Releases / Re: [REL/FF8] Project SeeD (FF8 GUI overhaul)
« on: 2014-01-27 04:46:42 »
I'm using the 2013 PC version; inside the main .exe there's a path to the default low res icon.tex (...\data\fre\menu\) but nothing about the 4 hi res files for french, german, italian and spanish versions. After importing these files in the menu.fs is it possible to edit the ff8.exe to make the game read them?
Unfortunately I have no idea whether the 2013 version works with Aalis driver.
Unfortunately I have also no idea with what tool you can integrate graphics directly into the .fs files.

Aalis driver with the 2000 version is able to integrate png images in the game.
In the ff8_opengl.cfg you specifies the path where the images are (eg "mod_path = SeeD-eng").
In the directory [gamedir]\mods a corresponding subfolder (eg "SeeD-eng") is created, which then contains the images or other subfolders with images (eg "[gamedir]\mods\SeeD-eng\data\eng\menu\hires")
For the hi-res graphics, there is a subfolder "hires".

However, I fear that the tools are not in a position, subfolders to integrate into the menu.fs, but I do not know.
If it is possible, I would hope that you are doing one menu.fs for each of the four languages.

If you unzip the file "Project SeeD v1.0c.7z" with WinRar, you get the name out everything of the pictures.
The images for Triple Triad have names of "mc00_00" to "mc09_00".

I was thinking about redrawing those textures manually pixel perfect using the low res icon.tex as a basis, sadly I've changed my mind since I realized that the english version is the only one that use these upscaled icon textures. If someone can figure it out how to edit the french ff8.exe to make the game read them I will gladly contribute on that project for both english and french version.
I suspect you just need to change the path in the mods folder from
...\data\eng\menu
to
...\data\fra\menu

There is also a German version, but I can not find the post atm...

... I had high-res fonts checked, tried everything else before using this method. Something must be wrong between changing the registry and the graphic driver.
The problem with the registry is that the OS (Win7 / 8 ) under different circumstances some keys redirects to various locations.
A role is played by using a 32bit OS or 64bit OS, UAC turned on or off, start the Program with admin rights or not, set a compatibility mode or not ...

In general, all programs involved should have the same settings.
When you start "FF7Config.exe" with admin rights should also get "FF7.exe" Admin rights.
When you start FF8.exe in compatibility mode for XP, you should have started earlier also FF8Config.exe in same way.

On my PC, no such adjustments are necessary, the OS directs all relevant key automatically in the same fashion for all participating programs around.
Win7 x64Bit, UAC on (default), no admin rights and no compatibility mode.

129
Not only with the SeeD mod, with some other mods (for FF7) occurs, this message also.
The chance to find there is something bigger.

130
With the "GLITCH" (also sometimes happens with FF7) I have not yet employed.
If you are searching for on the forums here, you should be able to find a lot of information.

131
So then I should have left that line removed and never have it on, right?
YES, this is correct.

Sorry for asking you to elaborate, but by popups, you mean this kind?

Or this kind?

The last one.

132
Step 2 applies only to FF7, you can ignore it for FF8.

After that, what exactly do I do in "ff8_opengl.cfg"? I got lucky on finding out notepad could open it, I just don't know what exact settings to change.
You may can change the resolution...
eg
Code: [Select]
window_size_x = 1920
window_size_y = 1080
for full HD

Code: [Select]
preserve_aspect = noexpands the picture to fill the screen.

It is not a good idea in the registry to change values if you do not know what you do.
Instead, you can use FF8Config.exe.
The value that was modified above, is the same as "Use High Res Fonts" in the graphics tab.

134
For FF8 the driver is used automatically when you've unziped it and copied to the game folder.

Dear Aali

My game controller (Saitek P2600 Rumble Force Pad) is no longer involved with your driver 0.8.1b inside FF8 (with ff7 it works).
With the driver 0.7.11b it worked flawlessly.
I'm guessing you removed the support for DirectX input devices.
Can I hope that you integrate the support again or have I to work with keyboard mapper? (You've not yet indicated)

Side note, in the first line of ff8_opengl.cfg is "ff7_opengl-0.8b config file" written.
I think "ff8_opengl-0.8.1.b config file" would be better. (I know I'm a pedant... :D)

Bootleg Questions / Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg

Also, could you elaborate a little bit more on this: "At one point, the converter outputs the found path and asks if he's right.
At this point you can enter the path manually.
Easy does it, if you copy the new path from the Windows Explorer as text and adding back in the converter window."
What are you saying I need to do here?
The converter uses the folder where the Steam version of FF7 was installed.
If you copy this folder to an other location and wishes to there will be manipulated, you have to specify the path to the copied folder.

I assure you my "B" drive has the space...it's an internal 2TB Hard Drive.
That reassures me a little :-D

And, I think what I'll do is just go through and delete EVERYTHING and start a new, for the fourth time  :-\ haha. But first, I'll run the registry tool and make sure I delete everything that's old of FF7...or should I run the registry AFTER I go through and redelete everything? Including uninstalling FF7 from Steam?
I recommend the latter variant, first uninstall everything and finally clean up the registry.
But you should know that "FF7 REMOVE registry keys" only remove the keys from the converted (old) game.
The Keys of the Steam release remain unaffected.

At one point, the converter outputs the found path and asks if he's right.
At this point you can enter the path manually.
Easy does it, if you copy the new path from the Windows Explorer as text and adding back in the converter window.

The game sometimes hangs at this point at a certain Yuffi model.
But with me it goes on after about 5 min.

Hi subie_king,

Heavy Heavy Heavy...

