Title: the rules of ff
Post by: sfx1999 on 2002-10-26 23:14:35
Have you ever noticed one of the main rules that you MUST follow when creating a FF game. Here it goes:

In almost every FF game, you need to have some named Cid, Biggs (sometimes called Vicks), Wedge, and I think there was one more.

Like in FF7, Cid was a playable character and Biggs and Wedge are part of Avalanche. In FF8, Biggs and Wedge are soldiers and Cid is the Headmaster of Balamb Garden. In FF6, Vicks and Wedge are at the very beginning, and I don't know where Cid is, but I think he is in there. Cid is in FF9, I think he is with Zidane at the beginning. FF4, Cid is the ship builder. Biggs and Wedge are optionial, but Cid is in just about Every FF. Does anyone remeber the other character (if there is)?

Err, chocobos and airships :P

Cid was in FF3 (NES) and think he's been every game since then... haven't played X yet so I can't say about that one.

FF3: Dunno.

FF4: Cid is a Ship Builder, as reported by sfx1999.

FF5: Dunno. I think he's a mage of some kind...

FF6: Cid was the researcher that took care of Celes after the world was torn apart. (The guy in the yellow raincoat.)

FF7: Cid is one of the main character.

FF8: The guy in charge of Seed.

FF9: Cid was the King of Lindblum. (as Darkness said.) He also built all the major airships the game deals with. (Same job as in FF4?)

FFX: Cid is the leader of the Albed, & what's-her-name's father.

Possible spoilers (FF3 and FF5):
Spoiler: show
In FF3 he's an airship guy, and in FF5 he's also a scientist guy, made machines to amplify the power of the crystals, and works with his son Mid for most of the game.  Built a ship that works without wind and makes your airship work when you get it.

I thought Mid was Cid's grandson in FF5

Was Wedge the other guy? My friend told me of 2 characters that are in almost every ff game.

Wedge and Biggs.  Biggs was renamed Vicks in the original US release of FF6, due to Lucas-related whining.

Also, FF8;  The SeeD you're promoted with, and later flies the Garden for you is Nida (Needa).  Another Star Wars reference

The remake MUST follow these rules. It is like... THE LAW.

... Wait a minute. YOU ARE MAKING A SEQUEL OR WHATEVER!!!! Shame on you.

There's a difference between a prequel, a sequel, a remake, and a side-story. Judging from what we've prepared, as far as story goes, I think we're going to be prequel/side-story.

It's not a sequel, so we are adhereing to the FF rules so far.

Well... there not supposed to be on the same world.

I'm not sure about that.  It seems like some of them are on the same world at different times.  I'm not quite sure (because I haven't played 2-6 much) but I get the impression that the "four crystals" plotline is used in more than one game.  Final Fantasy 8 is definitely not on the same world as ff6 or 5.  But I did find a clever little timeline of a single Final Fantasy world on the net that went from 1-7.  It seemed to fit together pretty well to.

I think I know who the other character is!

In FF6, he is Edgar. In FF7, he is Rufus. FF8, Seifer. Damn I'm good!

He always wears the same coat from what I have observered, except their in different colors.

Spell names must either be "Bolt1" "Bolt2" "Bolt3", etc...or "Thunder" "Thundaga" "Thundara", etc...
Moogles! For goodness sakes, people! MOOGLES!!!
The Summons/GFs/Eidolons/Whatever else
The Original classes (and thier offshoots)
Black Mage, White Mage, Red Mage, Fighter, Black Belt, and Thief
All of which become (in FF1):
Black Wizard, White Wizard, Red Wizard, Knight, Master, and Ninja

This theme is in all the games. Summoners are a big deal too, but weren't in the original. Another thing is Dragoons/Lancers
Really, to get knowledge of all the classes in the FF world, I suggest FFT or FF3j...
Let's not forget the recurring badguys...like CHAOS...

The bolt 1, 2 etc is a localisation thing. The real names are Thunder, Thundara, etc.

The Biggs and Wedge thing: yes, that was Square's nod to Lucasfilm (apparently the FF developers were Star Wars fans), and Vicks was due to copyright issues.

Yes, Cid has been in every game, as have Chcobos. Those are the only consistent characters... In FFX, Cid's the Al Bhed leader.

The summons, and battle system are all pretty consistent, more evoloutions than revoloutions.

On FF7 you forgot that it can be Cloud and Tifa, Cloud and Aeris, Cloud and Yuffie, or Cloud and Barret.

I never got the date with Barret.  Is it funny or just boring?

I dunno, but I got Tifa to deck the dragon. She also decked me.

I heard that the Yuffie date is the only one where someone makes a move on you.... I can't actualy back that up, as I could never be a$$ed to get her date.

She kisses you. The barret one is funny, but they don't let you into the play. He sits and you two talk guy-to-guy about the issues of the world. Not a real date, actually...
...Hehehe...use a save editor to get it. Barret's "date" has this -great- part where he asks who you would have taken out...

Does anyone have a save of right before the date?  I'm playing FF7 now, but I'm already where the weapon attacks the town with the giant gun, I forget the name right now.

I just had a look on GameFAQs.com.

Tifa's Date (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/save/final_fantasy_vii_tifa_date.GME)
Yuffie's Date (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/save/final_fantasy_vii_yuffie_date.GME)
Barret's Date (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/save/final_fantasy_vii_barret_date.GME)

I might try converting them to PSX versions, somehow, if they aren't already, and emulate them. I've only ever had Tifa and Aeris.
