Dragon or Cloud.
That's very weird. I'll check it later, but like you said, might not be my patch's problem.

EmperorSteele: At that point you have to level up like mad on the Mythril Cave.
The first time I played, I wanted to get beta so bad, but I was very young (about 10 years old) and very unexperienced, I leveled up Elemental to level 3. Yea, I'm mad.

the elemental defense is always relative
Elemental level 1 = Halves
Elemental level 2 = Nulls
Elemental level 3 = Absorbs

Most people usually have elemental level 2 by the time they try to take Beta, which means Beta's power does not make the battle harder or easier.

Seems the curse of "losing the game after Jenova on the Boat" is affecting everyone. Happened with me, my fault too.
If you want I can send you a non-cheated, level 17 save on Costa Del Sol, cortesy of Alhexx.

Is Jenova too hard? I found her quite easy.

Emperor: The problem on Beta is that it's an elemental magic.
Elemental + Fire owns it big time. Yea, sucks.

Mime is too overpowered. I will probably take it off, because I believe that changing these things are gonna to be *very* hard...

Marik: Same thing, I don't know if these things are possible. But then, I would only make it if it served the purpose of the patch being *harder*, if you can understand what I mean... but anyway, I didn't start messing with these files... *yet* :D

I suspect your file names are switched.

Did you use any other tool to edit the files besides M4V3R's, or any hex editor?
Did you check if in the folder there are exactly 256 files?
Did you check if these 256 files are ranging from 0 to 255 or from 1 to 256, or from 0 to 256 or from 1 to 255?

NeoS: Uh, did you read the first post? Kojiro said about everything, but let me give a more complete answer...

Well, since the author is me, by "guys" I picture out everybody in this forum. I hope nobody ever decides to post this on OCremix, or they would laugh at me very bad. This definitely is not on the standard OCremix quality. Even if it were, like Kojiro stated, this is not an arrangement, and OCremix would give to any music here a NO OVERRIDE.

There are three reasons why I am not going to bother any of the artists at OCremix, which are:
1) This is not an arrangement, they have no reason to waste their time with it.
2) Like I stated, this is a personal project. I don't need any help for what would be doing exactly what I'm willing to do.... nor would KojiroTakenashi, for that matter.
3) I'm not a professional musician, and this is just a hobbie, so I don't really care about producing something "big", if you know what I mean.

About your musics... I think I've heard this drum before. KeyArdency? Well, anyway.
I didn't like the Bombing Mission either. Cid is nice, so is the Fighting theme, but the string fails sometimes, almost like the tones are out of range.
Also, I would like to know: Why the musics have big empty spaces when they finish? I just got curious.

About my remixes: I just finished Interrupted and Jenova Battles. Interrupted is already recorded, but Jenova not, and I won't be able to record it so soon because I'm currently rendering a *big* 3D image (1600*1280, 1.700.000 polygons, HDRI + 30 lights, over 40 textures of about 1600*1200 resolutions, you picture out) on my crappy Athlon XP 2100+ @1700, which means my computer cannot afford any other process than the render, which might take about three days.

If someone wants to donate a better CPU (who knows, perhaps there are rich people here) to me, thanks (I hope someone take it seriously..)

Cheers

I didn't think it was possible to beat the Midgar Zolom (18k HP, 125 STR) by this level.
I'm gonna rise up her challenge. Beta is a way too cheap spell to have for the whole first cd, even for a hard mode.
Thanks for your report.

No doubt... but I would have to change somethings. Ok, I will be sincere:

I was intending, from the beginning, change the whole "steal" thing. The one reason why I am actually not very angry because of the M4V3R's editor's bug is because I really enjoyed taking some steals out of place.
I like how stealing works on FF9 (up to some point), because on FF9 stealing is a natural part of the gameplay. On FF7, stealing is almost worthless, because it is hard, like you say, and few enemies drop good things.
Stealing is not something "flowing"... I agree with you on this point.

The thing is that it will need much more preparation and I'm not quite ready at this point, since I have muuuch more to beta test... and keep in mind I'm gonna rewrite the weapons and bracelets attributes.

As you see, I intend on working on the whole steal/morph section.. but for now, I want first to finish the enemies attributes.

PERHAPS, with the new editor version released, I start tweaking from where I stopped (which is Costa Del Sol). Cross your fingers, it will all depends on how kind my girlfriend is gonna be to me today :} haha just joking.

Not really.

Cheers

KojiroTakenashi: And that gets even more ridiculous once you get Slash-All. Just attack yourself and it's like having an Aeris limit. For free.

smithie: You mean, you managed to defeat *my* Midgar Zoloom at level 20? Try downloading the updated patch and doing it again... this kinda scared me. I have some experience with OpenGL, but keep in mind I'm not a programmer.

Marcis: Try downloading it again... I have no idea why it didn't uploaded properly.

The problem with Sewer Tsunami is that it is a Physical Attack, and I do not have the means to change it for now. Of course, if I knew how, I would make it a water attack and give him water immunity.

Again.. just check the bosses...  the first attacks once per 4 turns and give you 3 turns to heal yourself... the second takes 5 times damage from behind, is slow as hell and is always with it's back turned to someone... a boss that damages himself more than you is not something very scary, right? :D

The "absorbing damage" would be an extra-cool idea to make him really challenging. If I ever manage to change the attributes of the attacks, I will be sure to do that.

Cheers

EDIT: Please ignore my stupidity. I just noticed that, even while the attack is physical, it possess the Water Element.
In other words, I'm gonna do it as I said on the next patch

Perhaps I will, if it won't affect greatly the overall challenge.

But keep in mind I passed through all the patch until Costa Del Sol without stealing anything (since the steal was bugged), so it won't affect much the outcome... it can be played without the use of steal until now.

Cheers