I have problems to realize what you've done.
First explain me what is Drive B for a device??????? ? ?
And how much space is there?
Normally, A and B are reserved for floppy drives, I assure you FF7 does not fit on a floppy disk ;D

My Converter searches in the registry for the path to FF7.
If you have copied FF7 somewhere else, he will still find the original installation and manipulate, as long as you do not manually typing the new path.
If you have moved FF7 somewhere else, he will still abort any installation because he could not find any files.
I suspect that you have copied FF7, but not typing the new path into the Converter.

Please search on your drives for a file "FF7_GC.log", open it with Notepad and write the content here in the forum.
Maybe I am able to help you.

Hi mugenginga

I'm not sure whether Aalis driver with you is really running.
That's why I changed the reg file from Aali something.
Just try it and tell if it works.

ff7_opengl_corrected.reg

140
Again to Aali:

I just noticed that your last two registry keys may be wrong.
There is for me no key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\VirtualStore\...]
With me                       [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\VirtualStore\...] is correct.

Windowed Mode doesn't seem to be working for some reason.  These are the only variables I've changed, and I've run the registry files:

window_size_x = 960
window_size_y = 720
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = no

EDIT: I'm not getting Custom Driver as an option in the config upon a second look, so that's probably why but I'm not sure WHY I'm not getting it.
Windowed Mode works correctly for me, but I have also inserted the correct registry keys (see above)

141
To be fair, it is not included in the Steam version.
This is exactly my problem.
With the original FF7Config 1998 you can not set Aalis driver. With the FF7Config of Aali I get this message (paraphrased): The specified procedure could not be found

Kompass63, does your converter include ff7config.exe? If not, maybe it should be added.
Yes, even the complete OpenGL Driver 0.7.11 of Aali is already included inside my converter.
I have found no other way to play the new movies (VP80) with the old FF7.exe.
All codecs that I've tried, though worked with the Media Player, but not in the game. (?)
Only with the ffmpeg_movies plugin it works.

142
Dear Aali,

You have the file "FF7Config.exe" omitted from your driver 0.8 and instead inserted a .reg file.
Unfortunately, I do not know any other way to determine the value for the registrykeys "DD_GUID" (seems to be 00...) and "Sound_GUID".
With your old (0.7.11) "FF7Config.exe" the self-test does not work anymore.
Do you know a way to determine the values without "FF7Config.exe" or can you create a new "FF7Config.exe"?

I have a HD 6870 with 1GB RAM.
I have also installed FeliX Leonhart's World-map Enhancement (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11542.msg159568#msg159568)
With the "use_pbo = off" and "compress_textures = on", the game requires at first start about 27 seconds before a picture appears.
On the second start, it is about 15 seconds.
With "compress_textures = off" are required only 5 seconds.
Under what circumstances it makes sense to use the option "compress_textures = on"?

143
Is the issue trying to play the original 2012's in a converted game maybe? It seems they may have a different codec that doesn't work properly with the original/converted games.

No, the movie from 2012 will play correctly.
Also all the other movies that I've checked are played correctly.
Only the 1998 is incorrectly played, even with the media player.
After about 4 seconds, the view is about 12 frames long displayed down into the gorge, which does not belong there.
It looks in the game like this, as recorded by Isuldor (look right).

144
The fmv that plays when Dyne falls seems to be out of sync. Here is some video capture:
https://drive.google.com/a/baligad.name/file/d/0B3Q-ezrhZam7cjhSMzJCb1VUWVU/edit?usp=sharing

The Movies "biskdead.avi" of the old (1998) and the new (2012) version are slightly different in the cut.
I suspect that you have a new (Rerelease or Steam) version of FF7 but the ancient game relevant video.
Just try to copy the "biskdead.avi" from the folder "[gamedir] \ data \ movies" in the folder where the game searches the movies, eg "[Gamedir] \ movies"

the multi.dll is in the multi.dll folder
The FILE "Multi.dll" should be in Gamefolder (not in a subfolder), all other dll's should be in a sub-folder DLL_in

Also you have set your resolution to 0x0.
Quote
window_size_x = 0
window_size_y = 0

...
Add the line  load_library = Multi.dll  to ff7_opengl.cfg.

but I don't understand how to complete the last step... How do I add the line to the opengl.cfg?

Since Vista you can not so easily edit files within a system folder like C:\Programs (x86).
Copy the "opengl.cfg" in a non-system folder, edit the copy, and then copy back the file.

Hi TheOmegaFactor,

Have you already tried my FF7 Music Patch?
It next to another version of the out_wave.dll is also a out_vlsound51.dll containing (5.1 sound), which could be interesting for you.

Please report if this helps you, thanks.

148
May be necessary to let ff7.exe run in compatibility mode.

Went to go play today and my aspect ratio is all screwed in game. What I mean is a large portion of the game is off the screen.

Perhaps the following can help:

1) Run "[Gamedir]\FF7Config.exe"
2) Goto Tab "Graphics"
3) Select "Direct3D Hardware Acceleration", "640 x 480 16bpp (Full Screen)", "NVIDIA", "TNT"

4) Press "OK"

5) Run "[Gamedir]\FF7Config.exe" again
6) Goto Tab "Graphics" and Select "Custom driver"

7) Press "OK"

The installation with bootleg installed significantly more than the FF7Music installer.
It will be created, including related music files, 10-11 different profiles.
If the FF7Music-installer is used, my patch has no effect at all. (only "PSF" and "OSTRe")

If then "Anxious Heart" (AH.exe) is used, presumably nothing works properly.
Please save the folder "Ficedula" before attempting another installations.

My FF7 Music Patch contains the 11 profiles and renames some music files (corresponding to profiles).
Also, some profiles are revised.
This is all lost if you using FF7Music-installer or AH.
