Need Help With Vids In XP :(
« on: 2002-11-25 10:12:24 »
Ok so I thought i had it made... I have XP and all is well or so I thought. I get the the public execution part of the game, get Tifa to the end of the cannon where her and Scarlet get into a slapping match, everything runs smooth up to this point. Now after the slapping etc. your supposed to run to the end of the cannon, at that time a little vid starts as you start running, well my screen goes black and never recovers. Any ideas on how to fix this? Maybe getting the vids to run off the hard drive and not the cd? If someone could tell me how to do that id be very grateful  :D

Make sure the vid is good on your CD -> go to My Computer and open it up, and try to find the video and play it.

I don't have the link...and currently don't want to search for it. But eidos' site has instruction on how to copy movies to harddrive for FF7, in support.

Basicly you put the movies in a directory, go to winreg (window's registory) Search for FF7 and set the movie path.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESquare Soft, Inc.Final Fantasy VII

You will find the line that says:

"MoviePath"="d:FF7Movies"

Click on the key "MoviePath" and click on Edit on the Menu bar at the top of the Window. Click on Modify. Enter the new path:

"MoviePath"="c:windowsdesktopMovies"(or which ever path to which you saved the movies.)

When you change disks, will will need to copy the movies on the new disk to the hard drive in the same directory. It is safe to delete the movies as you will not return to the previous disk

Eeetttooo after that please defrag you hard-drive for better performance!!!

I think you have to change the label on your hard drive to the label of the CD ("FF7_Disc1" or something)?  Unless you use a crack of some kind.

Maybe not.  Just thought I remember reading that somewhere.

MY bad, I meant regedit....

I had winfile on the brain, I guess. Which for NT and Win9x causes the old program manger to come up....

Yeah winfile on the brain....see I made that post from my work. That's why i didn't want to look for the link. We are not supposed to surf the web for non work related stuff. I didn't want to get caught. My cubical is kinda open. The boss' office is kinda behind me. Anyway we use WinNT and when we make a new directory on the server we have to use Winfile to do it. The reason? because the access to erase directories is not there. At least for non Administration users. And if you use Explorer to make directories, you can't rename them. You have to go to the Administrator to get them renamed or erased. And I think we all know what Explorer does when you make directories....It names them NEW Folder. So we use Winfile to make directories.

Now.....MvMcool. Why do you want to play the movies off the harddrive? Because that doesn't really solve movie problems. If your getting a black screen try installing the upsidedown patch. And there is no winedit...it's regedit. I made a mistake.

Regedit.....

yeah it's possible.

Just type regedit in the run box of windows
Hit Ctrl F
have the "keys" checked and the "Match whole string only" checked

do a search for: Square Soft Inc.

It should find the Final Fantasy 7 registery, if it doesn't, hit F3 until it does.

Click/Highlight the "Final Fantasy VII" text
Look for the string that says MoviePath (it should be the last one)
That's where you tell FF7 where the movies are at. Just double click on MoviePath to change the value.

Now, you probably already know about that, being it the same as mentioned earlier by "nayoung". You probably miss-typed the path.
