The links for both the full patch and the upgrade work fine for me as of 13:51pm (GMT), could be temporary downtime on the file hosts part.

Hey Dolphin, I'm not sure why the server isn't letting you access the file, but I've sent you a PM regarding the issue.

turn on the "fancy_transparency" setting in the config file. I accidentally left it off by default.

How come the mirror for the wallmarket (kernel) patch is linking to windows media player setup..not the wm patch file?  The prc patch link is working correctly however.

It would be really cool that the final version of the patch was something like 7.777

Hey there,
So, I originally had FFVII installed at C:/Program Files/Final Fantasy VII, and after a little bit of tweaking with the shortcuts and stuff, I was able to get it working - I just had a bad framerate. So, I quit, and went to go access the FF7_OpenGLcfg file (or whatever that file was exactly), and all it had in it were 1440x900... nothing else. The previous file I had seen had I guess just mysteriously dissappeared. So, I decided to reinstall. I uninstalled FF7, deleted everything in that folder, then reinstalled in the reccommended program path: C:/Program Files/Square Soft, Inc/Final Fantasy VII. Now, it won't work at all. There were no errors or anything - it just doesn't want to work. I'm using Windows 7, I've tried it with & without the UAC (It's off by default). The FF7Music.log file has this in it:

DataPath is C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\ficedula\

jiggawha? Lol for some reason your windows media player is set to try to stream the .wm extension...wait...."wm"...that makes sense... just right click and save target as or whatever and it'll work.

It would be really cool that the final version of the patch was something like 7.777
LOL that's awesome...I think I just got an excellent idea...[mumble] [mumble]...find the promised land...[mumble] [mumble]...slip her roofies...

What's not working? Is the game crashing on startup? I'm assuming you've installed the remix patcher. Seeing your APP.log or copy and pasting from FF7Music's console would help. Check to make sure your registry entries are fine (run FF7OpenGL.reg), make sure your sound driver is properly selected in FF7Config.exe. You say there's no errors, but it's not working, and that doesn't make sense...

But all of the error information is included, such as the FF7Music log and stuff. There are errors - stating that the FF7 application has crashed, as soon as I open it.

lol. the ff7music log file doesn't save the data you need to look at to investigate the error. Try this:

1) run FF7 Configuration (the chocobo head) through your start menu shortcut
2) goto Sound, and make sure a device is selected under "sound driver"
3) click OK
4) a prompt should appear asking you to install a registry entry, say yes
5) If step 4 didn't happen, goto your ff7 folder and run "FF7OpenGL.reg"
6) Open the OpenGL Config File through your start menu shortcut
7) modify it so that it looks like this:
Code: [Select]
# ff7_opengl config file

# use shaders, if available and supported
# turn shaders off to use the OpenGL 1.1 backend
use_shaders = no

# plugins
# a movie plugin is required, the music plugin is optional, but required to make FF7Music work
movie_plugin = plugins/ffmpeg_movies.fgp
music_plugin = plugins/ff7music.fgp

# vertex and fragment shaders
vert_source = shaders/main.vert
frag_source = shaders/main.frag

# post-processing shader, used to apply fullscreen effects
# options are smartbloom.post and bloom2.post
# note that shaders/smartbloom.post must be configured to proper resolution, open with notepad
post_source = shaders/smartbloom.post
enable_postprocessing = no

# display frames per second counter in upper right corner
show_fps = no

# display some real-time debug information
show_stats = no

# set the window size (and fullscreen resolution) of FF7
# 0 means use original resolution (whatever ff7.exe provides)
# preserve_aspect adds black borders as needed to preserve a 4:3 aspect ratio
window_size_x = 640
window_size_y = 480
preserve_aspect = no
fullscreen = no

# prevent glitches due to rounding errors by rendering in the nearest (larger, if supported)
# multiple of the original resolution and up/down-scaling
prevent_rounding_errors = no

# check your driver settings if this option doesn't seem to work
enable_vsync = no

# limit snowboard, coaster and highway minigames to refresh rate / 2, i.e. 30fps for a 60hz display mode
# vsync must be enabled and working for this to have any effect
minigame_framelimiter = on

# same thing, but for the battle swirl
battleswirl_framelimiter = on

# replace FF7's default framelimiter timer source
use_new_timer = yes

# use a more stable (but less accurate) timer to control FF7's framelimiter
# this option has no effect unless the use_new_timer option is on
use_stable_timer = yes

