Okay, may be a dumb question but anyways....

I can't seem to be able to recompile the char.lgp file with lgptools. I've extracted the files to the char folder and successfully patched it with the reunion patcher. Now I can't seem to be able to recompile them.

I may be doing something wrong here, so I'll give you the steps I've done.

In lgptools:
1)Press create, then okay to the warning.
2)Under browse folder, I locate and highlight the char folder, press okay
3)under save as, I type char.lgp, hit save

Then is just goes back to the blank lgptools program with nothing there.

Also when I relocate the original char.lgp and use lgptools to create a new one to replace it, it doesn't do anything.....

Does anyone know the fix for this problem? I let it LGPTools sit there for a long time, but my CPU usage is 0% and nothing has happened.

Someone said use LGPTools 1.6...? Now where would I get that? This site only goes to 1.55:
http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ficedula/

Also, is that Ficedula site no longer available or what?

The server hosting my site is offline due to a hard disk failure - somebody should sort it out on Monday, assuming they have a spare hard disk handy...

I'm sure Aaron will post 1.6 on his mirror if someone emails it to him, though.

Could you e-mail 1.6 to me? Or get it to Aaron somehow?

Actually, in case anybody else needs it:

Temporary mirror

That page is running off my router so it'll only be up until the server hosting my site gets repaired, but you can grab v1.6 off there for now. Although it won't be fast - I don't have that much upload.

Brilliant!

However, two nits: In the Aeris Death scene, Seph's hands should be raised up, not flopping like he's pretending to be a beautiful seagull or something. Also, Hojo's hands should be clasped, not...so awkward. Anyway.

Hmm, this patch doesn't work for me (and the original cloud patch neither)...

When I try to start a new game, or load a saved game, FF7 just crashes with a error message "Can't load model (model name.ext)". Model name.ext is of course the model, can't remember the name but I really don't feel like trying that again to get the need to reboot :D

The game worked just fine with the original Char.LGP. I'm using the High-Resolution patch (nice work saint ;)), but that shouldn't affect that way, shouldn't it?

will all the models be done and are people still making them? i.e. townspeople, or will it just be npc's and playable characters

Im having a problem applying your patch also, i do everything your readme says to do. Using the lgp tools to extract the files to char folder but after i run your patch the total number of objects exceeds what your readme in the patch file says.
-----------------------------------
Original char.lgp: 12,649 files
With patch: 12,709 files
-----------------------------------
Before i use patch
Original char.lgp: 12,649 files //so far so good

After using patch
12,806 files //its nearly a 100 files bigger then what your readme says it should be.

Does anyone know what im doing wrong or know what could be causing this?

Right, I just registered, just for this patch.
I can't get it to work properly. The battle-characters show only in the world map, but not in towns and suchs. I'm having problems with the char.lpg file.

I'm not a computer genious, so maybe a detailed step-by-step instructions would be helpful, like someone mentioned earlier. The one that came with that patch wasn't detailed enough.

How about it? I really want this to work.

I think i have the same problem as the above people too.
I haven't tried it on the world map.
Anyways people post your char.lgp size. I'm curious to know if we all have the same problem.

My char.lgp size is 49.8MB.

I just wanted to say what excellent work you've done. Particularly on Diamond Weapon. ive just got to that part again and it looks incredible, much more menacing than the original walking across the map.

For the people having problems, remember to extract your old char.lgp to a new folder labelled char in the field folder, then run the setup.

No, the original char lgp is 46.7MB before i had done the patch thing.
I have followed everything, just like the instructions told me. Still no go.

The title screen actually does work properly with the patch but the game still doesnt use the new models for town nor world map.

I dont know, it could be my computer but could the reunion patch program possibly be at fault?

Now it works, thanks to rmco2003's tip.

But...

...When I try to enter a town, the game crashes and error occurs: 'Fail to load AVBF.chi'. Now what is that all about?
Damn, I knew it couldn't work that easily...

Can someone post an exact guide of how your supposed to install this patch.

I'll post the steps i did and someone hopefully will be able to tell me where i went wrong.

1.Use the lgp tools to extract all the files from the char.lgp to the char folder in the field folder.
2.Run the reunion patch.
3.Use the lgp tools to recreate a new lgp file from the files in the char folder.
4.rename the newly created lgp file to char and store it in field.

Using these steps i got a 49.8MB char.lgp that dosen't work properly.
(granted it still runs but without the special models).

omega, there is something odd here because the steps you are following seem correct to me.
Could you post a file with the log created by the installation? You know, the thing things it writes while it is installing such as "file x replaced succesfully" and so.
I supose you are already doing it, but just in case, did you extracted the original char.lgp?
By the way, crimsondante my idea is to redo all the field models left. But let's be serious: only one person cannot finish redoing every single character contained in char.lgp. Well, maybe one can but, for sure, not me. I know that sooner or latter I'll get bored. But that's not bad. I'm not a especially brilliant modder. I'm completly sure that there's a lot of people out there who can do a better job (Reunion, for example). They just need to try it. Rebuilding a field model is not very different from playing Lego. But you know, Lego isn't allways that simple...