# allow FF7 to use linear filtering for its textures
# some things look slightly better with this option on, but alot of textures just lose their detail
linear_filter = off

# enable alpha blending for textures without an existing blending effect
fancy_transparency = on

# read files directly instead of using LGP archives
# this option requires you to have all your LGP archives unpacked in direct/, with one folder for each archive
# for example; if FF7 is looking for aaab.rsd in char.lgp, this option will make it open direct/char/aaab.rsd instead
# this option should be used for testing only, performance will take a hit
direct_mode = off
These are the minimal settings.
8 ) Run Final Fantasy VII via your start menu shortcut
9) if it still doesn't work, run FF7Music Configuration through your start menu shortcut, then run FF7.exe
10) if it *still* doesn't work, blame it on windows 7.

Ok - thank you! That got me somewhere - it now starts. However - the opening video is in a higher resolution (I'm only seeing the top-left quarter of the video), and when I select new game and press Enter, it crashes. :\
Here is the correct ff7music log file. xD Sorry.

Okay, good. Some more steps:

1) Now that it works you can set your resolution higher and turn shaders on in the FF7 OpenGL Config File. That might help your Opening movie problem.
2) If the game still crashes at the start of a new game, download and install the CCCP (it's a codec pack)
3) If you *still* can't start a new game and the Intro FMV sequence that starts after you click "new game" won't play at all, then copy the file Opening.avi from your Disc 1 CD into the "Final Fantasy VII\movies\" folder and try again, if the video plays on the other hand, then I'm not sure what your problem is...

Okay, there MUST be something seriously wrong with my computer. I restarted it 'cause it's network adapter wasn't working, and now it isn't working anymore. :\ I tried the shaders and the res changes, and that just ended up in more crashes. I also tried running it from the FF7 Music thing.

I'm going to try and download another copy of FFVII. I have no idea whether my current version is the Ultima edition, but I'm downloading another copy just to be sure. The normal torrents should have 4 CDs, right?

Oh - I'm terribly sorry - I didn't see that. >.<
I was talking to my friend, and it turns out that he has an actual copy of it - so I'll install it from there. Eeks, sorry. I feel like an idiot now. -_-

whenever i play theres either no music or just normal music, also the top 2inches of the window is messed up, it lookes normal untill a battle menu or game model passes over it were it get swrewed up and the picture stays untill the battle is over or the game does a compleat screen change. it also blockes the first 3 options of the sart menu.

Use the start menu shortcuts. What version of ff7 do you have?

Ok so I have had good experiences with this package....I used it with Windows XP with absolutely no problems.  I recently had to reformat and I upgraded to Vista;  I installed FF7 as before and then downloaded the 2.5 version.  When I installed it, everything worked except Aali's driver.  I am really at a loss as of what I should do...I am fully aware of how the driver works and haven't had any problems until now.

My specs are

Vista HP SP1 64 bit
Pentium D 3.2 Ghz
Radeon 1650 series video card

Thanks in advance for any help :D

whenever i play theres either no music or just normal music, also the top 2inches of the window is messed up, it lookes normal untill a battle menu or game model passes over it were it get swrewed up and the picture stays untill the battle is over or the game does a compleat screen change. it also blockes the first 3 options of the sart menu.

Use the start menu shortcuts. What version of ff7 do you have?

what do you mean by the start menu? the main game directory folder were ff7 is installed or the menu in the bottom left of my computer screen? because i was lanching it from the remix launcher in the main directory folder. C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII

I'm not shure what version i have I'm borrowing the disks from a Friend.

Go to your install directory and try running the .reg file with Vista64 in the name and see if it works, I forgot to do it on my laptop where I have 64bit Vista.

User account control. That's your problem. UAC isn't letting the registry changes go through. Turn it off via the "Users" option in the control panel, then re-apply the registry keys like DragonNinja said, and it should work beautifully (although you might want to remember to turn on "fancy_transparency" as it's off by default).

If the fronts of discs are black, then they should be fine. I mean the start menu. the thing in the bottom left corner of your screen that opens if you press the windows logo key on your keyboard. You should go to start...programs...Final Fantasy VII and run the game with the shortcut that was made there. Copy that shortcut to your desktop if you want to.

That was it!  Its weird though because Vista made it seem like I was still applying the registry entries even though they were not going through.  Thanks again :)
